I recently finished my Invisalign treatment at the Escondido office of Hidden Valley Orthodontics and it was a very positive experience. Dr. Fortney is extremely knowledgeable and professional. She explained every step of the treatment clearly and answered all my questions patiently. I felt my treatment plan was tailored specifically to my needs and she took the time to ensure that it aligned with my goals. She even adjusted the plan when I brought up a concern. Her staff is incredible! The orthodontic assistants are caring, the front office staff and Treatment Coordinator, Shari Crawford, are efficient and everyone smiles and treats you like you're the most important person in the room. Staff were very responsive and easy to reach if I had any questions or concerns. Unfortunately I got braces here and now have to get Invisalign decades later. Furthermore, they left me with an edge to edge bite instead of an overbite. this may have taken years off the life of my teeth, specifically my front teeth. nice office but would not recommend. read more

They explained everything from the beginning and through out the whole process and made the adventure very easy! The staff always has a smile on their face and the facility is always so clean. Unfortunately, as much as I tried to compromise with them, I did not have a good experience and won't recommend them. I am not happy with the final result of my Invisalign treatment because despite very specific instructions, they took it upon themselves to build in a movement to my retainer that smashes my front and bottom teeth together. I was actually close to signing off at the prior step but wasn't happy with one of my lower teeth, but instead of simply moving it, their solution was to move my upper teeth back, which actually caused a small amount of re-crowding in my lower teeth. After speaking with Invisalign I believe that they cut corners by building movement into retainers, which are only supposed to retain, and that they are actually in breach of our contract because I never signed off on my treatment and I was sold a full 5 year treatment plan. read more

I originally got braces when I was 20 and of course didn't wear a retainer after. 12 years later I decided to try a "at home" treatment and wasn't happy. I found HVO after meeting with another office and they wanted to rush treatment and even the consult with them was rushed. I met with Dr. Fortney a few days later and she explained a lot of my issues with the "at home" and why I wasn't happy but also the damage it was doing to my gums. Now I'm 5 months in and seeing differences. My 18 year old is also in treatment and likes coming in. Definitely recommend them to anyone looking for an honest Dr. Who will actually point stuff out then HVO is the place. The office staff has been sooo nice as well. read more

So, I received my braces later in life than most--19. It's not an experience anyone WANTS to go through as an adult, however I was lucky enough to come to Hidden Valley Ortho. Dr. Fortney was, and is, an amazing doctor who cares about all her patients. On top of her dedication to the care of her patients, her abilities are superior to all I've seen. With her nurturing touch, never once have I felt pain--and that goes for all her team. From the assistants, to the office, there isn't a single person in the facility who doesn't go ABOVE AND BEYOND to ensure that there is no monitory, emotional, or physical pain. My initial experiences with HVO were nothing less than spectacular, and that notion has stuck with me since. Years later I had an accident post correction that resulted in some dental cosmetic surgery, which meant that my aligners(retainers) would no longer fit. I went many years without a retainer, which added to said accident, meant that my teeth shifted slightly out of their perfect place. Life happens, and it took nearly 5 years for me to get back into the office for attain new retainers that would match my surgically repaired teeth. Being in a pinch for time, and appearance for my quickly approaching wedding, Linda at HVO was beyond helpful. I was able to get my smile back to perfect, just in time for my wedding, and just like before, no pain in any manner. I would do anything for these folks, as they have done everything for me. My brother got his braces here from Dr Fortney and Tracy helped us out. Everything from his scan and photos were great. They are very efficient and being timely is a huge goal for them. They have always had us in and out on time which is huge for us. No waiting like western dental providers for hours. Disappointed in how I was treated the other day. My ex actively tries to keep me from anything that involves our daughter and he told the staff beforehand that I was aggressive and cause conflict however that's all hearsay. He demands that his girlfriend be involved in all matters and that's not the problem, the problem is our 11 year old daughter was extremely uncomfortable. The girlfriend had her body completely turned towards me, laughing and clearly trying to provoke me IN FRONT OF OUR DAUGHTER, while in the lobby. I asked privately if only mom and dad can come in for any procedures which the staff said they didn't want to get involved. Dad comes up and starts recording me and the staff already had prejudice of me from what he has told them but i kindly asked for our daughters sake that we not bring partners, grandparents etc..Im sure they have control in delegating how many people can enter the procedure area. My daughter was laying there with her mouth wide open while me(mom), dad and his girlfriend AND his mother were there. They could have prevented my daughter from that embarrassment and just allow the legal guardians to accompany her. However my biggest problem was when we were getting ready to leave the entire staff was at the front desk STARING at us. My daughter was mortified and I too was embarrassed because I, in no way, was rude or raising my voice. I hope the next time we come in I am not treated like a criminal. We share joint legal custody and I feel like the staff could have respected that better. This could also be a HIPAA violation as they did not protect my daughter's information from the 3rd parties. read more

