Our questions about the area, restaurants, etc. were answered and he said he was only a text away if we had any questions at all. This was impressive to me and I was grateful. The sunsets were gorgeous and we were happy we brought our camera. We did not use the pool or the many hammocks and chairs on the grounds but we're happy they were there. We enjoyed the dock and porch area just outside our room and we are looking forward to coming back next year! This resort does not charge for parking or a resort fee which we appreciated and is located 10 to 15 minutes from a Publix in case you would like to purchase items for the kitchen. CVS is near the Publix too. This is a wonderful old style Florida resort that doesn't nickel and dime you for everything. We already have reservations for next year!

When we arrived, we were welcomed in the lobby with a glass of champagne, which was a lovely touch. I also liked that valet parking is included in the hotel fee. You can simply drop off your car keys, and the staff will park your car for you. Self-parking is also available if you prefer. One of my favorite areas was the fireplace in the front ocean-view area. At night, there was live music, making it a wonderful place to sit, relax, and enjoy the view. The resort has a lot to offer, including oceanfront family pools, an adult relaxation pool, a swimming beach with loungers, kayaks, paddle boards, fishing rods and reels, and a beautiful 525-foot fishing pier for catch-and-release fishing. There is also a 9 hole executive golf course, tennis courts, pickleball courts, sports courts, and beach cruiser bicycles. Families can enjoy the kids' game room and Camp Cheeca, which provide fun activities for children. Adults can relax at the full-service spa, fitness center, sunrise yoga classes, and water aerobics. The resort also offers Wi-Fi, concierge service, in-room coffee and tea, bottled water, EV charging stations, and shuttle service within 2 miles. Some areas of the resort could use a little restoration. For example, the jacuzzi next to the family pool looked like it needed some maintenance. We also noticed a slight seaweed smell near the beach, but this may be normal during the high season and can depend on the weather and ocean conditions. On our first day, we ate at Nikai, the resort's sushi restaurant. Guests can sit outside and enjoy the view, which I really liked. There is also indoor seating, but the restaurant is fairly small. We ordered the Salmon Aburi, Dragon Roll, and Matsuri Roll. The outdoor seating was definitely my favorite because we could enjoy our food and drinks while taking in the beautiful surroundings. Cheeca Lodge has several dining options besides sushi. Atlantic's Edge offers oceanfront dining with beautiful views and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mia Cucina serves Italian style dishes in a relaxed setting. Tiki Bar and 25South are great places for drinks, snacks, and casual meals. Guests can also visit Morada Bay Beach Café for a relaxed beachside dining experience. Pierre's is another popular nearby restaurant, known for its elegant atmosphere and beautiful waterfront setting. At night, the front ocean view fireplace area with live music is a great place to enjoy a drink after dinner. The combination of the fire, ocean view, and music creates a very relaxing atmosphere. Having so many restaurants and dining choices nearby makes the resort very convenient. You can enjoy sushi, Italian food, casual drinks, beachside meals, or a more elegant dinner without traveling far. The resort has a beautiful Florida Keys atmosphere and offers plenty of activities for both adults and families. I especially liked having so many options in one place, including the beach, pools, water activities, fishing, golf, tennis, pickleball, spa, restaurants, live music, and our comfortable ocean-view room with a fireplace. It is a great place to relax, enjoy the water, dine, and have everything conveniently located at the resort. The champagne welcome, included valet parking, ocean views, fireplace, and live music were also nice extra touches. Although a few areas need a little restoration and there was a slight seaweed smell during the high season, these issues did not ruin our stay. First off, the B&B is one of a kind. Thorn has assembled an incredible array of artifacts from her travels around the world, everything from original Tiffany lamps to Balinese furniture to Vegas showgirl outfits. It's like your grandma's house, if you had the world's coolest grandma. Be sure to poke around the main house and ask to see the other rooms, if they're unoccupied. The caretakers will be happy to oblige, and they know plenty of stories behind the objects. Back to the Secret Garden Room. The pictures on the website do it justice. That headboard is incredible. The walls are all almost all glass, opening to let in the fresh Florida air. It's very secluded from the rest of the house, with a private patio for breakfast. The semi-outdoor shower is fun but does tend to get the bathroom floor very wet. The fridge is handy if you visit the local restaurants and have leftovers (you will). The breakfasts were good, and it was nice to enjoy them privately. The caretakers schedule a time tor coffee service, and give you about a half hour to sip it and relax before bringing breakfast. The caretakers will give you a pass to the town beach, which is about 15 minute walk, and is a quiet alternative to any of the busy public beaches on the Keys. The house features a small unheated pool, but it didn't get much action in February. (We used it happily, as the temperature was about as good as it gets in Boston.) It also has a small roof deck, though we didn't spend much time there.

