The salon is about 2 blocks south from Lincoln Ave. A nice break from the main drags of Napa Valley. Carmen is the hairdresser & owner. The salon isn't very large but for personal service & attention to detail this is the place! So many salons are large, noisy, and filled with attitude. To be the only customer, with the proprietor, one gets the concept of personal attention. I have very long, thick, wavy hair. It took about 1 hour to wash, blow dry & then straighten it. I was grateful she didn't rush it, so many hairdressers do. The end result was amazing! My younger nieces in kept complimenting me & my husband loved the look!

She said that there simply wouldn't be enough time, as the artists & stylists were also assisting her mother, aunts, grandmothers, etc. Stephanie however gave me a great piece of advice "You will only be a MOG (Mother of the Groom) once, so you won't regret it if you hire someone to look your best!" I began searching Yelp for the St Helena area, and after reading the positive reviews of Victoria Wallet, I sent her an email. She responded immediately and suggested that I set up an appointment for a trial session. Unfortunately, I simply did not have the time to do this as I was leaving to attend my nephews wedding in Tuscany, and then hosting relatives from all over the world coming for my son's wedding. We emailed back & forth about the price, date & time of the wedding, location of my hotel etc. I also emailed her photos of myself. We then set up a date & time for us to chat on the phone. She asked what hairstyle I wanted, and I said, " I want an up do chignon that is classy, but I have baby fine hair." Victoria told me to go on Amazon and purchase "ponytail hair extensions". I was so pleased because the hair extensions were the same color as my hair! The day of the event, I was nervous in my hotel room. But Victoria was on time and quickly put me at ease. She assessed the lighting in my hotel room, laid her tools out on the bed and table and set to work! Victoria has incredible talent and an awesome personality. The hair extensions looked so natural - see the photos I posted! Also, I've never had airbrushing before and I really like how it covered and smoothed out my skin without feeling like the makeup was caked on giving a flawless, natural-looking appearance! I also wore false eyelashes for the first time and they looked fabulous! I loved my hair and it stayed up all night. My makeup held up the entire night with the heat and dancing. I was worried at first since many reviews complained about the noise from the bar next door. Yes, you can hear the music but if you have the tv on, you can barely hear it. The music ends around 1030pm. The rooms were clean and the beds very comfortable. Each room has a mini fridge, hair dryer and extra linens. The breakfast breads, fruit and coffee were a lovely way to start our day. The staff are amazing! From the front desk to housekeeping to the spa therapists, they were friendly, professional and made us feel welcome. We got massages, a Brazilian sugar scrub and a private sound bath and each service was incredible. Shout out to Dylan and Kelssea! The 24 hour geothermal hot tub and heated pool were heaven in the winter. We liked that the outdoor space was set back from the hotel so none of the noise carried into the rooms. There's lots of lounge chairs and a bar that I think is only open during the summer. Other guests said you could watch the summer outdoor movies at the bar next door from the pool! Street parking was easy and safe, and you can walk to restaurants, boutique shops and other resorts. Not having to drive anywhere once we arrived was a huge plus. And there's a grocery store on the same block. My only concern during our stay was the step up to the shower which was also tiled. There aren't any grab bars which made me nervous. There are ADA rooms so definitely book those if a step-up shower is a concern. Overall, I am obsessed with this hotel and can't wait to come back.

The hotel is over 100 years old and it's maturity is part of its charm. There was some work being performed in a guestroom on the 2nd floor but they worked on it for short periods every day. Love the strategy. There is no insulation on guestroom doors so it's easy to hear conversations and heavy slamming doors. There is no elevator so the 2nd floor doesn't appear to be Accessible. There are rooms on the 1st level however. The jacuzzi was wonderful and hot Tuesday morning but lukewarm on Thursday morning. Front desk staff state every now and then a guest inadvertently turns it off, and did so Wednesday night by pressing the Emergency button (instead of the timer for the jets). Bummer. It took hours for it to reheat. Maybe a sign for the jets could discourage that from happening again. Check In & Staff: Male staff were friendly and helpful - especially Manny!! The hotel does have a luggage cart but it won't help those staying on the 2nd floor since there is no elevator. However 2 of the guys volunteered to follow me outside to the car to retrieve my luggage. Soooo much appreciated! They not only carried them upstairs to my room but came back to carry them again when I relocated to a different room. They wouldn't even except a tip! Thanks guys! My heros. Other staff: The female staff at the front desk wasn't as friendly but maybe she had an off couple days. No eye contact, acknowledgement, or smile. She did engage however when spoken to. All other staff - housekeeping (especially), maintenance, painters, etc., were genuinely friendly and helpful. It made my stay relaxing which was much needed! Thanks again. Breakfast: Staff prepare a daily breakfast tray that's delivered to each room at your preferred time. Breakfast consisted of FRESH and DELICIOUS breads, lemon cake, a tangerine, and a warm pot of mild-blend coffee. Room: Towels were fluffy, soft, good-smelling, and appeared new! The linen and robes were fresh and clean. The room was well furnished and the environment inviting. The bed was on the firm side but was very comfortable. I had to remember not to sit on the edge too long though because the ribbing on the edge of the mattress hurt. There was no bottled water in the room but there was a carafe to be filled with ice/water at the Hydration Station located on the 1st floor. It would have been nice to have a Station upstairs too or bottles of water for upstairs guests. Having a mini fridge and safe in the room was a nice touch. A microwave somewhere for guests (use) would have been nice for reheating leftovers. Window screens would have been nice to enjoy fresh air in the room without bugs. Bathtub stopper should probably be replaced because it was old, discolored, and soiled. Bathroom walls could use a little touch-up paint but none of those issues were big deal breakers for me. The things that could have definitely been better in the room were the loud bathroom fan (and the inability to turn it off independently from the light switch) and the hum from the mini fridge. The fridge clicks on/off 24/7, and at night when its quiet the hum is annoying. Glad I brought adapters for electronics since there are standard electrical outlets only, and no place to plug in USB cords. Check Out: Payment for your room is deducted from your credit card at the beginning of your stay when you check in. To check out you can drop your room keys in the box at the front desk. I chose to wait (10 minutes) for staff to return to the desk for a receipt. Value: I didn't visit the hotel spa this visit. However even with the Spring Special the hotel seems a bit overpriced, and without the spa is probably closer to a 3-star hotel. Caveat though is that everything in Calistoga appears to be overpriced - after all it's a resort town. Love the peace and tranquility though. Overall a really nice stay and I definitely recommend.
