I visited the Torrance for Christmas lunch with workmates in December 2014, so this review isn't typical of a normal visit, in menu, or that I did not stay as a hotel guest.
But that's not to say the experience isn't useful!
I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and the service at the Torrance. My experience of East Kilbride venues has been somewhat disappointing over the years so I didn't expect much, so was super-pleased when my low expectations were smashed!
On arrival we gathered in the hotel bar. It's well appointed, and had ample serving staff. There are tables of mixed size and the actual bar is large. There are wall-mounted TVs showing sport. At £5.60 for a bottle of Williams Joker IPA, and over £5 for a large orange juice and lemonade, the bar prices are ridiculously high for an East Kilbride bar... this isn't Gleneagles guys! (minus one star)
We then moved to a function room for lunch. My brie in filo with cranberry was generous, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. A really well executed starter. Turkey main was average, with the meat being from a turkey roll thing rather than a freshly roasted bird, potatoes overdone, one tiny pig-in-blanket and mixed veg. Dessert was warm sticky-toffee pudding with ice cream. Big generous portion of a cube of sponge surrounded by a sea of warm toffee sauce (on a warmed plate too, yay!). Delicious.
Other main dishes on the Christmas menu were Cod (very good I'm told) and the vegetarian option was mushroom stroganoff.
Service throughout was fast, friendly and professional, the staff are a real credit to the Torrance.
So in summary, the food and service was pretty good, but the eye-watering bar prices would discourage me from visiting again in a hurry. read more
