Café d'Avignon is an artisanal bakery café based in NYC. My wife finds a table and I order two lattes along with a small RUSS & DAUGHTERS SMOKED SALMON. Topped with crème fraîche and chives on a small brioche bun.This was the perfect bite for breakfast! A freshly made Brioche bun and sliced salmon, I could eat this every day and be happy. No problems with the staff, I ordered and my items were brought to the counter quickly. I'm not sure why past reviewers are mentioning them in their reviews. While visiting one of the New York offices on a work trip recently, I decided to grab coffee with a colleague in the building which happened to be at Tipsy Baker. I ordered the Cappuccino and the bread pudding while she ordered a latte and the dark chocolate olive oil cake. Upon our return to the office, we split the deserts so we could try each other's as well. I didn't love the cappuccino... if that's even what you'd call it. There seemed to be no foam, no real creaminess to it and just tasted like a coffee with plain milk which was so disappointing. I also don't love how small the cappuccinos are, they were almost the side of a cortado. The bread pudding on the other hand was amazing! Before boxing it, they put an icing/ glaze all over it (they checked with me first) and it was delicious! My colleague tried it and she also thought it was really great! Unfortunately, her olive oil chocolate cake wasn't the same and was pretty dry/ tasteless. All in all, they do have one afternoon desert that was amazing but the cappuccino (which is what I went for) was pretty bad and the other items tried were also not great. Although I haven't sat down and eaten here, I still had a good experience. The iced vanilla latte is really good, and it's pretty sweet but not overwhelmingly sweet at the same time. Service was great; the barista told me she might have forgotten my vanilla syrup, so to taste it and let her know-- which I feel like a lot of baristas wouldn't really care to do. The Tipsy Baker is a great place to sneak in to grab a hot cup of coffee on a cold day in da City when dragging visitors to Rockefeller Center (take the escalator downstairs from the NBC Studios Marquee, adjacent to the Observation Deck line)--once downstairs it's around the corner. Ordered a vanilla iced latte and it was delicious!! My family ordered some hot chocolate and they seemed to enjoy it as well. The decor and feel of the space is also very clean and classy. Knocked two stars for employees. Went in to order with my family, and one employee went over to the podium by the door where I assume they welcome customers to sit after paying. We left right after we got the drinks since we were waiting for bagels next door. After the bagels, we went back. There were maybe 5ish employees at counter: one was taking orders, the rest were turned away chatting with one another, and no one stood behind the podium at the door. As my family sat, I stood and waited behind the customer ordering to ask if we could sit and eat. The employee at the counter made eye contact but no one else noticed me (I clearly wasn't trying to order as I already held their drink, wasn't standing where the line to order formed, and no one else was in line). They didn't acknowledge me again so I went and sat (the employee paying attention could've asked another to help me). Five minutes later, we're told we can't eat outside food, even if we bought drinks. If it was crowded or every table was taken, I'd understand but only two small families were eating. If they said we needed to purchase a food item from them to stay and eat, we would've easily done so. But they chose to have us leave when they could've made more money from us. There's also NOWHERE else to sit and eat in the mall unless it's a sit-down restaurant. Coming from out of state, it's little things like this that perpetuates the idea that "New Yorkers are rude", especially when they failed to monitor the entrance and let us know of the policy when we entered. Tole bakes the exceptional bread every day and it will probably be the best artisan bread you have ever tasted. The butter and aubergine spread are unforgettable pairings with the bread. For starters we shared the Ibérico Ham, the grilled peppers in raspberry balsamic vinaigrette, the goat feta cheese. Words cannot express the fresh flavors of these small plates. I hear that the steak tartare is their top selection! For our main meal we opted for the grilled octopus, the cheeseburger and pommes frites! The Octopus was grilled to perfection and the hamburger was mouthwatering perfect as well. Our server, Alina was exceptional in her careful explanation of the Menu items and making sure we received service that exceeded our expectations! Tole and his partners were very generous and made our evening extremely joyful and unforgettable! While this place looks like a charming addition to the Rock Center concourse with gorgeous lighting and furniture, the food is sub-par and the service worse. I came in with two coworkers for a quick class of wine and a quiche for a brief business lunch today. While the restaurant was mostly empty, it took us over 1.5 hours to get through our meal. I had the spinach quiche which tasted only like nutmeg - I could not taste the spinach or cheese. While eggplant appetizer looked great, it had a strange chicken taste. Five staff members spent much of the lunch service huddled in a corner next to the bar having a meeting. I love Pain D'Avignon and this spot has great potential - but right now it needs a lot of work. I'm disappointed. read more

Oooooof so good. I've only gotten coffee and food from the takeaway section - so technically Cafe d'Avignon, but oh wow. Probably my favorite coffee near Rockefeller Center, and all of the baked goods I've gotten so far are very tasty. I'm a big fan of the olive oil loaves, they're a bit more dense than you think so very filling. The chocolate chip cookie is also really good. The turkey blt is my favorite splurge lunch. Everything here has been really good, the staff are really friendly and they keep the line moving even when it's crowded. Would love to try the actual restaurant portion soon. read more
