The cook prepared a 5 star spread for us for breakfast featuring his favourite "teddy bear" fruit sculpture. What a treat!! Enjoyed the back porch with view of garden which supports a number of species of migrating and local species of birds. An orchestra awaited us every morning! The owners are a lovely African American couple and their decor is exquisite (they have an amazing coffee table in the living room area). When we mentioned we were sort of celebrating my wife's birthday, they upgraded us to a larger room. We enjoyed the grounds and even walked to downtown Durham for dinner. The neighborhood was mostly quiet, excepting a few sirens that you hear in any city and the sleep quality was good. We helped ourselves to some herbal tea and sat out on their porch at night. Breakfast next morning was delicious and we had a nice conversation with the husband. All in all, a lovely experience.

The bathroom is a step into the past but with a modern shower head and water with good pressure (a great balance of old and new).  I particularly loved the led nightlights.  The outdoors has been designed very well. Custom metalwork, firepits, swings, and bocce ball with high and low lights, make it enticing day and night.  The inn keepers were warm and friendly throughout our visit. We really enjoyed getting to know them over our 5 star breakfasts. And if you have a chance to sample the 24 hour cookies and cake slices, do it! The coconut cookies were addicting!  I have severe allergies and our hosts were very careful with food prep, which I really appreciated. Even with the restrictions the food was amazing. The zucchini pecan waffles were melt-in-the-mouth delicious.  I 100% recommend the B&B and hope to visit again!

There were periods of nearly a month where messages and questions went unanswered, making it difficult to plan and finalize important event details. What was even more disappointing was that several services were offered, agreed upon, and paid for but were never actually provided. Despite this, no refund or compensation was offered for the services that were not fulfilled. Instead of acknowledging the issue and taking responsibility, it often felt like the situation was being reframed in a way that minimized the venue's role in the shortcomings rather than addressing the fact that paid services had not been delivered. During the event itself, the host was consistently checking in, but much of the interaction focused on cleanup expectations, post-party responsibilities, and other reprimands before guests had even been given the opportunity to begin cleaning. Being repeatedly reminded about cleanup while the event was still taking place created an uncomfortable atmosphere and made it difficult to fully enjoy the celebration. The venue itself has potential, but the combination of poor communication, failure to provide services that were paid for, lack of reimbursement for those missing services, and an unnecessarily overbearing approach during the event significantly impacted our overall experience. I would strongly encourage future customers to get all promised services, responsibilities, and expectations clearly documented in writing and to keep records of all communications throughout the planning process.

Weeks in advance, we asked the owner, "How long can we have the reception?" to which she responded we could have it as long as we wanted because it's the "saddest thing in the world" to cut someone's wedding reception short. Well surprise, at 9pm the night of the reception, while dancing outdoors, the owner informed my mother that we had to turn off the music due to an Apex noise ordinance. We later found out from Apex police there is no such ordinance (my dad called). Also, this inn is on a huge piece of land, and the music was not that loud. When we asked to move the dancing inside the inn, the owner told an elaborate story of how a honeymooning couple had been dropped off, checked in, and they immediately went upstairs to their room. Of course this sounded fishy; why would a honeymooning couple be dropped off at an inn in the middle of nowhere while a wedding reception was going on? We found out later there was no such couple, but the owner planned ahead with her story and had even put a "do not disturb" sign on the "couple's" door. We should've been told upfront, when we initially asked, that we could have the reception until 9pm instead of being manipulated by such unethical tactics. We could've planned things better. It still doesn't make sense to us. If the innkeeper wanted to go home for the night, aren't there nicer ways to plan this ahead instead of not being truthful about multiple things? It was embarrassing to skip over many planned songs and suddenly announce that we had to play our last song. Our guests (and we) were shortchanged. They traveled from across the country to be with us, and our time with them was awkwardly cut short. I want to warn future brides to get every detail regarding your wedding planning in writing so things like this don't happen to you; we were too trusting. Also, some food served at dinner was tasteless and unacceptable. Six years later I still remember that dry beef. Future brides, you would be wise to take your business elsewhere!! Sure, the suite we stayed in was comfortable, but how can we recommend a place run in such a manner?

After 20 minutes with no server acknowledgment and no water, we watched a party be seated after us and then served right away. No apology, no explanation. This was not acceptable and we ended up leaving. I wanted to love this experience and support a historic local business, but being overlooked with no acknowledgment was very disappointing, poor customer service. Pick from a variety of private buildings at different price points (though all are pricey compared to typical hotels) and enjoy peace and quiet while secluded in your private abode. I stayed with my wife at a deluxe cabin. We got in late at night, and with online check-in, we simply went directly into our cabin. The only time we interacted with a staff member was when they brought our breakfast in the morning. Every other interaction is done online or from outside your room. Accommodations are clean and modern. Despite the small space, there was a massive shower, a hot tub placed in the middle of the cabin which faced a huge TV and couch, a dining table, mini-fridge, and plenty of charging ports. The bed is on a second floor, which makes it a bit tricky to get to the bathroom downstairs at night, but Arrowhead thought ahead with stairs that light up automatically at night. The atmosphere both inside and outside our cabin was romantic, with plenty of bird and squirrel feeders to attract cute wildlife. Arrowhead is an expensive but worth it treat for lovers young and old.

The first morning we had a lovely egg and cheese quiche accompanied with little chicken sausages and a fresh cup of coffee/orange juice! The second morning, we had a French toast bake with a different type of sausage, and the third morning we had a scramble egg with asparagus and those little chicken sausages again....which was all delightful!
