I decided to have my taxes prepared this year by a CPA - due to all of the things I had to take…read moreinto account - buying a home this past year, capital gains from stocks to make the down payment on the mortgage - and so on - I needed for my returns to be accurate. And I don't trust accountant chains - such as H&R Block. In short, I felt my tax situation this year was more complex than normal and I was a lot more comfortable having someone who knows this stuff taking care of it. And having someone to represent me to the IRS should they have any questions about the preparation. I visited with Brown and Associates, P.C. last Sunday afternoon - met with Nettie - dropped off my documents with her, filled out some forms, had a conversation - and then waited. Nettie called me a couple of times during the week for some additional documentation she needed. They called me this morning to inform me the work was done and that I could stop in to pick up my paperwork. I stopped in before lunch, met with Nettie, went over everything, and got some good additional advice from Christie - one of their Staff Accountants. My only criticism of their business is knowing how much you are going to pay for their services. They charge by the forms they need to fill out - which makes sense. But, it would be helpful from an expectations and customer service standpoint if they had a checklist they could go over with you ahead of time to get an idea or guesstimate of how many and what forms would be needed and what that cost might be.

I first met with Mark for a consultation in 2011 for my startup business. As a successful salesman…read moreturned entrepreneur, I had no experience at all with accounting or QuickBooks. Mark was always quick to reply with answers to my questions and made the answer easy to understand. His guidance along with a good read of QuickBooks for dummies helped me to see the true financial position for my young company. This insight was critical to my early success. When it comes to tax prep and filing requirements, Mark and his team are proactive and there's no guessing about what is next in any process as they will provide specific to do list and timeline. I switched to another accounting firm for a couple years after joining a networking group just to help support that group. It was a mistake. The service, guidance and overall experience with the other firm was not up to what I had enjoyed with Mark. I contacted Mark and made the switch back. Immediately I felt relief as he found issues and oversights and provided a strategy to get us back on track with detailed knowledge of the tax law. If you are reading this review because you need an accounting firm for your business you need to contact this team. From my one man startup in 2011 to today's dozen employees and a multi million dollar revenues Mark has been with me for nearly every step and kept me pointed in the right direction. I had an absolutely terrible experience with Frye & Company, CPAs, especially with Mark Frye. From…read morethe very beginning, communication was a disaster--disorganized, chaotic, and completely unprofessional. Not only did they fail to properly handle my documents, but they also blamed me for their own lack of organization. Mark Frye was not just rude--he yelled at me, called me dumb and stupid, and displayed completely unacceptable behavior. It's clear that this man has serious anger management issues and should not be dealing with clients. Additionally, I wanted to file both my corporate and personal taxes, and instead of helping me, he kept insisting that I had to handle the corporation separately for no logical reason. Even worse, he told me that I should change my S-Corporation to an LLC because, according to him, an S-Corporation is "no good"--without giving me any valid reason or explanation. Clearly, he has no idea what he's doing and doesn't understand how to properly manage accounting. The worst part is that after all of this unacceptable treatment, he told me he was going to send me a $5,000 bill just for speaking with me on the phone twice. This is outright abuse and a scam. If you are looking for a serious, professional accountant who treats you with respect, stay far away from this firm. Not only will they waste your time and money, but they will also treat you in the worst way possible. There are far better options that actually know how to treat their clients with the seriousness and professionalism they deserve.