The Bungalows felt like a piece of Paradise. When you first…read morearrive, you are greeted by valet staff. Parking is free if you brought a car. We chose to rent and drive from the airport because we had a trip to Key West planned. It's about a 90 minute drive from the airport so, an Uber would have been pretty costly. The valet takes care of your luggage and places it on a golf cart while you check in. The check in process took about 10 min. The front desk staff wasn't super friendly but they weren't rude either. They are supposed to offer you a drink, but we were not offered one by our receptionist while the couple next to us were offered one. No biggie. One thing to note: when you book, 50% is due. Then the other 50% is due thirty days prior to your arrival if you switch your source of payment, they charge you 10%. That same card has do be used for gratuity or add ons. Keep this in mind when you plan. Also, they put a $100/day hold on your card when you check in. After check in, the valet takes you on a tour of the property and then brings you to your room. You'll want to have cash for gratuity for the valet. The Bungalows themselves are gorgeous and offer an outdoor area and outdoor shower. I don't think the beach view bungalows are worth the upgrade. After that, you're on your own for the most part. They schedule your dinner, but other than Bogie and Bacall, they are pretty flexible. Fish Tales is the main restaurant. They offer a four course meal. The food was great. I wouldn't say "amazing" but really well done. The service is impeccable. This is an all inclusive bur gratuity isn't included. This was annoying and probably my biggest complaint. At the end of your meal you are handed a check of all you consumed with a recommend range of gratuity. You put in what you want to leave and sign it and leave. The issue is, it's hard to keep track of how much you're spending. So if you're on a budget, that can be a problem. At night everyone gathers around the tiki bar to enjoy the entertainment. There is only one bad and it fills quickly. The bartenders are also filling drink orders for the pool, and in some situations, Sea Seniors next door. You can also order food at the tiki bar if you choose. It's basic bar food and pizza but quite delicious. There is live entertainment daily from 11-11. There was trivia one night, and karaoke another. But there were no real events offered. In the mornings everyone heads to Fishtales for breakfast. There is a good variety of choices, including a buffet. They do not change it up at all though. So it can get a little boring day after day. They also have a mimosa and bloody Mary self serve bar. Pro tip, bring your own yeti and take two plastic cups of minosa and some ice and put them in your yeti for the pool. There are no drinks served until 11 am at the pool which was pretty odd in my opinion. The tiki bar also doesn't open until 11. It was off season but I will say that the pool didn't really get busy. There are two pools. Ok is a zen pool with little cabana beds. It's more quiet there but the main pool was described as the party pool and he was really chill too. There are about 12 pairs of lounge chairs and umbrellas and two big cabanas with couches. It didn't seem like there would be enough but it ended up to be plenty. We w They have servers come around the pool but it takes quite a bit to get your drinks so pack your patience. They also give you a bill at the end with what you ordered and suggested gratuity. It was easy to forget and just leave so I hated this process. I would have rather been charged a daily gratuity to be split between the staff but that's not what they want to do. Bogie and Bacalls: you get a free night there if you stay for more than 4 days. If you don't it's $300 plus gratuity. This was their high end restaurant and it wand spectacular! You get a ton of food and premium drinks. Expect to tip about $100 here. There is an indoor bar/speakeasy called Hemingways. This is not included in your stay. It's premium cocktails and liquor. There is also the "Family Room" which is a giant indoor/outdoor game room. There are no servers there. If you have a yeti, you could grab a few drinks from the tiki bar and keep it cold. There is a huge TV so we were able to watch the USA game on it with a few other guests. I chose to get a massage. It's a beautiful area of the park but there's no way that 50 min massage was worth $300 + 22% gratuity. They offer water activities. No one was using them. There are some other ads ons but very few guests chose to do them. Overall this is a wonderful, very chill spot and I can see why many guest come back year after year. I wish there were more dining and bar options, and more events offered. The cost was pretty high for what they offer. But we had an amazing time and I'm so glad we did it!

