I finally made it to The Toasted Frog, and I must say, it is every bit as fabulous as I had imagined! Tucked away in the heart of downtown Fargo, this place has such a captivating, vintage soul. It feels established, storied, and wonderfully lived-in truly a breath of fresh air for those who appreciate a restaurant with real character. The atmosphere is a delightful challenge in the best way possible; it's vibrant, bustling, and clearly the place to be. The service was absolutely top-tier both the chef and the waiter were remarkably attentive and made me feel completely looked after. I simply had to try their legendary Fried Cheesy Pickles. They are an absolute revelation! Wrapped in Havarti and an egg roll wrap, they have this almost "fruit-like" crispness and sweetness that makes them utterly addictive. I was also quite charmed by the Toasted Frog itself it really is the best in town. Full marks across the board! It's a quintessential Fargo experience, and I am already planning my next visit. We visited late at night for something fairly light. We shared a salad and calamari appetizer, both of which were tasty. Our server was friendly, but not overly attentive. It smells a bit like stale beer. There is music playing in the background and a spirited, but not obnoxious, crowd. read more

The Toasted Frog was recommended to us by Jon at The Saint Paul hotel. Boy was he right. We rolled in and snagged a window table. We recommend the Toasted Frog as well! Service by Paul was spectacular! We started with a couple of beers and the day's special green pepper soup. So delicious! For entrees, the spicy homemade sausage pizza was outstanding. I heard great things about the Toasted Frog and wanted to come here before it closes for good in June 2025. Brought college aged son here for lunch. We ordered the famous pickle appetizer, yellow fin tuna tacos and Duck Breast sandwich with fries. The server was nice, but he also doubled as the bartender. The pickles were good with homemade ranch. The yellow fin tuna tacos, you had to make yourself, ok. I liked the Duck Breast sandwich but the arugula seemed slimy as it was a sandwich melt. My son and I shared all of this. Since he is now 21, he ordered a beer. Immediately after eating, I had to rush to the bathroom with diarrhea. Also made it back to college apartment and made another beeline in the hallway bathroom. This does not leave a favorable impression on this place. The menu was very limited and our lunch was $70 including the $7 beer. I can see why they are closing. Plenty of other dining places in Fargo that are much better. One and done. read more

I came in on a weeknight and was immediately greeted by the friendliest waitstaff--attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm. Visiting Fargo and ate at Toasted Frog and also ordered the pork loin dish by high recommendation from two servers. I don't know if I had huge expectations or just have high standards but this dish was underwhelming. This ravioli shells are empty and sauce was just a sweet gravy. The pork loin was about 5 quarter inch thick slices with pico de gallo on top. Glad it wasn't dry, but it was tougher than I expected. I kind of wished I went with my gut versus recommendation...wasn't impressed. Service was good, recommendations were not, ambiance was great...lots of room to sit and did not have to wait on a Saturday night. read more

Well well well you crazy frog. We came here for my mom's birthday last night and brought my aunt frim out of town with us too. My mom got a juicy steak frites which had an outlandish portion of French fries.......just look at the photo there's gotta be a whole farm trailer load of potatoes on that plate. No complaints there. we all were stealing those and they were delicious. They also brought a mystery sauce (it doesn't get better than mystery sauce does it???? My JAM) which we later found out is duck fat Parmesan aioli . You gotta try it folks. It was good and the birthday queen was impressed. I got a margherita pizza which was faaaantabulous. The service was pain free too, easy peasy lemon squeezy just like we like it. I'd come back. My only complain is that on you gluten free menu we thought it said duck sandwich comes with gluten free bread? The Toasted Frog is one of those restaurants where locals will goggle at you if you say you haven't been there yet, because it's such an esteemed place. Have any of those in your area? Well, after getting tired of people asking if I'd gone to Toasted Frog, I finally went to keep away the stares (not actually really, I did want to try it but just hadn't quite gotten around to it). The basis is that I get why it's quite popular now! I think it might be a little over exaggerated about the niceness of the Frog, but I'd definitely visit again and I obviously liked it enough to give it 5 stars. You can make a reservation which is nice, because it is almost always packed any time I've driven by, especially in the evenings. They have a really fun drink menu, and a nice moody ambiance. I enjoyed my dish but I think I'd try something else next time. You can usually tell when a restaurant has high quality food though, and my gauge pointed that the Frog was in the green (which is good haha)! read more

