If you have questions they will seek to answer them. If your child is unsure, they will talk and explain the procedure patiently. This location has a laser so that helps with recovery and avoiding numbing and child can have lunch directly afterwards, no waiting. They give your child a reusable gift bag with toothbrush and toothpaste and stuffy in it. And your child can chose a little toy each visit which helps little ones look forward to the dentist instead of fearing it. The waiting area has a play house with lots of books and toys and a regular sitting area for parents n older siblings to sit comfortably. They also have a tv in waiting room and in waiting area inside and above dental chairs so kids can be focused on a show of their choosing during the cleaning or procedure. There's several dentist at this location and they allow you to see who is available first or who you prefer. We are new so we do not have a preference but I like that they have that option.

In December when I visited, they confirmed I had insurance but required me to obtain a print out of my benefits. I provided it same day only to wait two months for a denial. When I asked why it was denied they couldn't provide a reason. Then the tooth became infected and my face swelled up. I had to go to the emergency room and was prescribed antibiotics. Last week I got a text from Rose Dental saying the root canal was finally approved. I took a Friday off, the only day Dr. Hoss is available. My blood pressure was too high. The technicians didn't have my arm supported or elevated. They gave me a number to get my blood pressure down to and instructed me to see my primary. I did that and the first reading was under the number they gave me because they elevated and supported my arm. I was prescribed blood pressure medication and informed Rose Dental I had a print out with my blood pressure under the limit they told me. When I spoke to Marie and told her that I completed all this she checked with the doctor and instructed me to come back at 1pm. I did and then they told me the doctor didn't have time to see me. Dr Hoss doesn't have anymore time today because the last patient confirmed. I'm in pain and I finally thought I was going to get treatment but they ran me around and then turned me away. They are saying it's because my blood pressure isn't stabilized but they are afraid I will have a heart attack. But you willing to put me through all this today. Dr. Hoss should come back Monday for all the negligence of the staff.

While texting back and forth to find a good time to come in, I asked if I could make a business suggestion. She asked what I meant, so with every intent on being helpful I mentioned her website address as it relates to how clients see it, "delmarpedo.com", in that "pedo" these days is mostly used as shorthand for pedophile. As she said I am the only one who ever pointed this out, I replied that it's likely because it is an awkward conversation and maybe she should check with a trusted friend. This was all it took to have her refuse to communicate with my children and me about follow up treatment. She made a point of telling me as of May, she would no longer serve Medi-Cal patients, I assume to shame me for having Medi-Cal at present and to assuage her own tender ego. When she recently gave up her own office to share space with another practice, I assumed it was that the rent was high and she didn't have enough clients to stay there which is why I mentioned the web address. Being the "pedo" dentist of Del Mar, might be an extra bad look these days with the Epstein Files in the media, so my bringing it up was done in the spirit of helping a business owner who might not have taken the connotation into account. We moved to the Escondido area and started seeing Dr. Sharafi. We first came a few years ago and my first impression was they had a really nice office and set up with ceiling TVs, headphones, etc. that are a hit for my son. The person who really makes this office is the dental assistant, Shakira. She is the one who primarily works with the kids for routine cleanings and x-rays. She has always been so nice and patient with my son. My first impression of Dr. Sharafi was she is not personable but for some reason I liked her because she is firm and gets it done without pushing his limits too far which is tricky. That's what I like in his teachers and now in his dentist apparently. Both Dr. Sharafi and her assistant, Shakira are really good about that; being patient, firm and encouraging without pushing him too far to traumatize him. At first all he could do was simple mouth x-rays and teeth cleaning and even with that he was terrified but I kept taking him back every six months so he can get used to it. It's really a collaborative effort. Here we are now a few years later (he is about to be nine now) and he is doing full mouth x-rays, cleanings and the reason for this review primarily is because he had his first procedure today where he required a few extractions. I never thought he would be able to get through something like that including taking oral sedation (not completely out) and laughing gas. Shakira wrapped him up "like a burrito" and he was completely fine with it because he has built trust with her over the years and Shakira talked him through every step with very little intervention on my part which is HUGE. She is so good at her job. When everything was ready, Dr. Sharafi was super QUICK and EFFICIENT and we were done. I was very pleased with today and the milestone we accomplished. I am relieved that we can get my son who is on the autism spectrum to get through some dental work and do preventative care rather than letting it get so bad and have to completely put him out again to work on his mouth. I will agree with some prior reviews that over the years Dr. Sharafi has recommended some things I found questionable but as parents we need to ask the right questions to understand and she would always answer my questions without issues. I pretty much always needed time to think them over and do some research and they never had a problem with that and just saw us again in six months if I declined treatment. Altogether, if you are looking for professionalism and patience- I recommend Dr. Sharafi's office. Her dental assistant, Shakira is just awesome to your kids and to you. And if you decide that any treatment recommended is necessary and that your child is ready for it, you can trust that Dr. Sharafi will get it done efficiently and make the experience as best as possible with Shakira by her side!

Unfortunately, both he and I have been sick, throwing up, and not feeling well, so I needed to cancel and reschedule the appointment. I called today at 4:51 PM, and the woman who answered the phone already sounded stressed and was sighing while asking for my son's information. She said things like, "Ugh, okay... ugh, I can't hear you--did you say June?" when I had clearly said two. Her tone was irritated and upset from the start. While I understand people have stressful days, the interaction felt unprofessional. She then told me, in a very rude and demanding tone, "I'm going to need you to give me a reason why you're canceling, because we have a 48-hour cancellation window and you're calling at the end of the day, and I don't have anyone to fill that spot for the doctor." I was taken aback, as I was simply trying to reschedule. I explained politely that we have been sick and that I didn't feel it was appropriate to come into the office while we've been throwing up. She responded with, "Well, I don't see any previous cancellations, so I'll cancel it," which felt as though she was implying that if I had canceled before, this appointment might not have been allowed or I would be penalized. Despite this, I remained friendly and thanked her. She told me I could call back once we felt better and then abruptly hung up without any response. I'm not sure whether this behavior reflects the employee herself or the pressure placed on her by management, but either way, it's unacceptable. I don't want to do business with people who are rude to their customers, nor with a company that creates an environment where employees feel it's okay, or necessary to speak to patients this way. A 48-hour cancellation policy is a large window for customers, and it is not my responsibility as a parent or patient to fill a doctor's schedule, especially when illness is involved. I can't help that my child and I are sick. This experience cost you a loyal customer. I also will not be recommending this office to anyone.
