Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician considered the father of Western medicine, once said, "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." The food and the ambiance made The Terrace one of the best places to eat on St. John. Of course the terrace was THE place to sit, but the standout dishes that we had, surprisingly, were the vegetables. They were all very well done and green, crisp, crunchy. overall, the food was very healthy, tasty and memorable.

The Terrace Restaurant in Cruz Bay has been around for years but we've not returned for awhile. The food and service was first rate. The french onion soup was uunique and delicious, as was the escargot. My main course was a lobster tail over a fsntastic risotto. Overall one of our top dinners on vacation.

While on the island we wanted to go somewhere nice to celebrate a birthday and The Terrace was highly recommended and did not disappoint. I was able to make reservations and we were seated on the outside patio overlooking the water. The restaurant is quaint with several tables around the perimeter and a few inside. Servers were following all Covid restrictions and were so attentive to our party of six. After looking over the menu we started with a variety of salads and small plates. The soup of the day was a green gazpacho topped with crab meat, which was amazing! I enjoyed The Greens salad, served with local greens, celery, asparagus and crispy shallots. Others enjoyed the scallops, fritto (fried) mushrooms and Cobb salad. All the perfect start to the meal. For entrees we enjoyed the Caribbean Lobster, Crab stuffed Shrimp, Macaroni and Cheese with Pork Belly and the Grouper special. The Lobster was some of the best I've ever had with garlic mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts, fried to perfection. Desserts topped off the night! If you're looking for a nice dining experience, knowing it is on the pricier side for some of the restaurants on the island, please visit The Terrace!

Our first time visiting the US, Virgin Islands, St. John. We heard about this restaurant called the Terrace and decided to give it a try. Let me tell you, this restaurant is spectacular. The ambience was first grade., the staff was friendly and accommodating, and the food was a 10! If you happen to be in St. John, add this to the list of restaurants you must try. I highly recommend visiting this business.

This place was great. The food was really good. The patio had a nice view. The expresso martinis were real yummy. The service was great they were all so kind and happy to help. It was perfect for our birthday celebration in St. John!!!

We had a lovely bar side meal here. I kept it loose this trip and didn't make reservations since our group has differing opinions on restaurants... everyone wanted to go to The Terrace though! And who can blame them with that view? The bar opens 1 hour before the restaurant and features a happy hour. Views are more restricted but it's still fabulous. Shrimp cocktail was a little disappointing. Mussels more than made up for it. I love mussels! Everything else, including the bartender, was on point. Stunning views. Hubs devoured his chocolate cake. A special and beautiful high end dining location.

This is one of favorite restaurants on STJ. The food is reliably fresh and the the views from the outside terrace immediately set the mood for your dinner. We started with steamed shellfish appetizer which was great. We tried the filet tips special as well. Also a winner. Wife and kids had the half chicken which they all loved. I went with Mahi which was the best on the island that week. My only gripe was the lemon aioli. The chef put way too much on...to the point of overkill. It almost ruined the dish completely. I blame myself for not asking for it on the side when ordering, but they can definitely dial it back. We'll be back next year regardless.

The mixed reviews here aren't surprising! The food was mediocre but pricey. And when you compare it to other fine dining restaurants in St. John (Lime Inn, Morgan's Mango, etc.), you'd find better value elsewhere. They also close earlier (at 9 vs 10) than other places on St. John! Here's what we had, starting with the best: [Appetizer] Seared Sea Scallops ($16) - By far the best dish we had here. The sear was excellent and the scallops were so delicious! So unfortunate that our entrees didn't match up with this appetizer. [Main] Seared Yellow Fin Tuna ($35) - It's supposed to be a lightly seared tuna on a bed of gnocchi and vegetable medley. If you're expecting more pasta than vegetable, you'll be disappointed! [Main] Classic Mac & Cheese with Half Lobster Tail ($52) - Very overpriced. The mac & chesse itself was good, and when priced at $22, it sounds reasonable. But $30 for the added half lobster tail was too much. The lobster was bland and the butter-poach flavor didn't come through. Wouldn't recommend this dish. [Drink] Ramble on Rose ($12) - Not exciting. When you're surrounded by great bars with affordable prices, you'd be better off getting drinks elsewhere. [Drink] Tea for One ($12) - Doesn't come off very "specialty cocktail" when it's just a spiked sweet tea.

Exceptional food. Okay service. The hanger steak, medium rare, was cooked perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was the main draw and food was awesome

We had the best seat in the house!

You can see the boats and island lights at night. They also played great Latin music, of all kinds. The service was amazing. We had a young guy who was a local. He loved living on the island and shared some facts. My husband and I enjoyed the muscles to start. They had a very nice lemon white wine sauce and the serving was just enough. We were left wanting more to be honest, it was very good! Next we had the paella. I liked this paella, I did, BUT, it was not flavored as an authentic Spanish paella. I was disappointed about that, but I still enjoyed the dish. It was a bit spicy, more like scratchy lol, but had lots of seafood and the rice was cooked perfectly (imo). My husband finished with a unique vanilla azafran dessert. I guess they used the azafran in the sorbet and not the paella . I did not like this ice cream. It tasted like soap to me lol. My husband really enjoyed it. Overall this was a great choice for date night and we didn't feel like we were caught in a tourist trap, so win win for us!

We started with Caesar salad, house salad and soup special. Our entree order included the special Blackened Swordfish, filet minion, grilled gulf shrimp, balsamic chicken, and fish tacos. For dessert, we shared mango strawberry sorbet, Rum cake, and pistachio chocolate bark. I can honestly say that everything was delicious. Sauces on the fish and chicken dishes was excellent. Very off-putting and frustrating as you are on an island that barely had 4g cell service most times. I bugged them enough and they made the reservation for me. Funny part is, place was empty. First and foremost, the food was good. More craziness now. They start by telling me to disregard what the menu says as a certain item does not have this side, but another side. We did that for like 4 items. When it came time to order I asked if I could substitute a side of mashed potatoes for what came with that dish. No. No substitutions. They are the ones that started the whole substitutions game. Not very flexible. I could understand it if it was like a Friday or Saturday night, nope, Tuesday. My steak was cooked to perfection and was not over-seasoned. Exactly how I would want a steak. Was so good. Potatoes great as well. Had good lumps with excellent flavor. Same for asparagus. Crab cakes were great as well. They just need to work on their customer service instead of acting like customers were bothering them. I understand that they get drunk and vacation travelers, but we were a super friendly bunch and easy going. Frustrating when the staff set the tone of the experience. Food game is on point here. As long as you are Ok with being talked to in a peasant tone you should be fine. If you are hangry, might try another place as this may put you over the edge. We loved the patio area and the hanging lights. The ambiance was great. Tip: Gratuity was already included in our check. They don't mention it and are limiting themselves on how much we would normally tip. That was on them. Great food though. Just weird practices and attitude at the establishment. Thanks!
