The Village Fit Gym

My friend lives in an apartment in the village and she has access to this gym, so while I was…read morestaying with her, we decided to come and work out together. The area where the gym is located is extremely nice, the commons where all of the shared village grounds are (including restaurants and coffee shops, along with this gym) is extremely upscale. My friend told me that in the past, it cost five dollars to bring a guest to this gym, but when we came on a Sunday morning, they told us it was actually $20. We went ahead and went for it since it was just one day, but in the future, just be aware of that. The gym itself is very nice, the facilities are very clean, especially in the locker rooms, and there was a plethora of equipment. Walking in there is a check in desk, and just to the left there is a big staircase next to the indoor space housing a basketball court. If you go up the stairs, there are a lot of machines up there along with free weight /free space areas with kettle bells and yoga mats etc. There's also a small outdoor area with some machines, including a battle rope and a few others. If instead of going up those stairs on entering you keep going towards the back, the locker rooms will be on your right, and there's some additional equipment under the staircase adjacent to the basketball court. Around the corner, there is also a lot more freeway equipment, including a Smith machine (my personal favorite) and free bars for squatting/benching as well as Dumbbells and things of that nature. I noticed also an outdoor area with like maybe a parkour area? I wasn't sure exactly what it was but looked like a grown up jungle gym. And just behind that, there was a large (and busy!) tennis court. On the other side of the gym itself, there were also some large fields that looked like maybe they're for soccer or some other field sport? I didn't see any soccer goals though. There's also a pretty long sidewalk surrounding area that would be nice to walk around, but just be mindful it's not a very shaded area and in the summer in Texas it's pretty hot so I would be careful about that. If you're living in the village, the location of the gym is really great because it's so close by. My friend and I were running late so we actually did drive (took 1-2 min from her apt) and parked in the parking garage underneath the village area; on the Sunday morning that we came it was just free to park there and we didn't even have to take a ticket, the bars were just up when we came in when we left. However, I imagine that if it wasn't a weekend, you may have to get a ticket and pay or validate. Last thing to note: even though it was a Sunday morning, there was a pretty decent number of people in that gym. I never had to wait for anyone to use any equipment or any machines, but I did see some people talking to each other about that. My friend told me that it was basically "empty as far as she was concerned," compared to how it is during the week when apparently it's much busier and you do sometimes have to wait for equipment. Overall, this place is really nice, and given im thinking about possibly moving to Dallas in a few years i am quite strongly considering this area because of how nice it is, and because of the presence of this gym! I wish they hadn't increased the price for guests (or had a fee at all), but for those living here and just using the facilities complementarily, this is a really nice place.

I took their hot yoga class, which was both refreshing and energizing. The instructor was incredibly kind and hands-on with her guidance, making the class enjoyable for all levels. The facility itself has so much to offer! It really feels like a one-stop shop for fitness and wellness. There's a small cafe on-site, which is perfect for grabbing something before or after a workout. They also have multiple pickleball courts, which adds a fun, social element to the experience. My favorite part was definitely the recovery area. They offer cryotherapy, infrared light therapy, compression, and massage chairs. I personally tried the compression therapy and was very satisfied with how it made me feel afterward. Overall, this is an amazing space if you're looking to combine workouts, recovery, and convenience all in one place!

