Was in the store about a month ago, saw 3 trays of a series that I liked, decided to think about them as they were kind of pricey. No one helped me, which was fine. I was recently in Orange County, and bought 2 of the trays being "clearanced out" at about 40% off (they did not have the 3rd). I learned they were discontinued in 2021, and later did a bit of research on line about them. I went into the store yesterday, and they still had the 3. A man offered help, I told him about Orange County, and asked if they were going to be marking them down. He replied, with what I perceived as arrogance in his voice, they were not; he added that they were selling well, and they still had stock on them (he mentioned the number 4, but it wasn't clear if it was 4 of each or a total of 4). He also said there had been a 4th tray in the series. Nowhere in any of my research did I ever see a 4th tray; there were always just the 3. Sales pressure? Misinformation? Then the salesman just turned around and left, mid conversation, back to his popcorn eating. I've rarely seen such rude behavior by a salesperson. I suppose he thought he wasn't going to make a sale, so why waste time with me. He wasn't going to make a sale with me today, and now never in the future. Still can't get over the rudeness of a salesperson. This just bears out the truth of a number of the reviews below which mention the same kind of behavior. Absolutely the worst attitude, they just opened and these guys are sharks! We bought over $100 worth of stuff and got home and noticed that one of the bowels was all scrapped up on the bottom and we went in to just exchange it. The man was beyond rude, he accused us of damaging the bowl and wasn't sure he wanted to take it back. They have a policy they will only exchange and not refund on debit. They argued with us in front of customers! I got very upset and stormed out and they could care less! The first time we were there they were very pushy. We had that bowl in the back of the car and we noticed the scrapes when we got home, he said everything is inspected and it would never happen. Good luck dealing with them!! read more

The upper crust has everything for the gourmet chef. I go there specifically for the sweet hot jalapeños from Tyler Texas. It's the only place I seem to be able to find these delicious,delectable, morsels. They go especially well over cream cheese and I use just about any type of cracker for dipping. Really cool store - part dining decor, part kitchen gadgets, and part specialty foods (both packaged and refrigerated perishables). Packaged foods included various Barefoot Contessa cookie and bread mixes, Paula Deen seasonings, and famous restaurants' package mix baiking recipes. There were also lots of sauces, marinades, and spreads. It was upscale, but less expensive than the Williams-Sonoma across the street. There is a nice selection of cookbooks, too! read more

Walked in to what looked like a mishmash and was told (shouted at) immediately that the store was closing in 3 minutes, not locking the doors and feel free to browse but basically get out. Run for your life! Rudest EVER! Horrible service and treatment. I can't recommend. Had to return an 11 dollar item. Exchanged it actually AND bought another. The little man behind the counter was rude and condescending. In fact he said "don't try to bring anything back". Then he launched into some story about some other customer he has trouble with. This is my first Yelp review EVER and maybe my last but just have to chime in on previous poor reviews. My wife and I had an extremely unpleasant experience with the owner(s?) of this store. Will not bore anyone with the details, but when the glassware we ordered was not what we expected, we were told that they were nonrefundable (something they conveniently neglected to tell us in the store when we ordered them). We are out of towners and come back every year for an event, so we walked into store today to clear the air and pick out alternative merchandise with our store credit but were rudely (and I mean RUDELY) told that they would not honor their offer from last year for store credit. Without a doubt the WORST shopping experience I've had in years. I'm giving them one star because I don't think zero stars is an option. read more

I'm reading the other reviews and laughing. I really like this store and make it my destination shop every time I go to Palm Desert. I've bought a lot of things there and love the selection and quality. They always have a new "hit" treat for the season that I just have to buy for myself and friends. Yes, the proprietors are a bit cranky but until you run a small business yourself, you have no idea what it's like day to day. This is NOT Nordstrom folks! You don't get to buy and return, buy and return, buy and return. I'm going to call them right now to place another order. Terrible service. My family and I walked in and before the door even closed, the owner was in our face asking if our children knew not to touch anything in the store (mind you, our children aren't that young anymore and have pretty good manners - not perfect kids but certainly not wild hooligans). He followed us around (as if he feared we were going to steal something). Made the experience extremely uncomfortable. About their selection of products, some were unique and interesting, but pricey. I would urge shoppers to consider a different store, like the Williams Sonoma across the street or other locations with better customer service, a better shopping experience, and more competitive pricing. These guys need to work on their personal skills with customers. The store itself is wonderful and has a wide selection of great merchandise. I've shopped there for 13 years and spent a lot of money outfitting our desert home with kitchen and entertaining items, in addition to buying many gifts for friends there. I was buying a few things for gifts that weren't that expensive and said they were gifts and would like a gift bag. I was told they could give me a bag but not tissue paper because i wasn't spending enough.....I hadn't finished buying items for the gifts and added a $25 item to each of the bags. The attitude immediately changed and they said they could upgrade to a bag with tissue!! Give me a break. First of all they don't even seem to remember me as a frequent customer and the tissue paper might have been worth 2 cents. Pay attention guys. It irritated me to the point that I don't want to give them my business. PS: Quit have that woman following people around the store. Across the street is a Williams and Sonoma. I love that store and the high quality of their products. There is a similar comparison to this store. But this has a more personable feel and unlike some of the other Yelpers who had a bad experience, I've always had a good one. More than that I found items that I couldn't find in a W&S or a Sur La Table. My only gripe is that they close the store a 5pm, just like 90% of the stores on Paseo. read more

I've been going there for the last three years and disagree with the prior reviews. I was in the store today and purchased their custom salad dressings. They are excellent. They also sell great spreads. They have a sesame ginger salad dressing and a horseradish spread that are great. Try them. Every time I've been here I've always been treated with respect and top of the line service. They have a mixed selection of quality food and various high end kitchen and dining accessories. We were thrilled with our purchases and extremely satisfied with the service we received on some items that had to be ordered. Everything was delivered in a timely manner on the exact date specified. In our book Upper Crust gets the highest marks for customer service. -- Such a fun store with beautiful and different gifts. Be sure to stop in when you're visiting the desert. What a fabulous store! This is a must-stop when shopping El Paseo. Lots and lots of great items you won't find anywhere else. And, for high-quality goods, their prices are excellent! Take a look at the German cooking and utensils line, Rosle, which are among the finest in the world. Don't leave without the Rosle corkscrew, which is amazing and saves your wrists and hands. OK, reading some of the other reviews, management may have had some bad experiences with kids. But for me and my wife, they've been perfect each time, answering every question and making valuable suggestions. We especially like that they don't lead you to the most expensive item, which is great. But don't miss the Rosle products - they are exceptional. read more

I wish that I could have stayed longer! My cousin brought her to poodle on the trip and he was tired so I had to stop looking. There was such a diverse line of products to see from cooking, baking, ,tabletop ,etc. and most of the things I needed were made in Europe or the US. This is a very personal plus plus for me. Upper Crust appears to have some nice merchandise, but the owner/proprietor is so rude, it is just not worth the effort to shop there. I went to this store with my kids. My son, age 16 was told kids aren't allowed to touch anything in the store. Really? I can understand if he was a toddler or younger and wasn't being careful, but the man/owner behind the counter was very rude in the way he spoke to a customer. The woman who works there had her eyes glued to us as if we were in to shoplift. They both are very creepy! I would not support a business that treats a customer this way...we did not feel welcomed the moment we stepped into the store. We left feeling offended/angry at how disrespectful the owners were. Then we went into William Sonoma across the street. Very friendly/helpful and inviting customer service with a "please touch, check it out" attitude.
