Stayed 3 nights in the Crown Plaza. Pillows were too hard however beds were very comfy. ordered a baileys coffee which was the highlight of our trip as it came out in an expresso cup. they made me a new one and it came out in a mug. We are Irish and if you are Irish you appreciate where I'm coming from. A baileys or Irish coffee is presented in a tall glass. We met Callum from Derry, he was super friendly, nice and made me a super Baileys coffee on night 2 - thank you Callum. In fact all the bar staff are lovely, they look after their customs well - Ivan and he can spell another gentleman All the staff @ Crown Plaza are lovely especially the reception staff, they go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. It's a super location, 2 stops on the train to the city with the train station 2 minute walk away. read more

Stayed here for just one night in late March Negatives: - Small-ish rooms, but not horribly cramped - Two small beds on wheels, making getting into them more entertaining than normal - Not located right near city centre - Definitely clean, but felt a bit old and worn Positives: - Above-average evening roast buffet, with a variety of meat and vegetarian options! Even some fish, which my dining companion appreciated - Very friendly service at the hotel and its restaurant - This is a big one: When my travel companion asked for non-down sheets due to an allergy, they verbally complied. The Crowne Plaza. I have not seen this place in around 5 years. I love the make over, apparently that was done last year. It has an elegant look. I don't think you get much cleaner a hotel in Glasgow of what I am seeing. This Hotel is right in the heart of the SECC. In almost un acronym terms that means, and location, it's right beside he SECC. The Conference centre, SSE Hydro, the Armadillo, the BBC building right across the food bridge, along with the science centre. You're far better laying your head here than any hotel in town. Not only is it a very safe location to walk around, but it's right next to the Clyde. The hotel also boast many elegant meeting rooms, along with banquet rooms to cater large numbers. Great venue for your wedding dinner. "Buffet" Although I have not seen the restaurant food for a long time, it can be noted that there is always a large selection of both, salads, dinner, and desserts on display. So Buffet is always a hit as it's all you can eat :) I have not seen the recent Ala carte, Bar, or Room service menu, but I remember there was always lots of great choice to cater for all. Yes I've been here a few times. No I've never stayed. I came here years ago, probably when it wasn't long opened, for a wedding reception. My friend had her full wedding here and was really pleased. The reception was good although we did destroy the flower table displays and chuck the cucumber out the sandwiches to see if they'd stick to the ceiling. So eh...yeah we had a few drinks then. I was young and er... I have no more excuses. Btw yes the cucumbers did stick. I've also been just for drinks, if you want posh this is where to go. When I was at the beeb across the way, I remember popping in now and then for drinks. So lately I've been a couple of times for drinks but the toilets were excellent spaces for er.. helping a friend with her new underwear collection. Em...ok this isn't sounding right. Well my friend makes her own underwear, (Amuse Bouche - bridal & burlesque), and she asked if I could do a little modelling for her. So the Crowne Plaza was the ideal meeting ground for me and other models to try on for her to know if any adjustments were needed. I know a little strange but it was a nice choice of bar to go to chill out by the River Clyde. The bar is a cross between the inside of a cruise ship and also the outside of the ship, that'll be the metal funnels. It's just round the corner from the SECC and a 10min walk from the Exhibtion Centre Train Station, it's worth dropping in for a wee drink. read more

It may have been a brief experience, but I absolutely loved our quick drink and snack at Crowne Plaza the other day. It was a wonderfully odd venue, and I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was I liked, but for such a huge, chain hotel, the bar and lobby area certainly had character. It felt like a cross between the hotel bar in "The Shining" and a cruise ship, this perhaps furthered by it's proximity to the water. It was unique, something I value quite highly, and the service we had on our brief visit was pretty good as well. Despite the fact it probably wasn't built then, I had flashbacks in here of my infant visit to the 1988 Garden Festival, which only added to the odd yet satisfying vibe I got from the place. It's a well appointed hotel all round, and one of the many places worth visiting in this part of town which despite BBC buildings, the SECC and Science Centre, can still strangely feel a bit barren. read more

I stayed one night at the Crowne Plaza recently, and only came here because all the hotels in the town centre were full. My first thought was that the views were really lovely (particularly in comparison to the Glasgow Hilton!) - there are benefits from being out of town when you're on a business trip. Like really being able to switch off. Like pretty views. However, that's where my positive vibe ended... The heating in my room was terrible - I just couldn't get it to work, and given the time that I checked in, I really didn't fancy calling anyone to fix it. Luckily, I was given a twin bedroom, so I slept under two duvets! I also had breakfast the next day, which really was just an average breakfast - nothing particularly memorable about it. It was also very busy, so it took a long time to get a cup of tea. All in all, Crowne Plaza is a perfectly adequate hotel; it's just not amazing. read more

The views from the upper floors facing the city are very nice and they get lots of sunshine - even better than the view from the elevator windows. The customer service was top notch as well. I tried a few beers and both Indian dishes in the bar/restaurant area - both solid 'B' meals. I would probably order then again. The buffet breakfast was very nice and I think there was something for everyone - quite a nice selection. A quick and easy walk through their pedestrian tunnel to the Tesco grocery store on Argyle Street if needed - super convenient. You can easily walk down Argyle Street also and have your pick of many restaurants and bars. A handful within 5-minutes walk get good reviews here on Yelp too. We tried a table at one of them called Lebowski's - the closest one - but alas, it was Saturday night and they were fully booked. It looked like a nice place too and the bartender was genuinely helpful in trying to find us another alternative nearby. read more

