We made reservations at the bar because we wanted to order à la carte and thats what they said we could do at the bar on their website. When we got there, we were informed it was also prix fixe at the bar, two courses for $75. My main dish had exactly two scallops! With some greens thrown in for good measure. Nice ambience, great view. Service was attentive and lots of fun at the bar. Desserts were exceptional, made by the bartender. A mixed bag for sure. We felt that it was a bit over rated. read more

This restaurant had by far the best service I've ever experienced and all the staff made me and my boyfriend's anniversary feel so special. The view was beautiful and we even got to explore it during the middle of the meal, which was such a fun experience. We had an incredible meal at Zozo's last week! In addition to the four courses, we enjoyed a meatball and lobster to share, and several bottles of crisp white wine. The food was flavorful and beautifully presented, and the service was second to none. The atmosphere, stunning. Getting there was a bit confusing. When we drove up to the old Caneel Bay security gate, it was unattended, so we drove through. It's not overtly clear which lot you're supposed to park in or where you should wait for the shuttle, so we drove too far in and had to call the restaurant for guidance. They'd benefit from better signage. Despite getting very few bug bites on the island through the week, I got absolutely DESTROYED by the no-see-ums during our dinner. It was such an itchy distraction to an otherwise perfect meal. It didn't occur to me that, with the restaurant's remote setting, the bugs might be worse than other areas of the island. Let me assure you, they are. Our server was kind enough to bring me gin-soaked wipes, but sadly, they weren't enough of a deterrent. If you're planning to enjoy a meal here, and you're prone to bug bites, be sure to bathe in DEET beforehand. All of that to say, this was a fantastic dining experience, and we'd absolutely do it again. We've traveled all over the world and dined at several Michelin star establishments. Profusely underwhelming other than the views everything was subpar and I'm sorry to say.... To get here it's more than a trek. It's an experience because you have to cover it or drive it into a parking spot and they take you and by car service over to the restaurant is adjacent to an abandoned resort that was never rebuilt after a hurricane kind of a spooky vibe. It's pretty cool if you're early, which we were, they ask you to sit you can sit at the beach with their lunch waiting area where there is a very nice gift shop, which employee was very unattended so I walked out. The host was very attentive and did ask us if we wanted a drink which we did their Grey Goose so martini was OK. Their olives were amazing. Martini was OK. I better have refreshing non-alcoholic drink was delicious as we waited to be seated and brought upstairs we did partake in the beautiful views totally amazing and maybe what the restaurant banks on the four course tasting menu we were grateful we didn't do the wine pairing, cause my wine was not impressive as wasn't my cocktail my Sauvignon Blanc from France lackluster and for a place that's about $400 to eat without wine pairing. I would expect the staff to be amazing. They were OK they were proficient. They weren't unkind but they were just OK. Everything I had was almost too salty and the papa pasta was not al dente was borderline hard. I'm sorry I come from New York and impressing is hard, but I'm willing to work with OK and delicious for the price point. Had an incredible experience here. The meal we had was delicious, it was a four course meal with an optional wine pairing. The setting of the meal is by far the best thing. We booked the table and had it for the night. Each table had a beautiful view of the sunset and we were free to wander around the small beach right in front of the dining area as well as browse their on site store at any point in the meal. Service was top notch and we felt taken care of by everyone here. read more

What can I say about this place. First, the location is stunning. Great view of the ocean and great sunset if you are there at the right time. The tasting menu- options for three of the four courses. The charcuterie board first course is good but not outstanding. The second course burrata with a mango sauce was special. Five of us were on a "Sister Vacation" staying for 11 days. As we were in a home, we cooked most meals, saving our final night for a special evening, deciding on Zozo's. Boy, did we make the right decision. From location to atmosphere, food to service, all was outstanding. The Chef's offerings were nicely varied, and the portions were more plentiful than we expected. Only one entree disappointed - the prawns were unseasoned with a too-sweet sauce. Everything else was excellent. The Maitre d', Mike, was very welcoming. Our Server, Mindy, was professional and courteous. The support wait staff were very knowledgeable about the food, which shows good training. We had such a delightful experience at Zozo's. This was my second time and it was even better than my first! Started with the Paloma a refreshing grapefruit and tequila cocktail. Antipasto was a gorgeous selection of cheese, olives and meats just enough to warm up the tastebuds. Next, I got the Orichette appetizer which was delicous and filling followed by a sherbert palate cleanser. We moved on to dinner and I had the Osso Buco which was fantastic! I could barely eat much by then so I took it to go and it was just as tasty the next day. I wasn't wowed over by the dessert selection or maybe I was just too full to enjoy it but it was definitely different and I'm not complaining. This is a fine dining, gourmet experience something we do a few times a year. The views are amazing and the journey to the restaurant is in itself quite