My review is from a different angle. I voted early for the Ontario election. I have been voting…read moreearly since returning to the GTA from Winnipeg what feels like eons ago. The only exception was the time I was a Deputy Returning Office (DRO) for a past Ontario election and I worked my home poll. I cast my ballot at that poll. It was cool and valid. I decided to try something a bit different two Wednesdays ago. I normally drop by an advance poll. This time, I hit the returning office. For Markham-Thornhill, the returning office for this election is this Toshiba building. I had no problem finding it. If you are heading northbound on Birchmount Road, you hang a left McNabb Street, and follow the yellow vote signs to get to Toshiba on the left. There was plenty of parking. I backed into a spot and observed what felt like an oasis with flowers blooming and greenery everywhere. The entrance for employees is west of the main entrance. I followed the signs to the main entrance. The lobby has a lot of glass, including the ceiling. I thought that I was going into either a fancy greenhouse or an arboretum. I have worked in technology for years and none of the companies that I have been employed at had such a lovely setting as if you were in nature. I walked through the door and found a woman sitting behind a black desk that was reception. I said hi and said that I was here to vote. She had a black mask on, so she matched the entire reception area's motif. She looked stylish with a hint of mystery. She had a clipboard that was a sign-in sheet. An alphanumeric ID was already written on a new row, which was interesting. She asked that I print and sign my name on said row. So, I did. She then picked up the phone and called someone to say that I was here to vote. She hung up the phone and let me know that someone was going to lead me into the voting area. The lobby is extremely zen in look and feel. There were large rocks on sand. I was looking for a rake to use on the sand. This zen garden was under the staircase. A woman opened a door behind the staircase and said hi. I walked over. She was so nice. She led me to a room that was the voting area. I had my voting card, so she took it from me. You also need to present ID, so I gave her my driver's licence. She scanned it into her laptop. At first, it didn't work. She tried it again and it worked. Ah, technology! She handed me a ballot. She advised that the voting booth had a pencil and a list of candidates. Spoiler alert: The ballot is a bit different this year. There is an area on your ballot where you print the candidate's name that you want to vote for. In the voting booth, which is essentially half a cardboard box, there's a list of candidates and you simply print the name in the rectangular area of your ballot. I'm not sure whether misspelling a candidate's name on the ballot constitutes spoiling a ballot. Luckily, the person that I voted for was easy to spell, so my vote will count! An office cleaner came in and asked if it was okay to dispose of the garbage. I have missed saying hi to cleaning staff. I said that it was fine, which the woman across from me was perfectly fine with and agreed. I thanked him. Man, I do miss some aspects of working in an office. After I wrote who I wanted to vote for, I folded my ballet and headed to the box to place my ballot. The woman asked if I wanted my voting card. Otherwise, she was going to shred it. I was good with the latter option. I thanked her and headed out two sets of doors. There was elections training going on in one of the larger board rooms. It was all glass, so I could see the presentation up on a massive screen. Toshiba does make awesome screens. It reminded me of getting DRO training from years past, but in a smaller room without any cool screens. I thanked the woman at the reception desk. She wished me a good evening. I did the same and left. I had a great experience voting at this returning office. I'd do it again. It was straightforward with no lineup. I hope that more elections have a returning office here. I'd love to come back. Zen voting is perfect. Maybe I could get a job here and rake the zen garden. (178)

I was unable to see my image when using Skype on my Toshiba laptop, despite the blue camera lamp…read morebeing illuminated. I could see the person I was calling but all they or I could see was a black square with a revolving arrow. I had already paid $149 to Microsoft and Skype to diagnose the problem and they had taken remote control of my computer, uninstalled the software, updated the driver and thoroughly tested the software. After 2 hours they concluded the problem was hardware and that I should contact Toshiba. I did that, and explained EXACTLY what MS level 2 techs had accomplished. Toshiba insisted on doing the SAME things and then elevating the case to their level 2 techs for $29.95. For this they promised to DIAGNOSE the problem, but not necessarily fix it. I agreed. Level 2 wasted more time repeating the efforts of the others and concluded, it must be HARDWARE!!! They gave me 2 contact numbers which I called, only to find the 1st was not in service and the 2nd only dealt with commercial applications! In frustration I played with the computer MYSELF for another half hour and discovered that my Kasperski security system was blocking my camera in the name of "privacy" I switched the block OFF and all was resolved! So obviously Toshiba DID NOT DIAGNOSE the issue as promised and thus stole $29.95 from me. When challenged they cursorily dismissed my concern. Recommendation, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY on TOSHIBA support they are clearly incompetent. It was I, a dentist that fixed the problem.
