Grandad, Son and Grandson went back to The Swan, last visit was nearly two years ago. Last visit was on a 'two for one' late evening meal and was unexpectedly well cooked and presented.
'The Swan' has just changed owners and has a new 'gastro menu' with an increase in prices.
As a group we ordered a mix of meals and got a mixed feed back from the age groups! Surprisingly, Grandad enjoyed his crispy pork ribs on pesto mash, grandson went for cod and chips but complained that the chips were too fatty and without the usual condiments, and me in the middle tried salmon fish cakes on a bed of spinach, with poached eggs. My fishcakes started well but ended up becoming a soft mash!
An observation made during our visit was that tables were being served but not getting the utensils/condiments. Several diners either had to get the server's attention or come up to the cash desk.
In summerising, the pub/restaurant has only been open three weeks, and the service staff haven't yet 'bedded in'.
I think the simple menu, cooked using fresh foods, will draw in locals away from the 'two for one' pubs. The pub is an established location and I would recommend a visit provided it sorts out it's service issues.
By the way, The Swan does serve an excellent range of beers! read more
