Brightleaf Square is a quaint retail development located in the center of the Brightleaf…read moreneighborhood in downtown Durham. I'd call it a "shopping center," but it's not like a typical suburban shopping center. The development consists of two repurposed brick warehouses, originally built in 1904, that used to store bright leaf tobacco (that's where the name comes from). So, Brightleaf Square looks and feels historic, and that's what makes it charming. That said, the development is kind of small and there's not that much here. If you want to walk across the street to, say, Rose's or Jeni's, then yes, the neighborhood (also known as the Brightleaf District) has more to offer. I highly recommend Rose's, by the way, for their ramen and ice cream sandwiches. Strictly speaking, within the square, Emmy Squared Pizza is terrific for their Detroit-style pizza. It's among the best deep-dish pizza anywhere, in my opinion. There's also Clouds Brewing, which is a craft brewery and restaurant. Other businesses are local/boutique shops, such as Bull City Art & Frame Company and Mill & Meadow Stationery Shop, and private offices. The brick/stone walkway, old-fashioned lamp posts, string lights, trees, benches, and early-1900s buildings can make for a fun, whimsical stroll with friends and family before or after lunch or dinner. It's also a good date spot, especially if you incorporate the larger neighborhood (e.g., pizza at Emmy Squared followed by ice cream sandwiches at Rose's). For parking, I suggest parking in the surface lot at the corner of W Main St and S Gregson St. You can enter the lot from either of those streets. Pay attention to signs as you may have to pay during certain days and times. Fun fact: Durham's infamous "Can Opener Bridge" is located on the south end of Brightleaf Square. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out the bridge's Wikipedia page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norfolk_Southern%E2%80%93Gregson_Street_Overpass Also, watch some of the videos on this YouTube channel to see the Can Opener in action: https://www.youtube.com/@11foot8plus8 The camera that captures those videos is mounted on one of the buildings at Brightleaf Square.

Brightleaf Square looks like it'd be cute and fun to walk around in, but that's really all it is…read more Pretty market lights and small shops but nothing actually to do..? Hopefully they add better restaurants and more variety of boutiques here because the square is not living up to its potential. Basically, I'd skip this and head over to ATC.

I had two options. I also was looking for some work sandals, and honestly, they didn't have too many options either. The racks are an absolute mess to try to sort through. Overall, for the price of the store and having to navigate through the mess, it's a pain. The grocery area is much better organized than any other area of the store.

After years of not visiting this Target in the South Square shopping center off 15-501, my wife…read morereturned with me (my first time at this location) and she was reminded of why she preferred other Target locations over this one. Simply put, this Target is more like a Walmart. Our preferred Target in the Chapel Hill-Durham area is the one in the Renaissance Village shopping center. It's nicer. Target previously referred to that location as the "Durham SE" location. It's now called the "Durham Renaissance Pkwy" location: https://www.yelp.com/biz/target-durham-3 During our ordinary Saturday visit around 3:15pm, there was a panhandler outside the entrance, it was crowded, the crowd was relatively rough (inside the store and outside in the parking lot), the self-checkout line was the longest I've seen at any Target - it was so long that people in line had to make space for other customers entering the aisles to shop, and this was one of the worst Target stores (perhaps the worst) I've seen in terms of cleanliness and condition. Target has standards and this one fell below the mark. While I was able to find almost everything I needed, my wife was not. She generally loves shopping at Target and found this store to be disorganized and out of stock of several items she was looking for (e.g., beauty products). Like many girls, she takes joy in shopping at Target, but not at this location. My wife did say one cool thing about this Target is there's a mini Ulta Beauty inside. However, like the rest of this Target, the mini Ulta was in disarray. For example, several of the samples/testers were missing and those that remained were used up, dirty, and/or in bad shape. Among the things I purchased were two boxes of La Roche-Posay face moisturizer. I noticed the boxes were kind of beat up and crushed, so I checked the bottles inside to make sure they were okay. I'm glad I checked because someone had swapped a different bottle of lotion into one of the boxes. The bottle inside didn't match the box. I regularly purchase La Roche-Posay from other stores, including the aforementioned Renaissance Pkwy Target, and I've never seen that happen before. It's disconcerting and indicative of the quality of this Target. To top things off, the Starbucks inside this Target is lackluster too. You can read my review for that Starbucks here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/starbucks-durham-22 You can consider it a companion piece to this review.

I will no longer purchase from either TJMaxx or any of their affiliate stores, because when I had to return a pair of pants, they charged me $11.99 to return by mail. That is unethical, especially since the product was damaged! Even if there's something wrong on their end, you still need to pay the $11.99. They're making us pay for their inconvenience. I tried to leave feedback using chat, and you can't type text. You can only choose from their bot choices, so I'm forced to leave my complaint here.

I first went to Amazon as ya do but alas, stupid Amazon dropped the ball, again, ugh! So I'm going to all these different places looking for luggage and I remembered good ole Marshalls! Now, truth be told, when I go into a Marshalls I have to be fofocused, cuz gurl they got all sorts of good deals. Anyway, I found a piece of luggage that would be perfect for my trip; but I noticed 2 things. One was a lil damage to one of its corners and the other was no price tag. So I went up to the front and a nice, young lady helped me. Her colleague went to research the price but couldn't find another one with the same brand name. So she said based on the size of another piece of luggage it would be $59. Not bad, not bad but what about that lil bit of damage, I asked, can we take off any for that? She said yes and promptly got her manager who was super helpful in giving me a lil extra discount and checking me out. Thank you to all the folks at the Durham Marshalls, yall are wonderful and made my up coming trip easier and even more stress free! Will definitely be back!
