If the presence of a Haigh's scone of the month does not attract you, I don't know what will.
I have had my eye on this little oasis of high tea goodness in the Emporium Melbourne since it opened, so when I saw the wondrous sign that someone had dreamt up a Haigh's scone I was sold.
The Tea Salon is pretty in pale pink and full of ladies catching up with their friends, mums and sisters after a spot of shopping. The high tea with ribbon sandwiches, cakes, tea and your choice of one of 10 different scones is $39 or pay a tad more for a glass of sparkling.
If you are after something lighter you can choose from savoury scones, a beautiful leek and feta tart, soup, a gluten free salmon salad and any number of sweet treats and scones. If you have a young child with you I can highly recommend the Children's meal - it looked so good I wished I could have it. $11.95 buys your little one a cheese toastie, sliced apple & strawberries with a mini cupcake and a milkshake.
So to the Haigh's scone. It's a traditional scone, albeit a little dense, studded with large Haigh's chocolate chips and served with a shot of chocolate sauce and some really good cream. Douse your scone in the sauce, dollop on the cream, sip on your quality peppermint tea and you will have the strength to continue on with your shopping.
Be sure to make a reservation though as come lunchtime the only way in is a booking or to patiently wait in line. read more