June 11 - Arrival, Villa 7083 Upon entering our original…read morevilla, it was immediately obvious that the unit had not been properly cleaned or maintained. Among the issues we encountered: Cockroaches running on the walls Large dark brown stains throughout the carpets, including significant stains in the master bedroom and on the staircase Cracked tile on the flooring and carpet that clearly hadn't been vacuumed Dirty men's socks left behind in the closet of one of the bedrooms A strong mildew odor throughout the villa Water-damaged furniture in the master bedroom that appeared to be rotting from prolonged moisture exposure. I immediately reported the issues to the front desk. What was equally disappointing was the response. The manager on duty never came out to speak with me personally. Instead, the front desk employee repeatedly walked to the back to consult with management and returned to tell me there was nothing that could be done because the resort was sold out. As a result, my family was forced to spend the night in a villa that should never have been assigned to guests in the first place. I have photographs and video documenting every issue described above. June 12 - Second Villa, Same Problems 7086 The next day, we moved four adults, two children, luggage, and approximately $450 worth of groceries into Villa 7086. Shortly after settling in, we discovered the air conditioning was not functioning properly. Maintenance responded and measured the villa at 78 degrees. The temperature later climbed to 84 degrees. We were told management would be notified and the issue addressed. That never happened. On top of that my son had bugs crawling all over his bed. Comes to find out they were termites! Not, one or two but dozens - in the pillow cases, sheets, etc. The only reason this issue ultimately received attention was because later that day the Director of Engineering Danielle happened to ask how our stay was going while I was in the gift shop. Once she heard what had occurred, she immediately stepped in and began working to resolve the situation. Danielle deserves recognition because she was one of the ONLY employees during our stay who demonstrated urgency, professionalism, and a genuine concern for guest satisfaction. Later that day, Danielle arranged for us to move yet again--this time into two connecting rooms in the main hotel while also securing a third room for my brother and his girlfriend. When I asked what we should do with the groceries and supplies, she advised us to leave them in the villa and stated that the villa would be taken out of service until the air conditioning could be repaired. At that point, we had spent a significant portion of our vacation packing, unpacking, relocating belongings, coordinating food storage, and dealing with issues. June 13 - More Service Failures The next morning I took my daughter to breakfast at the café. We sat for approximately 10-15 minutes while multiple employees stood nearby talking among themselves. No one greeted us. No one acknowledged us. No one offered menus. No one checked on us. Employees walked by our table repeatedly and even cleared nearby tables while completely ignoring us. Eventually, I got up and left. A female staff member who was cleaning a nearby table noticed me leaving and hurried over to ask me to stay, but by that point we had already waited far too long without any service. I am confident this entire interaction would be visible on the café's surveillance footage. The café provided some of the worst service we experienced during our stay. The staff the works there barely speaks English and had zero sense of urgency to serve guests. Additional Concerns I also learned that my brother was repeatedly approached by staff members in the room that Danielle had assigned to him and questioned about him, receiving knocks on his door multiple days during the trip even when the Do Not Disturb sign was displayed. While I understand security procedures, repeatedly questioning a registered guest made him feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. What was especially troubling was that a male staff member knocked on his door and asked, "Are you supposed to even be in this room?" That type of interaction is completely inappropriate. Treating a paying guest. Treating a paying guest as though they don't belong there are accusing them of basically being a squatter was embarrassing, disrespectful, and is 100% classified as harassment vs. hospitality. Perhaps the most disappointing part of this experience is that Danielle informed me that the GM Bob L. would be contacting me directly to set up a in person meeting regarding the issues we experienced. When that didn't happen she said he would call me- he never did. When that didn't happen I emailed him 3x and never got a response.

