My husband and I booked the Umauma Falls ATV experience while visiting the Hilo side, and it ended up being his favorite part of the entire trip. From the start, the experience feels a little more special than your typical ATV tour because you're riding through private farmland rather than a crowded trail system. You follow your guide across wide open pastures where you pass horses, cows, and even pigs, which adds such a fun, local feel to the ride. The terrain changes throughout, moving from grassy stretches to rocky sections and muddy patches, so it never feels repetitive or boring. One thing we really appreciated was that the guide adjusted the pace to match the group. If you want to take it slow and steady, you can. If you're feeling more adventurous, they'll pick up the speed. It made the experience feel personalized rather than rigid. Toward the end, there's a short hike down to a beautiful waterfall area that feels tucked away and peaceful. Unfortunately, we had a lot of rain during our visit, so the falls were running strong and it wasn't safe to swim. While that was a bit of a bummer, it was still impressive to see the power of the water and didn't take away from the overall experience. If you're looking for something active and scenic on the Hilo side, this is absolutely worth adding to your itinerary. My husband and I went zip-lining here the other day and had an amazing experience from start to finish! The staff who welcomed us and checked us in were kind and the process was quick. There is parking on site and also restrooms available. They also offer some quick food to purchase like hot dogs and sandwiches which was nice cause there isn't much to eat close by. Unfortunately I don't remember our tour guides names, but they made the experience even better! They were all super nice and made us feel comfortable. I felt safe the entire time being in their hands. If you're looking for something to do in the Hilo area I definitely recommend coming to the Umauma Experience! Will definitely come back and maybe try another activity that they have to offer! read more

We had a great time. This was the best zip lining we've ever done & we have gone all over the world. The scenery is great. The lines are so fun. Going over the waterfalls was pure magic. The staff is professional yet friendly. You feel safe & secure. The suspension bridge was an added bonus. My only request would be to have smaller groups. We were in a group of almost 20. Having guys stationed at every line would make it a lot smoother rather than going in The group of 20 at a time. Otherwise it was beyond what we expected. We absolutely LOVED the zipline at the Umauma Experience! We would do it again in a heartbeat! It was the perfect mix of double rides and single rides and then even three on a row which was so fun! An exhilarating experience that tops off everything else we've done. Together with the adrenaline rush of driving over the rugged terrain and not knowing exactly how we're going to land all tires made me feel like a stuntman as our guide closely stayed by. You can dictate your level of excitement. We wanted high active experience and we received that and more. So awesome even the mud that pasted on my teeth from uncontrolled smiling tasted great! Awesome times zip lining. I'm someone that gets nervous of heights and of trusting zip line structures. The guides made me feel very safe and there are also very strict zip lining regulations that they abide by. That gave me a lot of confidence and trust. Overall super fun time!! what a fun adventure. They take care of everything and make it super convenient. Transportation to all of the zip lines made it super easy. Staff was fun. Gift shop and café is fully stocked so all you really need to bring is your sense of adventure and some sunscreen and some bug spray. We are already planning our return visit next year when we come back. I recommend going early in the morning to avoid the heat. from Waikoloa Village it's about an hour and a half drive and the view along the way is truly breathtaking. All of the locals recommend this spot for zip lining and I can see why. read more

What a great experience. This was our first time ziplining today and everyone there were great and make this experience so easy and very smoothly. It was a blast. The views were amazing at each of the stops. We did a total of 9 lines. We liked the zipline #4 the most, the longest with a great view. First we took a guide van to the 1st zip line then we ended at the entrance with the last zipline #9. A wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend and would do it again. read more