Wait!!! I've never written a review? That can't be right. I literally created their Yelp page while…read moresitting in those massage chairs in the Recovery area, I wanted the community to know this place had opened. They're such a great addition to the neighborhood. I remember when this location was just a dream back in the LA Fitness days, but I never imagined it would turn out this fancy. And yes, if you're a member here, you can use any LA Fitness location, but not the other way around. Perks! I was genuinely mind-blown by how beautiful this place is. They did an incredible job. An indoor pickleball court? Yes, please. Who wants to play outside in the Texas heat? Of course, they have outdoor courts too, the place is massive. No need for lockers, they've figured out a smarter system for us. The classes are a blast, and trust me, you'll feel the burn the next day. The changing rooms are super spacious, my fave thing is the Dyson hairdryers, no, it's the huge sauna, no it's the showers, no, its the shower heads. Oh, I just love it all :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) They even have a towel wall right next to the changing rooms, which is super convenient. Just don't try to take one home, you'll beep on your way out. Yep, they've got anti-theft tags in the towels. Clever. Everyone here is friendly and helpful. The Recovery Studio is also amazing. I've done cryo multiple times and loved it, it's so good for you. The infrared rooms are cool too. And those air compression boots? They're called Normatec. They help with circulation, and one of the staff recommended using them before and after workouts. Genius. Honestly, I could spend 3-4 hours here easily and just live my best life. They always have specials going on. I just got one for Labor Day, but I'll be away and sadly won't be able to take advantage. If you live nearby, definitely sign up. I can't recommend this place enough. It's a stunning setup with a totally reasonable membership. You might think I'm exaggerating, but let me break it down: I used to go to Glo Sun Spa before they closed their Addison location--$150/month, and cryo was always extra. So it could come out to around $200. Then my silly LA Fitness was another $40, plus their maintenance fee, (which is nonexistent here) and I had to drive between locations. So Club Studio, everything included $250/month totally makes sense. Everything's in one place. It's bougie, gorgeous, and probably the best gym I've ever been to. Nothing's broken, everything works, and like I said, you get access to any LA Fitness location too. Total win. So... will I see you there?

Disappointed with my experience …read more There were no trash cans in the women's restrooms, and there were at least 2 clogged toilets. I informed the front desk as I was leaving. The wipes are also so incredibly thin, doesn't feel like you're cleaning anything. Everything is kinda just strewn around in the women's only section. I was recently…read moretold I could not enter wearing slides, despite the fact that I regularly come in wearing them because I remove my shoes while lifting heavy. I've also noticed many other members lifting barefoot or taking their shoes off entirely without being approached or corrected. What makes this frustrating is that there are no visible signs or posted policies stating "no slides" or "no Crocs." The only posted rules I've seen are things like reracking weights and not removing shirts. Because of that, it feels unfair and inconsistent when certain members are singled out while others are not. Additionally, the interaction itself was unprofessional. I was told, "I'm going to get fired if you walk in," (white girl) by a front desk employee I had never seen before, after I had already driven all the way to the gym. The situation could have been handled much more respectfully and clearly. I also want to mention that I frequently feel pressured by trainers approaching me repeatedly about personal training, even after showing no interest. I've noticed this tends to happen more when I wear baggier clothing or don't fit the typical "gym aesthetic," which makes the environment feel uncomfortable rather than welcoming. I'm not trying to cause issues, but I would appreciate clearer policies and more consistent treatment from staff across the board.

One of the first things that drew me in was the convenience--it's only about a 7-minute drive from my house, which makes it so easy to stay consistent. I signed up for a membership over Winter Break and chose the Platinum membership so I could have full access. One of the best perks is the buddy pass, which can be used every day you attend the gym. It made total sense for me to get this option so my husband could be my workout buddy. We went together on Saturday and were both impressed with how clean the gym was and how easy it was to find cleaning supplies throughout the space. The front desk staff deserve a shout-out--they are always friendly and greet me every time I walk in, which makes a big difference. What truly keeps me coming back, though, is Scott's workout classes. From my very first class, he welcomed me, explained how the class works, and clearly shared his expectations. His words--"If it gets hard, just keep moving"--really stuck with me. For the first time in a long time, I felt like I could actually do it. I've attended his classes on Tuesday and Thursday this week and already plan to be back again on Saturday. If you're looking for a clean gym, friendly staff, and motivating group classes that make you feel supported no matter your fitness level, this place is definitely worth checking out!

REVIEW OF RONIN FITNESS OF RICHARDSON…read more If you're committed to working hard to improve your health, strength, and endurance, Lex Ronin, Ronin Fitness of Richardson, is your trainer! I've been training with Lex Ronin since July/August of 2019 and couldn't be happier with the results achieved. Lex continues to be great to work with, even going virtual during the COVID-19 pandemic shut down of 2020, mixing routines up to stay fresh and interesting while having the maximum benefit toward my fitness goals. I began as a 67-year-old in reasonably good health who, in the previous year, had lost 60 lbs. and needed to firm up. I also wanted to build up (not bulk up) my upper body strength. I would highly recommend Lex. Meet with him. Discuss your goals and his methods. Take a trial workout session. Then make your decision. You won't be disappointed. This is the longest I've continued in ANY formal exercise/training program and plan to continue for the foreseeable future. Mark Lewis 8/21/2024