The property shines in many areas, especially if you're looking for a relaxing resort atmosphere with beautiful water views, pet-friendly accommodations, and a fun, laid-back vibe. That said, there were a few frustrating misses that held this back from being a 5-star stay. THE GOOD * Beautiful beach & lagoon area - Easily one of the highlights of the property. Relaxing, scenic, and fun overall. * Salt + Ash is a must - Exceptional food and one of the best dining experiences on property. The wine selection was top-notch and the beef tenderloin was outstanding. Easily our favorite restaurant. * Incredible staff throughout the resort - Bell staff, valet, oceanfront servers, housekeeping crew, and pool staff were consistently kind, personable, and welcoming. * Staff who go above and beyond - Huge shoutout to Joshua, who helped us secure chairs near the adult pool, and Danielle, who took time to chat, swap stories, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Hospitality like that sticks with you. * Captain's Suite is worth the upgrade - Strongly recommend spending the extra money if budget allows. The added space made the trip: dining area, living room, fridge, two toilets, large balcony, and beautiful water views overlooking the pool and lagoon. It elevated the experience tremendously. * Extremely pet & service animal friendly - This place deserves serious praise here. Few resorts feel this comfortable and accommodating for travelers with animals. Staff were respectful, welcoming, and there were no awkward restrictions or friction. If you travel with pets or service animals, this property stands out. * Tiki Grill - Great atmosphere for drinks and relaxing. Perfect for unwinding poolside. * 20% off dining on property helped offset costs - Appreciated perk considering resort pricing. THE NOT-SO-GOOD * Front desk communication & housekeeping logistics need work - This was our biggest frustration. We stayed in a Captain's Suite and requested both a room cleaning and balcony cleaning (bird droppings had accumulated on the balcony) around 10 AM. The front desk wrote down our room number and assured us it would be taken care of. When we returned around 3:30 PM, neither had been done. By after 4:30 PM, the room had finally been cleaned, but the balcony still hadn't been addressed. When you pay extra for a premium room and oceanfront balcony experience, this feels disappointing. There also seems to be a mild pigeon issue, and balcony maintenance should really be part of a regular checklist. Some simple bird deterrents or more proactive cleaning would go a long way. * Concierge/text support didn't materialize - We were told we'd receive a concierge-style welcome text shortly after check-in for support/questions. Unfortunately, we never received it. To make matters worse, the room phones didn't work, meaning concerns had to be addressed in person while waiting in the front desk line. * Food quality was inconsistent - Salt + Ash was phenomenal, but not every dining experience matched that standard. Tiki Grill: Great drinks and atmosphere, but the food was forgettable, under-seasoned, and not something we'd order again. Fine in a pinch. Angler & Ale: Beautiful waterfront views and exceptional staff, but the food leaned heavily fried and felt more like average bar food than resort dining. Fish and chips were disappointing. Oddly enough, the banana split ended up redeeming the meal. * Convenience store prices were shocking - Convenient? Yes. Affordable? Not even close. A few sodas and snacks escalated to $60+ surprisingly fast. I expected a slightly easier option versus restaurant pricing, but the markup felt extreme. * Parking costs add up - Valet runs about $40/day and self-parking is roughly half, but expect around a 10-minute walk with luggage, making valet feel almost mandatory. FINAL THOUGHTS Despite some communication breakdowns and uneven food experiences, we truly enjoyed our stay. The Captain's Suite, peaceful balcony views, fire pit at night, lagoon, beach access, pickleball, and pet-friendly atmosphere made for memorable moments. My advice: upgrade to the Captain's Suite, eat at Salt + Ash (seriously, get the beef tenderloin), enjoy the tiki drinks, walk the grounds, soak in the sun, and be selective about food choices elsewhere. Use the convenience store sparingly. Fix the housekeeping/communication gaps, improve how guests can raise concerns without standing in line, and clean those balconies consistently--and this place could easily become a 5-star destination.

I booked a cabin at Bonefish Bay in Marathon through Booking.com for August 1-5, 2026. Check-in was…read moresupposed to be at 3:00 PM. I arrived at 4:05 PM and the cabin was disgusting. The sink was full of dirty dishes with food still on them. The beds were unmade and dirty. I marked the sheets with black dots so I could later confirm whether they actually cleaned them. Staff apologized and said they had "forgotten" to clean the room. They called me around 7:00-7:30 PM claiming it was ready. When I returned, they had simply put the same filthy dishes away in the cabinets -- still covered in food. The beds had been "remade" using the exact same marked sheets from the previous guest. They never changed them. When I confronted the woman in the office, she walked me back to the cabin and told me it was the guest's responsibility to wash the dishes, so they just put the dirty ones away. She then sniffed the bed cover and said it "smelled clean." She admitted they do not change the covers after every guest -- only when they "smell dirty." She was extremely rude and offered only a 15% discount. She refused any refund even though I had never spent a single night there, never connected to their Wi-Fi, and only stepped foot in a filthy cabin. Thank God I booked through Booking.com. They issued a full credit and covered my stay at another resort down the road. This place is a health hazard. I will be reporting them to the Florida Department of Health and the appropriate business regulatory agencies. Do not stay here. The conditions are completely unacceptable.
