It's a legitimate riding experience on well behaved horses, not a little lead along- independent and fun riding! All the staff are wonderfully pleasant and experienced! I gotta say, the experience lived up to the hype. I'm already wanting to plan another trip to go again! First off, the area is absolutely stunning. Ocean views from the mountain with cows, pigs, and other amazing wildlife all around. On the day we went, we had clear views of Haleakala on Maui. The most beautiful experience ever. Period. The time that you sign up for is the check-in time. We signed up for their afternoon ride, so we arrived at 1pm. That time has check-in and getting ready time built in (vs. having to show up 30 mins before). You do have to sign an online waiver ahead of time and then they also have a waiver that you sign on-site. I actually opted to not wear a helmet and was able to do that after checking a certain box on the waiver. The cool thing about this spot is that they have cowboy boots of all sizes that you can borrow for your ride. I obviously came with my own boots, but my boyfriend was able to find a pair in his size. In their check-in area they also have a bathroom and water for purchase or a refill station. The staff are so knowledgeable of the area and safety plus overall just so charismatic --making the ride and overall experience so much fun.

Great experience, definitely recommended!…read more EDIT: I forgot to add that they rescue a lot of their horses. They make sure they are rider ready for sure, but this fact alone was worth a lot to me. The fact the experience was awesome regardless was icing on the cake. We booked a jungle ride for 2 at the last minute (a couple of days before) after another local place cancelled our online booking on us. I am so glad that happened, because we had a great time. The owner and her assistant guide were able to accommodate us on a Sunday for a private ride for the two of us. We were perfectly matched based on my more experience with riding, and my husband's very beginner ability. They each talked to us about the surrounding farms we were riding through, and the different plants, trees, animals, etc. around us, and their origins. They were very knowledgeable about all of this, as well as riding. We were even able to pick some fruit from one of the farm's trees (with permission from the farmer of course!) Our guide took a bunch of photos of us as we went (wasn't obtrusive though), and texted them to me right after our ride, ready for facebook upload :-) I always try to unsuccessfully take photos while riding so this was a treat. At the end, the owner's daughter had brought some juice out for us, My husband really doesn't like horseback riding, but he said he loved our ride here and it was one of the highlights of the trip. The owner told me they just bought some additional land that they are hoping to develop into a destination they can ride to and then do luaus with food, entertainment, and drinks, which I thought was such a cool idea! She was hoping to have this done in around a year, so I would definitely be back to check it out.

Was booked for an hour and half ride but we went longer just because they had free time after. The horses were extremely well behaved and easy to ride * especially for a non rider like me!* Would highly recommend for a beginner or advanced. Great ride.

I had Bailey as my horse & she was my first ever horse to ride, she made it very easy going. My siblings and I really loved this experience and Jaime was a perfect guide. He provided a lot of history & knowledge of the aina, it was nice to get someone local to take care of us. It so worth the time & price, considering that we got to go down to a secluded river that falls from Mauna Kea (it was cold but refreshing) in the middle of the tour. Tip your guides if you happen to go and take pictures!! Mahalo Wailea Horseback Adventure!

After doing a lot of research I found Wailea Horseback Adventures and decided to give it a go. It sounded great with the horseback to the waterfall. The place wasn't terribly difficult to find. Apple Maps took us right there. They had nice bathrooms if you needed to change or anything. They are co-located with the zip lining activities if you want to do both while you're there. What sounded great to me was riding to the waterfalls. The horse riding seemed incredibly minimal. Very short right to the falls. Then some treacherous stairs down to the falls. You get 45 minutes to swim, sit, do whatever at the waterfall. Then you ride a very short ride back. They nonstop and take photos for everyone which I thought was a nice touch. I felt like too much time was wasted on talking about how to ride horses and use neck reigns than actual riding. Then obviously the waterfall time. I would've liked to do more riding and see more.

From the start, the experience feels a little more special than your typical ATV tour because you're riding through private farmland rather than a crowded trail system. You follow your guide across wide open pastures where you pass horses, cows, and even pigs, which adds such a fun, local feel to the ride. The terrain changes throughout, moving from grassy stretches to rocky sections and muddy patches, so it never feels repetitive or boring. One thing we really appreciated was that the guide adjusted the pace to match the group. If you want to take it slow and steady, you can. If you're feeling more adventurous, they'll pick up the speed. It made the experience feel personalized rather than rigid. Toward the end, there's a short hike down to a beautiful waterfall area that feels tucked away and peaceful. Unfortunately, we had a lot of rain during our visit, so the falls were running strong and it wasn't safe to swim. While that was a bit of a bummer, it was still impressive to see the power of the water and didn't take away from the overall experience. If you're looking for something active and scenic on the Hilo side, this is absolutely worth adding to your itinerary. It's a great mix of adventure, views, and a little glimpse into local farmland life, and clearly a highlight of our trip.

I felt safe the entire time being in their hands. If you're looking for something to do in the Hilo area I definitely recommend coming to the Umauma Experience! Will definitely come back and maybe try another activity that they have to offer!