I am so happy with my experience at HVO so far. Every single one of the staff here are amazing. The office itself is clean and high tech with top of the line equipment. Teeth are permanent and I don't want to mess around with cheap equipment and doctors who won't invest in their own practice, I want them to be amazing so I expect amazing technology and HVO delivers! I am just wrapping up my first round of Invisalign trays. I went today to have a new scan and hopefully my final trays ordered to fine tune the movement of my teeth. Dr. Fortney is so patient and has no problem taking the time to answer any questions I have. She's open and honest about treatment, what I can expect and is completely comfortable hearing what I want and expect. I've had multiple appointments here and every time every person I encounter is kind. From the front desk to the financial people, the marketing people, the treatment people, literally everyone! Shout out to Linda & Donna who are both incredible! If you have the chance to work with either of them one on one do so! They really help make the process so much easier. Can we say Over Priced?!? I took my daughter in for a consultation. Prior to my consultation they asked me to give them our insurance information. So I did. Funny, when I go in for our consultation and review with my daughter after getting the grand tour of their luxurious spaces, I was told that we would pay exactly what the insurance would cover for braces. $2400 we pay, $2400 for the braces, a direct match!! That sparked a red flag for me. So, I went to another orthodontist whom I gave high reviews and he quoted a more reasonable price. Over $1000 less. Why? Because he doesn't offer video games for the kids and has such high overhead as this place. A friend of mine whom I warned but was wooed by the video gaming room and the beautiful doctors, unfortunately was sold on Invisalign for her 12 year old son who is not mature enough nor does he require them. They gave her the same sales tactic. Matching whatever the insurance would cover. However, they said for $500 more he could have Invisalign, so they believed the sales ladies, I mean Doctors and went for it. They regret it, they could have saved so much money going with another Orthodontist. They plan to send there second child to my Orthodontist. read more

Happy to say I chose HVO for my orthodontic treatment. I just got my braces off in October :D!!! The entire staff is so kind, and they work to be as efficient as possible. I spent hardly any time at all in the waiting room. But even if you do, they have a little game room for the kids, some computers for the tweens, coffee for the parents, and a brushing/flossing station just in case you didn't have time to do so before coming in. The whole place is really nice, the patient chairs are super comfy. The patient area is open- no separate rooms for each patient- which I found a lot less intimidating. There's also a movie playing on tv screens above the patient seat. They have contests, drawings, and rewards for showing up to appts on time and stuff like that. They usually keep appointments as short as possible, whereas Western Dental, for example, would have you wait an hour or 2 in the waiting room, and then another hour in the seat just waiting for the doctor to come in and do a procedure that takes half an hour at most -_- HVO seemed too good to be true. You check in, sit and wait a little, they call you in, do what they need to do, and you're off. (Except very busy days/times, which are usually later in the afternoon, but even then, they never beat Western Dental's inefficiency). On your way out of an appt. you go to the front desk to schedule the next one. they give you a print out reminder that includes the approximate length for your next visit- they're usually pretty accurate. I felt welcomed from the first day consultation, and I really got the feeling that they love what they do and that they're honest about any costs & needed treatment. Before I got my braces my teeth were extremely crowded, and sometimes my jaw would lock and I couldn't close it. Ever since I started treatment with them, that hasn't been a problem at all. I can smile confidently and I'm not afraid of my jaw locking anymore. I have a few friends who have gotten their braces elsewhere and their orthodontists have proven inefficient and costly. The time estimate for my treatment was 24 months. It ended up taking a couple months longer, but my friends, who got their braces elsewhere long before I did, are still wearing theirs :o In short, Dr. Fortney and the entire staff know what they're doing!! read more

The Hidden Valley team is awesome! My eleven year old son has been a patient of Dr. Fortney for about a year. She is great with the kids, explains treatments well, and runs a top-notch office. Her staff is friendly and welcoming. The office is comfortable and fun for the younger siblings who are waiting. There are two game rooms, a coffee station, free WIFI and lots of fun incentive programs/contests. I appreciated being able to work with them on a comfortable payment plan for my son's treatments. My younger son, who just turned 7, will get his first check up there this year. Hidden Valley Orthodontics treated me well until I was unable to meet their needs. There was a drastic misconception about being able to take my wisdom teeth out. There should have been a much more profound understanding that I could not have a surgery that compromises my ability to make their job easier, and they could have put my treatment on hold or at least have patience so I could get the procedure performed. Hidden Valley made me feel as if I was in a lower socioeconomic status that was completely demeaning. My argument stems from when Dr. Fortney assessed my situation, she stated that my treatment was over instead of being able to try to provide patient-centered care. I understand the challenges of financial availability but there is a lack of empathy to listen instead of sitting down with a patient for less than a minute and completely deviate from caring for a patient. As someone who works as a NURSE, I do not recommend this place since they worry more about themselves than the person who lies down to depend on their specialty. I have not received the $6000 smile I deserve. read more