the experience. There is an AMAZING gift shop within the restaurant so go early and check it out!! Note**** this establishment is not handicap friendly just an FYI for those with challenges it may be helpful to call ahead and see what accomodations they can provide? Wow. Zozo's is supposedly the nicest (and certainly most expensive) dinner on the island of St. John. But honestly, it's current location at Caneel Bay is in a bed of pestilence. We arrived expecting a wonderful dinner to cap off a great week of vacation. The food and service were both very good. However, they were immediately overshadowed by the sand fleas, which were merciless. We weren't sure who had a better meal: us or the fleas. They certainly started sooner than we did and took countless painful bites out of our skin. These bugs were nasty. The no-see-ums relentlessly bit us all evening (especially around sunset) as we tried to enjoy the view. The quality of the food was hard to appreciate when we felt like we were being eaten alive. Potential diner beware. If you are coming here for dinner, take a bath in DEET before arriving. I'm certainly spending the next 4-5 days in sleepless itchy discomfort as payment for a less than comfortable 2 hour dinner. Fair trade? No thank you. If you own this establishment, you really should warn your customers (or at least have some OFF wipes available). Either way, we won't be back. Admittedly I'm writing this itching in bed waking up every 2 hrs - so forgive me if I'm a little on the angry side. And if you go without heeding my warning, don't say I didn't warn you. Worst restaurant I have ever been to. If you are under 60 years old you are NOT welcome here. We came here to celebrate 2 friends 30th birthday. Started with pictures on the dock. We asked to another couple to take a photo of us. They said no. We laughed. Ok maybe we got unlucky. We headed into the restaurant and got our reservation. We are a group of 10 and they split us up - no worries. We understand things happen. But that's when things got weird. We were told to be quiet by the manager and when it happened another table clapped. KEEP IN MIND - our reservation was at 5:45pm, the restaurant is OPEN AIR and we would have happily been quieter if another patron of the restaurant had asked us respectfully and directly. It was HUMILIATING to be shushed in that manner. That being said, after we were told to be quiet by the manager we were. After we paid for our meal (over $2.5k total for 10 people) we went to the bar downstairs. A few of us went to the shop in the restaurant and spent a few hundred dollars. Upon our return the manager approached our friend group and told us we needed to apologize to the group upstairs or else we would be kicked out. He threatened us HE SAID IF WE DIDNT LEAVE OR APOLOGIZE HE WOULD CALL PARK RANGERS WITH GUNS ON US. We were shocked. We're we loud at dinner? Maybe. Would we have quieted our conversation if someone had respectfully asked? YES!!!! We ARE NOT CRIMINALS. We are a group of young professionals - a few working in finance, a nurse, a physicians assist, a dentist, a teacher, and a lawyer. We were told we needed to leave immediately or apologize to the other party we disrupted. We're celebrating, and apologizing seemed appropriate (although very weird that the manager even wanted us to do this). One of our friends went up to do this. The group of 4 older people (over 60) were smug and angry. They didn't want an apology and wanted a fight. After some degrading words our friends got defensive. We were still unclear about what we did wrong. It escalated. Threats were made. Our dollar was CLEARLY not valued the same as that of our much older companions. The manager was the one who escalated the situation instead of simply honoring guests on both sides of the disagreement. MORAL OF THE STORY - if you are under 50 years old and looking for fun on St. John's this is NOT IT. spend your hard earned money elsewhere. Otherwise you might be discriminated against read more

We are on our honeymoon (from Seattle), so we thought that we needed to come to this place to get a picture or a T-shirt or something. We were on the Wonder of the Seas and came in to St. Thomas then we taxied it to the ferry dock at Redhook and took the ferry across to Cruz Bay and then we took a taxi to ZoZo's resort and then the shuttled down to the beach. Went w/my wife and another couple on Thurs 4/20. By chance - wehad arranged one of the few non fixed price reservation for that night. It worked out great as we ended up sharing a few dishes/deserts etc vs everyone doing the full 4 courses. Food was excellent as was the vibe/service and specialty drinks. No rush to turn over your table - it's yours for the night (just pace yourself w the drinks !!). You pay big $s but leave very satisfied. Ive been coming to St. John for 20 years now and have eaten at several restaurants and consider myself to have a solid idea on what good food, good service, and a good experience looks from years of fine dining. I will start out saying that the service was EXCELLENT. The view and restaurant were stunning and very beautiful. The gift shop was adorable and very unique. We bought several things. If I was reviewing all of that above I would offer a solid 4 to 4.5. Now for the dining experience specifically. I can speak for my dish specifically only. First we were asked if we wanted sparkling or "regular" water. We chose the "regular" water. What we were not told was that the "regular" water was $10 a bottle and we were charged $40 on our bill for it. It was served warm, with no ice, was FREQUENTLY refilled (of course) and honestly didn't taste as good as my tap water from home. We were all VERY disappointed that this was not disclosed prior to dinner as we all agreed we would have stuck to our flavored drinks. At the very least that should have been stated as a courtesy so now we