Little Fish Cafe - 1/2 lobster special of the day

This place is impeccably clean and organized! I had the 1/2 local lobster special and it was just that, Special. Outside seating available if the sun is shining.

A very rich creamy sauce and the bread was drenched thus there was no textural contract making it sickly. Queenies...well queenies are queenies. Malaysian fish curry soup. Red curry with some tasty fish and a couple of shrimp. Again very heavy and creamy - no bread for contrast or a few noodles. Lastly beetroot over a creamy something piped with pesto around the side. The beetroot was overpowered by the creamy stuff. Again no bread to spread it on or anything to draw contrast - a parmesan crisp might have worked. I asked for more bread or crackers to mop up all these soupy things. Half a very small slice of "artisanal" bread was brought for which they charged me a squid fifty. Its a small cafe, very nice with a great view and some great ideas but 6 hours later my tummy is still reeling from those sauces. A lime and mint drink (soda chanh ) was delicious but beware two thirds of the glass was ice leaving a few inches for liquid. Fifty Five pounds, not bad but no need to go back.

A few days before our visit, I emailed the restaurant to book a table and to request a vegan option, as this is predominantly a seafood restaurant and booking in advance is a must, due to its popularity among locals and those who make a special trip to enjoy their locally sourced ingredients. I was assured that the chef would ensure there would be a vegan option available for me, so I was stunned when I arrived to find that they had prepared a vegan menu for me, with a choice of three starters and three mains, any of which would have suited me perfectly. After a lot of deliberation over the amazing offerings, I went for oyster mushrooms in garlic and parsley olive oil, followed by tomato and pimento risotto, with spinach and rocket, then finished off with coffee and mints. This is fine dining at its absolute best and everything was so delicately crafted and perfectly flavoured in a way I have never experienced before. My boyfriend loves seafood and he adores this place, always opting for the seafood platter, which is a mountain of weird and wonderful seafood, which he assures me is delicious. The fish couldn't be any fresher as it's caught right outside the door and everything is sourced locally so that the ingredients are of the highest quality. Campbell's is the nicest restaurant I've ever been in, due to its superior food, staff who make you feel like royalty and perfectly laid tables with hand-crafted cutlery and napkins folded to perfection. It really is a cut above the rest in the area and well worth a journey to Portpatrick.

Now this is the place to eat in portpatrick plenty of choice and great fresh seafoodread more

The meals were fabulous and the service brilliant. I cannot recommend the Lobster Pot highly enough and we will definitely be visiting the Lobster Pot again in the future.

We went to this well talked up restaurant during our short 5 day holiday on this beautiful island…read more We were staying in a beautiful cottage nearby and were excited to check out the place and fill ourselves with great, fresh sea food. I must say that overall we were a bit disappointed and that our experience did not reflect at all what other reviews here and elsewhere have related. Upon arrival you find yourself a bit confused about where to go. On the left is the restaurant proper with small groups of people eating and looking at you like you shouldn't be there. Then a waitress notices you, gives us the same look and took us to the bar/waiting lounge area for us to grab a drink and look at the menu. That bit is fine and rather agreeable actually. I wasn't balled over by the choice of beer but the wine list is attractive and we enjoyed our wine. Shown to our table we were quickly served our starters. My partner had been dreaming about getting some oysters for a long time so was really looking forward to it. They also grill the oysters with welsh cheese and I thought that I would give that a try, feeling curious. The standard oysters tasted good and fresh enough but mine were just flooded with a massive dollop of gooey cheese which is not quite what I was hoping for as I could not taste any oyster which were a lukewarm texture thing under what was bog standard cheddar that could have come from Tesco. We then ordered the lobster thermidor. I never had lobster thermidor before and to be fair rarely order lobster as it's an expensive shellfish. But I have had lobster before, albeit cooked differently. What we got was rather tasteless chewy chunks of lobster meat flooded in a butter and shallot sauce. LOADS of sauce. I don't really want to sound like a whingebag ( I know, big fail) but in a place like Anglesey which should be swarming with superb fresh seafood, having this kind of food on a plate on the sea side is just too disappointing. Especially from a place that claims to do it justice. To alleviate things somewhat, the service did improve upon the initial reception and our waitress was very attentive and patient. I just hope we came on a bad day but considering the bill I don't feel like having another go anytime soon.

It's something a little special in Bangor, and sad to say it will be closing soon. Get here before the end of October for a final taste of their tasting menu. The service is warm and friendly and the staff where attentive. The glasses and plates were well chosen and very pretty. It was dimly lit with the music picking up the closer it got to closing time, some interesting tracks to. The whole experience was well put together from start to finish. The tasting menu is five courses, with your starter, fish, meats, and desert. The portions and pacing is perfect to leave you feeling satisfied but not over full. Each of the courses where we'll thought out and had very subtle flavours to begin, building to more powerful tastes near the end. A highlight was the compressed apple for dessert, which gave a strong taste of apple leaving a slightly floral note at the end. Overall a very relaxing and gratifying experience. I'll be sad to see this place go as I'd like more chances to try their food.
