Tea box
Mr Kitty K.

Love this place; the food, the tea, the service and the ambiance. We stopped in for afternoon tea; hubby opted for a sandwich. Glass tubes of the aromatic tea offerings are presented in a Tea Box. A brewing timer accompanies each pot of tea marked with recommended brew times. The afternoon tea included sandwiches, cakes, scones and more, they are happy to provide a to-go box. We also sampled their tea infused gin, which we will order on a future visit. The Tea Junction has special events like the upcoming Gatsby night (sold out). Also be sure to look carefully at the portraits along staircase to 2nd floor; very unique!

If you are not addicted to NOA bread by the time you write this review then I don't know what to…read moresay. It's the best bread ever, soft and delicious, today we had it at home with melted butter and beans. NOA is not just a bakery, they make their own coffee and beer and it's all under one roof. Ta Da! something for everyone. We snagged the last almond croissant yesterday and it was unbelievable. Pablo had a coffee and a Troglodyte mild chaser and it was good. All this at just the beginning of the day. Service was friendly and attentive and the ambiance was top notch, likely the most bougie on the island and let's face it old world charm is good and great but sometimes you just want a preppy/techy vibe. Across from the ferry terminal and a good place to work or lollygag.

Noa has got a super chilled out vibe and wouldn't be out of place in either Manchester's NQ or London's Shoreditch with its laid back staff and mismatched furniture. The clientele is much more varied however, with young hipster types, families with kids and 30 something young professionals all happily rubbing shoulders. Like the best coffee shops in the NQ and Shoreditch, Noa takes their coffee seriously and every time I've been in there my favoured cappuccino has been excellent with even my husband, notoriously picky about the standard of his flat whites, leaving more than happy. Food wise Noa offer a selection of tasty looking cakes as well as a short daily changing savoury menu with things such as soup, salad and sandwiches on it, all of which offer variety a bit different from your bog standard cheese and ham sarnie etc. Last time we were in I had the 'Bugsy' salad, which although was extremely virtuous being full of veggies, seeds and houmous, was fresh and really tasty. My only negative is that I found it a bit pricey at around the £6 mark when it was pre-prepped in the fridge and presented in a plastic cup, more like a takeaway option. Call me fickle but I'd have been more than happy to have paid this if it had been presented on a proper plate and even better if they'd added on a chunk of their lovely bread (Note, the photo I added of it was after I grabbed a plate and pinched a couple of pieces of my husband's bread!) Speaking of which, don't forget to pick up a loaf or two of their fantastic in-house baked sourdough if you're visiting. Although be warned, pair it with some luscious salty butter and you'll more than likely demolish it within the day!

I found this place while wandering (well, limping, after breaking a toe that day) across the Isle…read moreof Man, and ending up in Ballasalla. I probably looked awful, and tremendously out of place: a wayward nomad with a busted foot, who had just hobbled all the way from Douglas, across farms and back-country. Entering the restaurant 30 mins before opening time, I was famished, and hoped to enjoy a world class meal with the limited time I had before my flight off the isle. Despite my haggard appearance, the lady inside, whose name I do not remember, greeted me warmly. She even allowed me to enter the grounds of Rushen Abbey, though it was closed, to look around and kill some time before the restaurant opened. Everything I ordered, from the bread, to the asparagus soup, to the lamb, was exquisite, and worthy of all the praised lavished on this place. Service was swift, friendly and thorough. They even called me a cab to get to the airport in time for my flight! My experiences on the Isle of Man, as a whole, were tremendously memorable, punctuated by the incredible meal that served as my final souvenir of this amazing isle. I only hope to someday be able to return, to experience it all again...and hopefully I'll be cleaner, and less damaged next time. 10/10.

The food is quite good. I started with cured duck breast, which was excellent. Even ate the micro salad that accompanied it. My main was lamb cannon. The lamb was cooked perfectly and served on a bed of toasty onions and spinach. Very enjoyable. I loved a side tomato and onion salad. The balsamic on the salad was perfect. Tomatoes were very fresh. There is also an extensive children's menu, which many good restaurants do not have. Although the servers were very nice and tried extremely hard, they were not at the same level as the Stephen Dedman or other restaurants of comparable food quality. First, when our water pitcher was served, they did not fill the individual glasses. Later in the meal, when the pitcher was empty, it was not refilled. After ordering dessert (which in itself took awhile for them to take our order), the dessert order probably took 15 minutes to serve. They apologized once and offered us drinks, which we declined except for milk for my daughter, but then charged for the milk even though it was offered due to the delay. None of these would be a big deal but they did conflict with the Michelin star experience they were trying to create. The food is reason to come back, and the staff is nice.

