The Tea Room is located in the 3rd floor of the Queen Victoria building (QVB) Elevator is slow - just take the stairs to save time. Even though we had a reservation, there was still a little wait at the top. Once inside the historic room, you can marvel at the decorative lofty ceiling and ornate chandeliers. Tables are arranged a little close to each other even though the room was barely half full. The room is airy and chilled so consider bringing a light jacket. Each person must select one set menu but they can be different set menus. There are also alcohol upgrades should you chiis Traditional High Tea Savory pastries - prosciutto thing, quiche Finger sandwiches, includes a spice eggplant, egg salad, ham and cheese, cucumber, curry and salmon (my favorite). Scone with jam and clotted cream. Pretty good - soft and warm on the inside. Sweet pastries Impressive quartet of blueberry, raspberry, choco cream and another dark red fruit tart. All are incredibly made with multi-layers and presented beautifully. Tea selection Each person can select either a green or black tea with different infusions. I tried the Irish whiskey cream - a very floral, assam blend with a flamboyant fragrance of whisky and cocoa. Undoubtedly a complex tea that commands a moment of silent contemplation to savor its flower garden aromas and flavors. This is a bit delayed review! We visited the tea room in January 2020. It was a gorgeous space! From the entrance down to the silverware. The chandeliers were grand, as was befitting for the structure. The hosts were very kind and accommodating. I parked my scooter outside the entrance to the room. It was easy enough to crutch around. The scones were AMAZING!! Best. Scones. Ever. The cream and jam were plentiful, which is not always the case at some tea rooms (at least not without requesting more ;). The tea list was a great variety! I opted for the champagne high tea with peppermint tea while hubs went for cocktail high tea with wild cherry tea. Both were deep but naturally flavored. The champagne was just ok. A bit too dry for my liking. I was also disappointed that they didn't have macarons included in the desserts. :( they are usually the highlight of high tea... especially since it's what caught my eye on the website! Located on the top floor of the swanky Queen Victoria Building, the Tea Room is decked out in the typical high tea, Victorian style. We had a reservation for a Tuesday afternoon, but didn't need it--there were only a few other tables at that time. I opted for the sparkling high tea--high tea with a glass of Aussie bubbly and the Nilgiri Mountains tea, and my sister went with the cocktail high tea. My mom ordered the Devonshire tea and my aunt went with the sandwich plate. All of our teas were yummy, but took probably close to 45 minutes to come out--long, long after our food and drinks. But we couldn't even get any servers' attention to ask them about the tea; they seemingly all disappeared or just weren't looking our way. The finger sandwiches and pastries were pretty good, but I wasn't absolutely blown away by anything in particular. The bread of the sandwiches was really soft. My favorite thing was probably a little flaky spinach pastry that they had. My mom liked her scones a lot, though to be honest I think she was mostly in it for the clotted cream. I was pretty underwhelmed overall, by both the food and the service, especially at the price tag of $60 for the sparkling tea and $70 for the cocktail tea. My sparkling wine was good and the tea was good, but I might look for a different tea room next time--I've heard Gunners Barracks is supposed to be a great experience with an awesome view. read more

Beautiful! It is truely a lovely experience to have high tea at the QVB Tea Room. The waitress and waiters are so helpful and the food is very tasty. The platter of sandwiches, hot entrees, scones and cakes was plentiful for two people. The variety of teas was amazing and you can even have either a champagne or a cocktail before the food! The atmosphere is of another era. Love the fine china and silver service on white starched and pressed table cloths. I got the traditional high tea and it was lovely! As I was alone I opted to sit in the big cushy chairs instead of the traditional dining tables and it was very comfortable. The interior is absolutely beautiful, and the staff are very attentive and polite, so it is fancy but not in a way that seems stuffy or pretentious. The traditional high tea comes with tea and 4 plates of food (savory, sandwiches, sweet, and scones). I got the Irish breakfast tea with milk and it was delicious. My favorite was the scones with jam and clotted cream, as well as the savory pastries, but the others were also delicious. The bread of the sandwiches was very soft. We had a great time at the Tea Room, but it was definitely everything to do with the company and not much to do with the Tea Room. I will say that the scones with cream were pretty delish...the food wasn't bad, but the service was awful. Our waiter, Fabio, was just plain unpleasant. I'm not sure if this is only the case on the weekend, but everyone was required to order a full tea (which was way too much food) - our bill came to $60ish dollars per person for a group of 7 people. Service was EXTREMELY slow. Our tea came only at the very end of our meal even though we'd asked for it a few times and then we were given the bill and ushered out before our plates were cleared - rude! Absolutely love the idea of tea with the girls, but next time I think we'll try the Victoria Room. read more