have to feel a bit misled. I got the ravioli as my appetizer. It was good. The best part was the toasted hazelnuts and the ricotta. I didn't feel the "25 year old balsamic" really played much of a part of the dish. Overall it was a good dish. My entree was the "Pork Three ways". It was a very small. The sauce was very tasty that the pork sat in. The pork tenderloin was portion was very good. "Crisp Pork Belly was NOT crisp. In fact, it seemed underdone, mushy and fibrous. The sauce was nonexistent VERY thin shaving of maybe 5-6. Not worth being part of the "Pork three ways". Without the bar bill the total was $156.00 per person. Bar bill was $245 for the table. We believe we bought 5 drinks plus soft drinks (ginger-ale and coke) so were still scratching our heads at the bar bill. For me/us we wont be back next year and will look for other restaurants to try out. I would hav easily given this review a 4 if it wasn't for the dining part of the "experience". We did feel the ride down and the ride back up although bumpy and rough were part of the mystique of the restaurant. We do wish the parking lot was leveled a bit more and maintained as I needed to drop my "in-laws" off at the pickup because I was concerned about the uneven lot, rocks, roots, and holes. Our experience may have been isolated but its worth sharing for those that wish to spend the money for a 4-5 star dinner or "experience". I hope this helps the restaurant as well as it patrons. ZoZo's has been located on 5 different locations on St. John through the years. We've eaten there at 4 of them. We visited there this past Tuesday. The location at old Caneel Bay is a great spot. The make shift building is the best that can probably be done for now. You have to park just off the main road at the entrance to the old resort and then be taxi'd up in an open air safari type truck bed vehicle. We dressed up for the experience. I would suggest not doing this. The new location is all outside. You will be very, very hot. The insect situation is significant. Spray your arms and legs and neck with something before you go. Do not wear any perfume. The service was great. The food was ok. I do not have a pretentious palate. My tastes are rather simple but I do enjoy good food. The food was ok. The sunset was gorgeous but depressing seeing all the beautiful Caneel bay ground in ruins. The yards were kind of mowed. We saw many deer but it was far from the manicured grounds of pre hurricane Caneel Bay. read more

Know what to expect when dining at ZoZo's. When our party of six arrived, we were treated to an exceptional view overlooking Caneel Bay with sunsetting over St. Thomas in the distance. We were presented with a beer, wine and cocktails menu to start the night. Drinks were served in the Adirondack chairs on level one, and we were escorted to our table on level two. Our servers introduce themselves cordially, presented menus and an explanation of the way food would be presented. We were told that the table was ours for the night. Drink orders were taken and drinks were served. There was a significant pause before our servers returned for additional drink orders, and to take our food orders. More drinks were ordered, and then an extended pause in activity. Approximately one hour into additional drinks, the appetizers were presented. Requests for additional drinks were offered, but declined.. Then another extended wait of approximately one hour. By this time many in our group were growing tired, and very hungry. Our group through actions and words made our intentions clear that accelerating the delivery of our entrees was a top priority to continue continue a positive experience. The next thing we knew we were approached by the manager or owner who asked us to refrain from discussion regarding the expediency of our order. Approximately 45 minutes later, our main course arrived. I ordered pork done three ways , which was served lukewarm with many of the pieces of pork pink and juicy in the middle. A little bit rare for my taste. We had two orders of the bone in ribeye. One was ordered medium and the other and ordered medium well. Both came out rare and mooing. Unfortunately, many at the table were unable to finish their meals because the meat was not cooked per request. Food was left on the table for approximately one hour when our servers returned to clear the table. We waited for another 30 minutes before a prefix dessert tray was presented to each couple. While waiting for the dessert tray, we were pleasantly entertained by servers who were trapping cockroaches and throwing them over the railings. Equally entertaining was our server who accidentally dumped our doggy bag onto the floor. On this evening, we were not allowed to select which dessert we wanted, only what was presented and served to us. The bill arrived and it was $500 per couple. The $500 per couple cost included a 20% gratuity. If you look closely at the bill, there is a blank line where tip would normally go, and identified as additional gratuity. If not careful one might interpret this as gratuity and provide a compounded tip. I am anI am an ancestral virgin ancestral virgin Islander, and have eaten at ZoZo many times over the decades at all of the locations that they have operated from. This location is exceptional. The bones and structure of the resort are still there and we hope to see a resurrection. If you plan to eat at ZoZo's, manage your expectations, particularly with respect to timing of courses, and the entire time that you will spend at the location and the cost of the meal. When they say you will have the table for the entire evening, they will take the entire evening to serve you. As continentals we are custom to a pace of courses of meals and delivery times. That pace at ZoZo's is much slower. if you show up hungry, you will continue to be hungry and after a few drinks, perhaps a bit Hangry. read more