The updated menu had so many things I wanted to try and all three people at my table were really happy with the different dishes we ordered. My Elk Burger was unique and really tasty. I'm going back next week to try the bison pasta dish. Fried pickles were also great... as always. The fried cheesy pickles were alright. I think they could've been seasoned a little more but a pretty good appetizer to start with. Absolutely loved the arugula salad. Never had red wine poached apples in a salad before but I'm sold! It was such a simple salad but definitely a memorable one. At an establishment with such a nice beer selection, some diners will want a conventional set of burger options; not only a single choice that comes oddly garnished. Wow. This meal was spectacular! Not sure what I was expecting from our stop in Fargo, and this surpassed all expectations. The fried cheesy pickles with sriracha sauce were out of this world! Could've eaten all of it as a meal myself. For entrees, the pork schnitzel with apple Gorgonzola risotto and walnuts was like fall on a plate. Perfectly balanced salty, sweet, tart, umami, with a little crunch. One of my favorite entrees I've had in a while. The Gorgonzola beef tip pizza was also delicious. Good wine selection and fun, helpful staff. It's definitely a pub atmosphere, high top tables and kind of noisy, but totally worth it for outstanding food. The chocolate cake dessert wasn't as amazing as I wanted it to be, but still very good. I am already dying to come back and try more! read more

Great service, food, and atmosphere. Had a daily special soup (southwest chicken) for appetizer, which was good. The Italian Beef Melt sandwich was amazing - beef at jus + gruyere + horseradish and grilled onions made for a fantastic savory combination, accompanied well by the sweet potato fries and chipotle-flavored dipping sauce. The end was capped with the least remarkable (though still good) dish: the creme brûlée. Aside from being the size of a human head (good) and nailing the caramelized sugar part (great), the custard base was average. One more mention of the service - it was stellar. It was the right mix of attentive and non-intrusive, which helps the place shine for conversation without worrying your throat will dry out from lack of water. All in all, I recommend taking your family/friends/co-workers you don't dislike. read more

This was a nice happy hour spot. I'd surely recommend dropping by and my folks tend to sit at the bar and such. There were great wine options as well as beer. There was a local recommendation that I cant recall the name but as a person who enjoys Heineken it was suggested. Also the malbec they had in stock that day was quite nice. The house sauce on the wings was great. They're fire roasted and smokey. Gotta love it! My friend went on a rave about the fried pickles. Now I'm not a pickle person so I did not indulge but from my observations it is a very big thing for the folks at this establishment. More power to you all. We tried The Toasted Frog again tonight and, although we usually LOVE the food, something is wrong at Toasted Frog. I always order the same thing... The risotto, because I LOVE it. Unfortunately, whomever was cooking tonight was missing the mark, big time. My risotto was BLAND as can be and the rice was crunchy. This was the only time I've had to use salt and pepper on my food at Toasted Frog. Furthermore, my wife, whom I have struggled to convince that a steak tastes better with a little pink in it, finally acquiesced and ordered a $35 filet mignon MEDIUM and got a RARE steak (see pic). Thanks for setting me back a decade, TF. Our calamari appetizer was also rubbery and not good. Plus, as usual, Toasted Frog is overrun with flies that buzzed around my head the whole time, probably due to them propping the door open in the kitchen. (We heard a cook come out and complain to the hostess about how hot it was in the kitchen.) That said, our server (I think her name was Shanae) was really nice and we didn't want to make her feel bad, so we did not complain about the food, paid our tab, and tipped appropriately. The cocktails were also expertly made. Seriously need to up their game in the kitchen. Not coming back anytime soon. And don't gimme any of that "we're short staffed" BS. We paid more than $100 for our anniversary meal, and at that price, we deserved better. read more

Over the last 4 years this place had been a goto when I visit Fargo for work... I'm here a lot and I like when I find consistently good food. Up to now, this was my favorite place in town as far as food quality goes... but Unfortunately- my most recent visit was a disappointment in this department. I usually get the elk burger or the salmon on salad. Both are great dishes. Tonight's burger was horribly over cooked and the fries were room temp. If you try the burger, (which I would recommend) - make sure you ask for the cook to get it right. Too tough and flavorless if it comes to the table well done. Maybe Monday's are not the best crew, or the chef outsourced the burger tonight to a line cook, not sure what happened. Either way it was not up to snuff. Only complaint, something is not right with the oven hoods at Toasted Frog. The air was so full of smoke and particulate matter that this asthmatic customer had to leave, go home, and hit my inhaler. Very good bar/restaurant in Fargo's downtown area. Some interesting sandwich offerings to choose from so I opted for the jerk chicken sandwich which came on a brioche bun with habanero creama, pineapple salsa and a very tasty jerk seasoning on the chicken. The side of fries were hand-cut and perfectly cooked. I also took a look at their cocktail offerings which had a large array of classics with a few newer inventions thrown in so it looked like a great place to come grab a drink later in the evening.