The entire staff at HVO is so friendly and sincere! They really get to know and care for their patients. I have 3 kids, who are all at different points in their various treatments. Whenever my son with braces needed special care or a last minute appointment, they were able to squeeze us in as much as possible. Even if the siblings weren't being seen, they wouldn't mind tagging along for the appointment because of the movies that are always playing or all of the video game options they have for kids there. I enjoy treating myself to a yummy cup of coffee whenever we have morning appointments too! My oldest son recently got his braces off, and we both couldn't be happier!!! This place was highly recommended by our children's dentist. The place was easy to find and it's very clean and somewhat friendly. They have 3 waiting rooms with games (xbox, ps4, ipads) a charging station and a state of the art restroom facility. The reason I'm giving them 3 stars is due to their scheduling and "consulting" issues. My wife scheduled a consultation on a Tuesday and they set my daughter up for the following Monday (6 days). After the "consultation" we are now spending over $3,000 due to my daughter needing extensive work done, which I have no problem with. So during a "consultation" visit they proceeded to put spacers in my daughters mouth to start the initial process. Well low and behold my 7 year old was able to lose 2 of the spacers the same day she got them, so we did what anyone else would do, we called to have them put new ones in... we called on the same Monday and now they weren't able to get to her for 2 weeks... wait? What?! How can you schedule me for a "consultation" in 6 days then 2 weeks after you've already lured us in to have work done everything will now take 2 weeks???!!! Moral of the story, this place is very accommodating on your first initial visit, then after they've sucked you in to have work done, and you're at their mercy for time and energy they all of a sudden can't accommodate as routinely as before. Called to get an initial appointment for my two kids who already have braces but need to transfer from another orthodontist because we moved. Asked what type of braces they use (because that was an issue with another orthodontist) Was told "I don't know what kind of braces they use". Not friendly, nor helpful. Started out well but not so great after my daughters most recent visit. They were late with her appointment and rushed the work. Subsequently, portions of my daughter's braces fell off and I thought there may be a chocking hazard. Staff was dismissive of my health and safety concerns so I thought I would seek a second opinion. HVO agreed to provide a copy of my daughters file last week but said they had no record of my request when I asked about it today. I am not impressed with their operation. It appears to be a get-them-in and get-them-out assembly line type production. Quality of care dose not seem to be a priority. They are polite, but I doubt their sincerity. read more

SON'S BEHAVIOR was horrible AT SCHOOL & I was at a loss. Our dentist referred us to Dr. Fortney due to my son's teeth grinding, snoring & mouth breathing! WOW!! He was assessed (free consult & panaramic x-rays to see airway, nasal passages, etc.) & fitted him with a retainer to help with his tooth grinding- helping him sleep better (getting real rest at night). Guess what?? He was doing better with his behavior at school because he was well rested!! Never would I have thought tooth grinding at night was my son's reason for poor behavior at school( he was just so tired from not sleeping)! This treatment has changed his life; Ours!! He's a different child now & we are grateful Dr. Fortney is more than just an orthodontist! She has taken so many other courses that reach beyond braces!! I just got my braces at Hidden Valley Orthodontics one month ago. My family has had orthodontic treatment in the recent past with different orthodontists in the north county area. So, I did not blindly pick them. However, it was the treatment from the staff that what made up my mind. Yet, the reason I write this review is that I have an example of the great service they provide. I was out of town on business during the second week I had my braces. I returned home briefly on at 4 pm on a Sunday and had to turn and go back out if town the next morning. I had a wire poking me in the back of my mouth and remembered the said there was someone on-call if I was I extreme discomfort, and I was! I called their number and the message gave me another number to call for the on-call assistant. I told the assistant my situation and she met me at the office at 5 pm, an hour later on a Sunday, and fixed my wire. What a relief! What Service! I've popped back in three more times due in the past two weeks for other little issues and had such a great experience. We never received that type of service with my husband's braces or my sister's braces, who both had them as adults a few years back. My 8 year old son is next for braces, and we are defiantly going to Hidden Valley Orthodontics. read more