Took a friend for the first time to High Tea and she loved it! I figured the best place to start would be to trial The Tea Room at the Queen Victoria Building in the city. We were booked in for 11am for a 1.5 hour seating, although i highly doubt we would use that whole time! I cant remember the names of most of the items but made sure to take a lot of pictures so you can feast your eyes on the deliciousness that is High Tea :) . The wait staff was impeccable and pleasant. We were done and dusted within the hour and desperately needed to walk off the many treats we just consumed. Overall I love High Tea and always have a wonderful time sipping tea and eating the mini treats, I mean if you didn't then this is something that you must get yourself into! I came here with my sister and it was a very nice experience! The service was great (servers were very polite) and the food was solid for what it was. Specifically, the scones and sandwiches were really nice. While some dishes were either way too rich and sweet (the chocolate square cake) or salty and beyond oily (some spinach pastry) I forgot about the flaws because the atmosphere and service was just overwhelmingly satisfying. You're given a menu with a large selection of teas to choose from and then a tower for two with 4 half sandwiches to share and 4 mini sweets each. Also a scone with cream & jam and a warm tart. The Sandwiches cover a range of flavors as do the sweets. Your tea pot is filled up periodically, or you can leave the lid open & they will come fill it for you. First of all, the Queen Victoria Building is the most beautiful place to ever visit!!! You feel like you are in a movie!! Just stunning!!! This high tea place is right in the building located upstairs! When you enter the tea room your breath is taken away by the atmosphere, decor and those beautiful chandeliers! While visiting Sydney a friend decided to take us here and we had the most wonderful time! The Tea Room at the Queen Victoria Building is in the heart of the downtown hub. It's hard to believe you're in the middle of the bustling city! The space is relaxed, open and beautiful and located already inside one of the most gorgeous buildings. We booked two days in advance for a 1pm seating and they were able to sit us early since we got there 30 minutes ahead of time. We chose the $50 AUS Cheapange team options which was perfect. All the teas looked amazing but I settled for their Vanilla black tea - which is my absolutely favorite. We were done in roughly an hour but I wish we had stayed even longer! The service was fantastic and I was so stuffed I couldn't even finish all my little cakes and teas (they were very generous with the options). Therefore, it is a must do for me every time I am in Sydney. The Tea Room is my favorite place to do this. Located in the QVB, the room screams elegance. There are four tables in the center where you can relax in very comfortable arm chairs and i love to sit there. I suggest the Afternoon Tea, because you get a scone and another pastry. However, if you want to save some money and still have a great experience, get the Morning tea. High tea means three stacked plates of different pastries (both savory and sweet), a scone and other pastry (for me it was a spinach pastry) plate, and tea. I love the different types of tea and it is always delicious no matter what you choose. Even though it is an elegant room, you can wear jeans here. We were not planning on getting high tea, but last minute decided we were hungry. However, I would suggest dressing up a little and feeling classy. read more

What better thing to do on a gloomy Sydney day than to catch up with friends for a high tea. We headed up to the beautiful QVB tea rooms, at the top of he QVB building on George Street and were warmly greeted by staff who found our group of 6 a table without having booked prior. We were ushered into the lovely tearooms adorned with arched windows overlooking the city and cystal chandeliers hanging above and taken to our neatly set table. Staff kindly explained the intricacies of the menu, including various options including a cocktail, sparkling or champagne afternoon tea and alerted us to the numerous varieties of tea available, over 50! We decided to go with the traditional morning tea, which for $50 suited all our budgetary needs. We were served a number of delicious savoury items including finger sandwiches, leek quiche and chicken &a vegetable samosas followed by a delectable selection of petit fors and scones, of course served with jam and cream. We found the staff to be very attentive, regularly refilling out water and teapots and were exceptionally accommodating to dietary needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the tea rooms and would recommend it for those looking for a quiet escape of the hustle and bustle of the city or for those looking for somewhere to catch up with friends for a day out. read more