Brysons is so bad I was not able to find anything good about it. I would rate it a zero if I could, but I can't. We went here on a sunny afternoon in need of food, reprieve from the heat, and a bathroom break. There were so many other tea shops around town we could have gone into, but this was the first place we saw and they were offering 2 pots of tea and 2 cream scones for 5 quid (not a bad deal, plus we were desperate for the loo). It turned out the special was only being offered in the bakery downstairs, where there was nowhere to sit, so we opted to head for their tea room upstairs, where everything was double the price. The tea room ambience was awful. It did not look like a proper tea room at all, and looked more like a candidate for a restaurant makeover. The carpet was worn and had a horrible green and red floral pattern. The tables and chairs were these 90's oak set that just looked naff. When we walked in, there were 3 servers milling around by the till but not one of them acknowledged our presence - this, despite the fact that there were only 2 other customers in a rather empty-looking tea room. I actually had to ask one of them if we should just seat ourselves or wait to be seated. We seated ourselves. Bad ambience, check. Uninterested staff, check. We should have walked away at this point, but didn't (our judgment was obviously clouded by our low blood sugar and bladders screaming to be emptied). We thought things could not get any worse, but we were wrong. 1. We were served by a man who just could not care less about his job, never mind his customers. He was SIGHING as he was taking our order. We asked for just 1 pot of Darjeeling tea to share as I was not going to have much tea. He flatly told us we had to order a pot of tea for 2. Fine. No sense in debating this. 2. When we asked for a Victoria Sponge cake, the sighing man said they had run out. WTF? This is a tea room staple, for crying out loud! There's a bakery downstairs - surely they can find some sponge cake, cream, and jam and slap it all together? Apparently not. All credit to him, he did point me to this almost empty display case that had 3 slices of pathetic looking cakes - lemon, carrot, and vanilla cream - none of which looked even remotely appetizing as they looked stale, cheaply made, and were covered in cling film. Ummmm...thanks, but me thinks not. 3. Since there were no cakes, we ordered an egg salad sarnie because we thought this was something they could not screw up. At over 5 quid, surely, it HAS to be decent. It just HAS to be, we told ourselves. Ah, how wrong we were (more on that later). 4. Our order was was served to us - scratch that - dropped off at our table by the most surly and sour-faced woman I have ever encountered (she may as well just have drop-kicked it) . She only gave us one place setting, so when we asked for a second place setting, she barked "you only ordered one sandwich!", and walked away in a huff. Lovely. 5. Now on to the 5 quid sandwich. It was the worst egg salad sandwich I've ever had. The thin white bread was stale and was probably bought at ASDA on sale at 2 loaves for 50p. It was of such low quality, I do not know how a restaurant could even use it. The egg salad filling was so thin, we could hardly taste it. Oh, and the side of coleslaw it came with tasted like an ASDA special as well, and was WARM, like it had been sitting at room temperature for about 1/2 an hour. 6. The tea - for which they have the nerve to charge 4 quid - consisted of one medium-sized pot with 2 Twinings Darjeeling tea bags (yes, they could not even be bothered to use proper tea leaves). 7. The clincher? When we were ready to pay for the bad food and service, NOT ONE member of staff was around to take our money. We waited by the till for over 5 minutes, and still, no one came, so we left our money on the counter. Since the smallest note we had was a 10 Pound note, we ended up leaving a tip. We should have just walked away without paying, but we believe in karma, so we did the decent thing. Bryson's is a total let-down for a place that calls itself a "Tea Room and Craft Baker". So, to anyone reading this, please heed my warning and give Brysons a miss. When you see it, just walk on by and pretend you did not see it. Do not be fooled by it. Do not be tempted by it. Just keep walking and do not even give it a second glance.

Thankfully the food is just as spectacular as the views they offer made of course from fresh local produce, so I've been told. Have you noticed this has become a bit of a given for alot of the restaurants? It almost seems as if they are repeating it parrot fashion to sound more green. Cynical thoughts aside their pan roasted loin of cod with tarragon and sesame seed crust is simply delightful. There is Mediterranean flair in the air you will notice with Mediterranean seafood featuring as well as antipasti sharing platters. The menu has a Cheshire / Mediterranean mixture which is nice and reflects the owners state of mind perhaps. The summer Sunday barbecue menu however is Sheldrake's crown jewel. At £17 per head and 3 courses awaiting you, there best be some room in them tumtums I tell thee. The options are all equally appealing and for the first time ever in any of my reviews each one of them deserves a special mention. We start off the precedings with 8 oz Cheshire rib eye steak marinated in a chef made barbecue sauce, for all of you who don'like change. For the likes of me who love bit of spice in our lives there is the garlic and mint marinated Welsh lamb rump kebab served with tzatziki dip, yowza!!! For the ladies perhaps the Chargrilled corn fed poussin with garlic and tarragon butter might tickle your fancy. Last but by no means least the vegans amongst us will be more than content with the rumptuous Thai marinated Halloumi kebab. Seriously how can you go wrong? Magnificent innings indeed. Throw into the mix a wide variety of tapas on offer and hey presto you have a Sunday barbecue you will not forget.