I stayed overnight on Saturday 3rd May for my friend's wedding. We were helpfully allowed to check in early and get up to our room and chill out before the day's activities began. The room was spotless and the view across the Clyde and up to the city centre was fabulous. The towels, were fresh, chocolates on the pillow, tea, coffee etc., all standard but laid out nicely all the same. The wedding drinks reception (the actual marriage ceremony took place in Florida!) was held in the conservatory and pictures were taken out in the small garden. Staff were very helpful in serving champagne and keeping guests happy. We sat down for a really nice meal too. The starter was filo pastry wrapped around haggis, neeps and tatties, and was probably my highlight of the meal. Although, the chicken main course with summer spring veg and the lemon tart dessert was also of a high standard. And on to the evening party, which was great. Not really much to do with the hotel at this point, except my only real gripe was the extortionate prices at the bar. If it wasn't for this, I would have given the fourth star. Sample price for two jack daniels and cokes, £11.40. I bought a round of two double jack and cokes and a bottle of Corona and was charged £22. Even for a big hotel I was a bit taken aback. I asked why the high charge and it was apparently because for each drink, I was being charged for the jack daniels and a full bottle of coke. I wasn't given the option of using one bottle over two rounds. Even at that though, £5.70 for a Jack and Coke is a bit much. In saying that, I didn't let the bar prices get in the way of what was a lovely wedding and a great time had with close friends. read more

I stayed here for about a week earlier this year. Pros: fantastic views. Modest sized rooms. Cons: the food was horrible. The AC was not working in the bar area (July stay). The staff was a bit rude. It is located a good distance from the city centre; however, it is close to two stops on the hop and ride bus. There were also ample taxis at the stand. read more

The rooms are nice not great not bad. They charge you extra for WIFI $15 pounds or $30 dollars and the speed is just average not fast and at times it is slower than dial up. Why I give the place two stars and almost leaning towards a lower rating is the food sucks! Breakfast is all you can eat bland food and terrible. Lunch or dinner is just bad. Had the Angus burger asked for medium rare, came out done and terrible, McDonalds is way better. Same goes for their fish and chips, smoked salmon, etc. The food is just lame. I could not find this restaurant listed separately so beware! this food is just plain bad! Staying here for a conference you are trapped in an industrial wasteland as far as food option without using a taxi. Big modern hotel which we were looking forward to visiting, welcomed and given our room without incident I had requested a disabled access bathroom and also been told that the leisure centre was disabled friendly, this turned out not to be the case, no disabled bathroom/shower and when I took my son who has autism and requires help to the pool there was a further problem when we were told there was no disabled changing room or access I had to allow my son to go into the gents changing room despite him not be able to dress shower then redress himself this was very stressful, I was then told that there was no way of my accessing the pool as there were no graduated steps into the pool or any form of lowering equipment well that was bad news but that would have of course been bad if I could have got from the ladies changing room to the pool but alas my rollator frame was too wide to get around the right corners at the pool to he able to get even to the side. So I spent an hour outside sitting worrying about my son who was on his own and wondering if this was 1987 when disabled access was Jon existent. I Asjed to see the duty managed who said he could send me to another gym in Glasgow at their expense I'm Not sure what to say to that, it was like would you like me to just disappear and then we won't be a problem he didn't seem overly concerned by his body language and general manner he seemed preoccupied. So all in all I left the next morning having had no shower or swim a big dissapointment I of course filled out a comment card but am still waiting to hear. If you have mobility difficulties and wish to use the leisure centre here don't bother. Further post after getting back got a call from the manager regarding my comments card, they apologised that as the website clicks into the motivation leisure centres general website it doesn't actually give you individual access problems of the hotel in Glasgow the manager assured me they will be changing this. Also she said that there are disabled access showers in the rooms and I should have been offered one. So it's reassuring that the hotel read these comments cards and take action to try and help which is good for a large company. We were also offered a complimentary overnight stay to try the hotel again to show they can actually welcome and accommodate clients with mobility difficulties. read more

Nice crown plaza. As a platinum IHG member I booked a executive level room and I was upgrade to a two room suite. Bed was very comfortable and all the extras you would want. Room had a great view from both the living room and bedroom. Executive level was great plenty of snack and free beer and wine in the evening. All the staff are very friendly and helpful with any needs. Front desk and concierge answered all questions and went above and beyond. Breakfast was great with a lot of variety, you can order made to order eggs or omelette. read more

Crowne Plaza, Came here today with 13 others for Easter meal . the staff was very friendly then food was fantastic full of flavour. The only issue I have with the over all experiance was. We had to advise the staff to remove the plates when we were finished. The buffet didnt have beef. But except from this over all experiance was delightful read more

Well was here for my works Xmas "do" the staff were attentive, the dinner was ok, but the soup was lovely, the turkey dinner was nothing startling, the veggies were like bullets. But hey ho that's Xmas dinner on mass, I stayed the night, my room was lovely with great views of the Clyde being on the 14th floor the sights were brilliant. read more