I recently visited here for the first time. As I wheelchair user I was disappointed that the only access available to me is via a very heavy and unsightly portable ramp, however the staff were willing to assist. Once I was seated, I found that the waitperson looking after my table was somewhat inattentive, and seemed to be avoiding me a lot. However, once my food and tea orders were taken, and they duly arrived, I had no complaints about the items being offered. The Tea Room is a very lovely conversion of the QVB Ballroom, and the setting is very pleasant, although a bit noisy. Having said that, it is still a great place to escape the "rat race" for a while. My party and I were booked here for a 2-hour reservation on Sunday morning, and although many members of our party were severely late, they were very kind yet firm in letting us know when would be a good time for us to go ahead and order to maintain schedule. They have a decent selection of tea, but unfortunately I can't remember the delicious flavor I chose for mine. They provide an individual pot for each person as well as a strainer for each person, which comes with unlimited hot water refills. All the members of my party chose a classic high tea, and it came with a selection of beautifully sliced sandwiches (cucumber, salmon, tuna) and a variety of sweets (fruit tart, marshmallow cake, chocolate mousse cake, matcha macaron). They serve three savory pastries as well as scones (to be enjoyed with proper cream and jam). All of the items I tried were delicious and had me stuffed by the end even though I couldn't try everything. Service was great and efficient, and while I'm sure they were annoyed because we were taking our time getting there, they were very professional and handled our terrible group like pros. The only suggestion I'd have for them is for them to allow people to try two different teas. At other high tea establishments (albeit in Canada), they allowed customers unlimited refills of two different teas if they desired. I had a great experience just recently where my partner and I were browsing QVB and dropped in on Easter Saturday at 1pm with no reservation. The maitre d' was very pleasant and got us a table within 5 mins even though the place was full when we arrived. Our waitress was very pleasant and the tea and food came out quickly. The tea was very nice (had Assam while my partner had wild cherry). Overall, the food was tasty with a couple of minor exceptions where a couple of biscuits were too sugary for me but others with a more sweet tooth may like this. I found my experience to be contrary to the reviews, great service and good experience. The only pitfall for me was I dressed too casual (thongs, tee and unshaven) while all the other patrons seemed in more formal getup. Next time I'll put in a bit of dress effort before enjoying the QVB high tea (I will be back there again) read more

I've been here about ten times now. My not so secret tea snobbery loves this place. Yes it's pricey but I would not say that it is overpriced. I always leave full and sometimes I take home the sweets with me I've been unable to finish. $39 will get you the standard afternoon tea which comes with a range of finger sandwiches, spinach pastries, a savoury tart about 5 varieties of sweets and a massive scone with jam and cream. You can refill your teapot with hot water as many times as you like as well (which is a cardinal sin, but anyways...). For a glass of bubbly to accompany you you're looking at parting with $44. But honestly, it's Sydney, it's touristy so of course it costs a bit more. My criticism would be that they do not change their teas or have an extensive range to choose from. I realise this is because they stick to the pure unmixed blends but still....a few more options especially on the connoisseurs list would not go amiss. read more

Went here for high tea and sparkling wine with my mom on the Tuesday after Mother's Day. The service was slower than unexpected and slightly disorganised, and the food was mediocre. That aside, the setting is beautiful, and when the staff do finally get to your table, they treat you respectfully and knowledgeably. We loved our tea, which was recommended to us, and the wine was surprisingly good. I wanted to do something with my mom that felt like a special occasion, and this was definitely it. What I didn't realise is that every other time I've been here I've had afternoon tea, so therefore when I waltzed in with a tourist on my arm and asked for tea... Well, listen up ladies and gentlemen, if you want proper tea without afternoon tea to go with it, this isn't the place for you! Thankfully the manager here totally understood my confusion and she actually changed our order around so that it suited us and there was a win on both sides. I didn't get to eat all the food that came out only because we'd had sushi not long before heading here and I couldn't fit another thing in! However from experience the sweets, tarts, scones and sammiches here are lovely. If you do want an afternoon tea with all the bells and whistles and proper china, then this is the place you come to. Embrace the chintz, and pretend you're in a country house hotel in the lake district or something. A group of us went to the Tea Room for a friend's farewell afternoon tea. We ordered a selection of sandwiches and baked goods. I opted for something from the restaurant menu. I had the baked barramundi, baba ganoush, radish and lime, which was a culinary delight. Well cooked, a great balance of textures and flavours, and beautifully presented. What was most disappointing about our experience was the TERRIBLE SERVICE. The waitstaff were clumsy and rude. First, one of the waitresses spilt milk all over my friend's dress. Next, another waitress tripped and spilt a jug of water onto the floor. Last but not least, one of the waiters asked us to "leave." In terms of rudeness, this incident takes the cake. Despite booking 2 weeks in advance for our Tea Room session, and never being told that our session had an 'end time', one of the wait staff asked us to leave "because the next guests have arrived." Interestingly, there were plenty of other unoccupied tables and chairs. And even more to our surprise, there were no "other guests" to be seen. The waiter's tone was also very impolite. It was a nice enough venue, though not as beautiful as the Victoria Rooms at Darlinghurst. We definitely didn't feel like royalty, and weren't treated as such.
