July 2024 Update for Tax Year 2023 Mark Frye has amazed my wife and I even more this year than in years before (see below). The complexity of our finances, compounded by our farm income and expenditures, was beyond anything my wife and I were able to handle on our own. Mark's knowledge of the tax codes is awe inspiring, and he and his team put together the most comprehensive, thorough tax return we have ever seen. When we retire, we'll be sad to leave Virginia...but from Tennessee, we will still use Mark Frye as our CPA and tax preparer. He truly is the best there is. Tax year 2022 update Frye & Company, CPAs did another exemplary job for my wife and I this tax year (2022). We had sought a good tax company a couple of years ago to deal with estate tax matters with regard to my late parents' estates, and he handled not only that but our state and federal returns effortlessly. We were so pleased that we kept coming back to him. This year, we had not only the residual tax issues with the estates as they finally closed, but rollover issues with my wife's retirement funds, and the big one: in 2022, we bought a farm in Tennessee where we intend to build our retirement home. We had a row cropper plant it, and it returned us income immediately. We also had no idea whatsoever how to handle the whole thing from a tax perspective. Frye & Company, CPAs did, and had tax returns for Virginia and two other states, and of course our Federal return, prepared and e-filed on time. We knew we would owe something, but our estimates were overly conservative - we owed significantly less. Reviewing the returns (which were the longest I've ever seen), I could follow the reasoning and see that it was right - but my wife and I could never have done it on our own. It takes expertise far beyond what a non-professional could ever amass. When we eventually do move to Tennessee, we will still keep using Frye & Company, CPAs, even if it means traveling back to Virginia to go over our documentation: especially so, since they are wonderful people, and it's a pleasure dealing with them. Tax Year 2021 - We first meet Mark Frye My wife and I have used Turbo Tax until this year, when, due to inheritance issues, we decided to look for a CPA who was also skilled in estate law. We hit the jackpot with Mark Frye. Our initial meeting was with him personally. He laid out his company capabilities thoroughly (just what we were looking for), then briefly glanced through the tax file we brought. He immediately spotted an error that Turbo Tax had made in our 2021 filing, and we proactively filed amended state and federal returns - avoiding nasty grams from the tax folks. His company is first rate, and we intend to use it for years to come. Absolutely great value for the money. read more

Unfortunately, I relocated out of the Northern Virginia area last year and attempted to use another local CPA firm in my new location. Well, it only took once to see the level of service and attention to detail that F&Co provide. Yes, they ask a lot of questions but they take the time to get to know you and issues you are facing and the questions are just them digging for solutions and deductions. I wish my doctor and attorney would take the time and energy to carry out their services in the same manner as Mark Frye, CPA and his staff at Frye & Company, CPAs. They are busy and even with all of the additional demands during last year's pandemic, they stayed focused and you could clearly see them working meticulously and steady navigating the pandemic with their client interest at heart. Truly people serving people and I can't say enough about the experience of working with this firm. They even delayed invoicing for their clients during the pandemic and waived any late payment interest when we were unable to even timely pay after receiving their delayed invoice. They never sent us late notices and worked with us to help us navigate during these trying times. When do you ever see or hear anything like this from a CPA for law firm! UPDATE: I received a notice from the IRS the new CPA in the area I relocated and after repeatedly attempting to solicit a response from the new CPA, ultimately, they were not only nonresponsive but defensive. As such, I turned the matter over to Frye & Company, CPAs who were very responsive given that they did not prepare the returns resulting in the IRS notice. Mark Frye, CPA and his team at Frye & Company, CPAs almost immediately did a thorough review of the returns prepared by the other firm, prepared a detailed response to the IRS, and prepared amended tax returns actually resulting in the IRS owing me money! I can't say enough about Mark Frye, CPA and his team at Frye & Company, CPAs! read more

We tried several other CPAs and were unfortunately dissatisfied with them. Most talked in CPA technical speak leaving us overwhelmed and a bit confused. This is our first go at our business, so we were not sure if the services they were pushing on us were needed or not. It felt kind of like going to a mechanic when you don't anything about cars. We called Mark unknowingly at the peak time of year for him. You would not know it as he answered our inquiry quickly. We went to his office and everyone was very professional and polite. Mark makes himself very available at all times and usually answers all inquiries within hours. You can tell the guy really loves what he does and is very good at it. Most CPAs may great at what they do, but do not have a very sociable, pleasant disposition. That's not a problem with Mark. He sat down with us and comprehensively went over all of our options and did not rush us at all. There really is not better CPA to work with. He knows his stuff and it does not bombard you with all the legalese that makes accounting seem like a foreign language. He speaks in plain talk and does not push unnecessary services that you may not need. We had other CPAs suggest packages that he deemed unnecessary. He operates with the philosophy of keeping clients long term and does not nickel and dime them to get every penny he can. Bottom line, you won't have a better experience with a CPA than Mark. We highly recommend him! read more

Mark Frye has prepared my and my wife's companies, and our personal tax returns for over a decade. We will continue to use Frye & Company, CPAs for several reasons. First, they are family owned and operated small business (part of America's economic backbone). Secondly, while I have advanced degrees in applied mathematics, worked as a RAND analyst, and taught at West Point; Mark is one of the most intelligent people I know. Finally, and most importantly, Mark and his small staff are consummate professionals with integrity beyond reproach. As a retired Army officer and graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York; I understand the character traits of a "professional." The entire staff at Frye & Company, CPAs continuously exhibit these traits in every aspect of their interaction with my wife and me. Mark and his staff always do what they say they will do - a notable trait seldom seen in the 21st century. read more

Frye and Company have been serving as my personal and business accountants for over 15 years. They've been nothing short of fantastic in all aspects of their work. The thing I appreciate the most about working with Mark and his team is that I get the sense that my returns are getting a significant amount of individual attention. You don't get a sense that your return is just going through a machine. Most importantly, the team is constantly looking at my returns and applying all applicable tax laws that I can advantage of that would result in benefits to me or my business. I would highly recommend Frye & Company to any individual or company looking for a trustworthy, knowledgable and hardworking accounting firm. read more

We searched high and low for a CPA when we relocated my mom to assisted living in Manassa, VA. She was 95 and her then current CPA was "retiring" at close to the same age :) We found Frye & Co, and have developed a great service and friendly relationship since 2017. Mark and staff have delivered excellent service, and have provided many explanations and tips over the years. Tax returns are always prepared in a timely and precise fashion, along with supporting documents and clear "next step" instructions. Mom is 99, and Frye & Co is still our go-to CPA for all mom's concerns. We recommend Frye & Co without reservation. It is a real pleasure doing business with them! Jim Jones read more

I strongly and sincerely recommend Mark Frye and his team at Frye&Company. I have been with him for years, on the advice of another client of his, Rob Hurdle. He has been supportive, informative to the point of writing detailed descriptions of new regulations I did not understand or computations I did not know were required. He has advised me in planning to adequately pay in to cover my taxes and made suggestions for additional steps I should take. I told him just this tax period that he was worth every penny that he charged and I am VERY stingy with that comment. Five stars for Mark and Jennifer and the remainder of his team. read more

We came to Frye and Company with some issues that needed to be addressed and cleaned up. We also wanted to apply for non profit status. Mark and his team are always extremely responsive, available anytime, days, nights weekends. We are a small Booster club and Im sure not the firms biggest client :) but we never feel like we are not important to them. Mark answered our many many questions, addressed the issues we had and did our non profit application, which has been granted by the IRS. We are so glad to have found a professional firm that cares about their clients. We look forward to our continued work with Frye and Company! read more
