We remodeled all four bathrooms in our home and purchased all of the tile at The Tile Shop in Conroe, TX. We waited more than two months to be able to get the wall tile we selected due to supply chain issues and the war in Ukraine as per explanation by personnel in the Tile Shop. Due to the delays, I ordered about 15% surplus to ensure we did not run out during renovation. When I went to return the unopened surplus tile (about $1500 value), the store manager said she could not take any of it back since more than 90 days had elapsed since purchase. (I was about 100 days past the date I picked up the tile). She said 90 days was a "corporate policy" and that she couldn't (or wouldn't?) do anything to help me. As a result, I contacted the corporate office and the regional sales manager reached out to me. Only as a result of the regional manager's efforts, I was able to return about 2/3rd's of the tile. I was told the other 1/3 could not be integrated back into their inventory even though they continued to sell it.
Due to the delay in obtaining the tile, we delayed the start of our renovation which took time to reschedule with the tile installers and service providers involved in the renovation. Although I tried to explain the situation that led up to me having the surplus to return to the manager, she refused to even try to help even after one of the employees came out to my truck bring all of the surplus materials into the store. In addition, she said that the Tile Shop return time policy was shortened from 90 to 60 days since I purchased my tile in trying to support her rigid stance.
While I appreciated the assistance that I received from the regional sales manager, the bottom-line is that the Tile Shop, whether as a result of corporate policy or a rogue store manager's actions, clearly doesn't understand the post-COVID labor environment they operate in. Further, the store manager at this particular store clearly exudes a contempt for her customers. If you buy anything from the Tile Shop, be prepared to deal with a rigid 60-day return policy, even if you experience delays in receiving the materials your ordered from them. I have since checked with and learned that some Tile Shop competitors will allow returns after 60 days despite what The Tile Shop may claim. read more