Please avoid visiting this place! I usually refrain from sharing negative reviews because I don't want to impact someone's livelihood or deter others from a potentially positive experience. However, I feel compelled to warn visitors to the Hilo area against supporting this establishment. Our family travels all over the world, we are respectful of different cultures and people, this was not related to a cultural issue. Following a recommendation from #shakaguide, we decided to visit @theumaumaexperience on our drive to Hilo. Our boys were excited, so we parked, and I went into the store to buy tickets while my husband stayed in the car with them. After waiting for 5-10 minutes behind another group, I reached the counter. The woman at the register apologized for the wait and thanked me for my patience. Suddenly, another woman appeared, waving clipboards with signed waivers and demanding to know where they came from. I told her I didn't know and was just trying to pay. She repeated her question, and I reiterated that the waivers weren't mine. She then came around the counter, waving the clipboards in my face, and accusingly asked, "So, you're telling me these just appeared out of nowhere?!" I was shocked by her aggressive and inconsiderate behavior. First, she wasn't listening to me or the woman at the register, who confirmed the waivers weren't mine. Second, her hostility was unwarranted, I hadn't said a thing to anyone and was just trying to pay for tickets. Third, why would I opt to pay a second time if the waivers were mine (visitors received the waivers after paying)? I calmly explained again that I didn't know where the clipboards came from and just wanted to buy tickets for my family. She then questioned whether I had left my kids alone in the car. I assured her they were fine, but she continued to berate me about my supposed poor parenting and stupidity. I told her, "Ma'am, I'm a good mother. My kids are with their father. They are fine. You've called me stupid, accused me of being a bad mother, and I've done nothing to you. You should probably leave me alone or apologize." Instead, she questioned whether the A/C was on for the kids in the car. In all my travels, I've never encountered such unwarranted meanness. I left shaking, and by the time I processed everything, I was in tears and couldn't fill out the waivers. I realize that working in customer can be extremely difficult, I've done it. I realize how difficult it can be to live in a high tourist area, I've done that also. But nothing excuses the way I was treated at this place. We left, and didn't even stop in Hilo because I wanted no part of it. If you're still reading, I would appreciate it if even one person chose not to support this place. Message for the business: I did not get the name of the woman behind at the register, but she was wonderful. I was there on July 18, 2024, around 2 PM. She was incredibly kind and apologetic and should be commended for handling such ugly behavior with grace. She seemed stressed, likely because the woman who yelled at me had been harassing her all day. read more

The property is amazing. the views are amazing. the zipline staff though knowledgeable seemed very focused on finishing early. We were actually told to hurry up while trying to take pictures. we didn't see any smiles until they asked for a tip. I would have left a much larger tip had they been a little friendlier. They didn't offer to help take pictures. There was no information given about the area. these guys need to realize they could make a much better living if they put a little more effort into their job. read more

My family and I booked a zip lining experience, and while it started off a bit rocky, it turned into an unforgettable day thanks to the amazing staff. My wife and older son completed the first zip line, but when it was my turn with my younger son, he got too scared and refused to go. The staff was incredibly patient and understanding--they even offered to ride with him, but he was still too nervous. Unfortunately, I couldn't leave him alone, and understandably, the staff wouldn't allow a child to wait by himself without an adult. My wife had already gone ahead and didn't have her phone, so I figured that was it for me--I'd just have to sit out and wait for an hour while the rest of my family had all the fun. But then, the manager stepped in and truly saved the day. Since my younger son and I didn't get to zip line or try the ATV ride, they kindly offered us a refund or the chance to do the ATV experience instead. We chose the latter, and we had an absolute blast together! I can't thank the team enough for their kindness, flexibility, and exceptional customer service. What could have been a disappointing experience turned into a really special memory with my son. Highly recommend! read more

I was so nervous going in since it had been almost 6 years since my last one, where they made me brake myself Our guides, Wes, Skippy, and another gentleman (shorter, heavyset - sorry, I don't remember his name) were so funny and sweet. Their confidence and humor assuaged my fears. They encouraged me to go upside down, which I eventually did! The only bummer was that the 4th line (apparently the best line) was down for maintenance, so we skipped that one. Guess we'll have to come back again! read more
