We live nearby and have known about this place for a long time but never stayed here. They've been featured in magazines and TV shows so we booked a room on a Friday in February after my wife's birthday. The owners are a lovely African American couple and their decor is exquisite (they have an amazing coffee table in the living room area). When we mentioned we were sort of celebrating my wife's birthday, they upgraded us to a larger room. We enjoyed the grounds and even walked to downtown Durham for dinner. The neighborhood was mostly quiet, excepting a few sirens that you hear in any city and the sleep quality was good. We helped ourselves to some herbal tea and sat out on their porch at night. Breakfast next morning was delicious and we had a nice conversation with the husband. All in all, a lovely experience. read more

May 2025, We recently stayed for a two night stay at the Morehead Manor. The Manor remains a beautiful property, we stayed in a different room this visit, which I will not reveal as we will book it for future stays. All the rooms are beautiful, well appointed, quiet and spotless. Monica and Daniel, the hosts, are wonderful assuring guests are comfortable and answering any and all questions about the area. Delicious seems lacking as a word when describing Monica's breakfasts. They are always wonderful with an eye towards healthy eating. Very highly recommended. read more

The Morehead Manor B&B is timeless, historic elegance. The manor is over 100 years old and historic architectural touches are everywhere from the tile in the restrooms to the wood moldings throughout. The public rooms are lovely with ample seating, and the bedroom (and mattress) were entirely comfortable. The bathroom is a step into the past but with a modern shower head and water with good pressure (a great balance of old and new).  I particularly loved the led nightlights.  The outdoors has been designed very well. Custom metalwork, firepits, swings, and bocce ball with high and low lights, make it enticing day and night.  The inn keepers were warm and friendly throughout our visit. We really enjoyed getting to know them over our 5 star breakfasts. And if you have a chance to sample the 24 hour cookies and cake slices, do it! The coconut cookies were addicting!  I have severe allergies and our hosts were very careful with food prep, which I really appreciated. Even with the restrictions the food was amazing. The zucchini pecan waffles were melt-in-the-mouth delicious.  I 100% recommend the B&B and hope to visit again! read more

Morehead Manor is a beautiful B&B that maintains historical charm inside with a sleek modern feel on the grounds outside. Upon arrival, you take in a bocce ball court, a hammock, a fire pit and simple elegant seating. Once inside, the height and expanse of the foyer leaves a lasting impression. There my wife and I met co-owner Daniel Edwards, a man of multiple talents. Daniel took us on a tour of the house and confirmed he and his wife, co-owner Monica, would accommodate our dietary needs the next morning. True to his word, the next morning we were served a delicious vegan (me) and gluten-free free/ dairy-free (my wife) breakfast. They even sat down with the breakfast group and enjoyed good conversation and each other's company. If you find yourself in Durham, NC, you should make a point to stay at Morehead Manor. My best friend and I had a girl's trip at the Manor. Monica and Daniel are amazing innkeepers!! They made us feel at home with a personal tour and making sure we were comfortable and had recommendations for local activities. The breakfast was delicious and they also have multiple desserts, snacks and beverages. The rooms were comfortable with lots of amenities. The house is full of culture and history. In addition, the grounds have multiple places to rest, swing or just snooze. It's a definite recommendations when you're in the Durham area. read more

The inn is pretty nice and there are quite a few amenities available for guests, including TV with cable and a Fire Stick in a common room, books, board games, snacks, and beverages. I liked the robe, particularly because it was chilly. There was also an electronic guide with information about the inn and local area. However, a few things could have been smoother. 1. I wanted to pack the right items. I reviewed the emailed guide to see if soaps and a hairdryer were included with the room, but I didn't see any mention of this. When I emailed to ask, the innkeeper confirmed they had the items and responded, "This information and other helpful guest info can be found in our guest services guide, that link was sent to you in a text message shortly after your reservation was confirmed." Well, I looked in your guide, and the information was not there. Also, you could have just left off that sentence completely as it can be interpreted as, "Geez, this information was online. You should have seen it." I just wanted an answer to my question, not something that could be seen as a snarky response. Bizarre for someone in the hospitality industry. 2. Upon arriving the innkeeper gave a tour of the facility. Helpful information, but she spoke quickly, like it was rote and she couldn't wait to be done speaking with us. 3. The breakfast sausage was dry and hard. 4. I was not offered an invoice when I checked out. read more

I just visited Durham, N.C., a likeable city with a great bed and breakfast inn at Morehead Manor. Owners Daniel and Monica Edwards make the place warm and elegant with their hospitality and attention to detail. Loved sitting out on one of the swings and admiring the landscape. The Edwards made the stay enjoyable and Daniel even dropped me off at the nearby Amtrak station when I left. We were in town with our daughter for a short trip and decided to stay at a bed and breakfast for the first time. Our room was Eagles Inn. It had high ceilings, beautifully decorated with an in-room bathroom. The snazzy feature there was the seven headed shower. We all slept well and were comfortable. Morehead Manor is a beautiful home. There are many works of art displayed throughout the house including a mural in the Pecan Dining Room. We met one of their two cats, a sweet Siamese. Monica and Daniel were wonderful hosts. The location was great for getting to restaurants and other attractions. Breakfast was lovely. We had an egg casserole with spinach and sweet potato, bacon, fruit, a lemon poppy seed muffin, juice, water and coffee. I wish we could have stayed longer. If you find yourself in Durham, I highly recommend a stay at Morehead Manor. read more

Husband and I have little to no experience with B&B's (this was our first together), but we do have plenty of night-away-experiences. This one was truly one-of-a-kind! One of the reasons we don't usually do B&B's is they usually require a two night minimum. We got lucky as this place let us book one night. (I understand that is not always the case, as it depends on time of year). We did a recent Friday night. From the minute I booked the stay, I felt like a welcome guest. Right away I received a welcoming email from Monica and was asked about any food restrictions. That sure doesn't happen when I book a hotel! TIP: Monica will send you directions. PAY ATTENTION. I did not, and Mapquest steered us very wrong. Found out later she has heard this a LOT. Follow HER directions. (From Tyler's at Tobacco Warehouse area, cross 147 and it's a block and a half away). We had a perfectly delightful stay in the Jasmine room. The room had just recently been painted. It was spotless and had a neat "fireplace" that can exude heat or just light up. (your choice...we did both). The bed itself was comfortable, and cozy (size-wise). They have three other rooms that can accommodate different-size needs. Love that there is a diary-type book that you can write in if so desired. Location is very close to DPAC and Tobacco Warehouse...within walking distance, however it was sooooo cold the night we saw Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, we succumbed to driving the VERY short distance to DPAC. Loved that they have a special kitchen area with cold and hot drinks available at any time for their guests (including cold pitchers of water and soft drinks, plus k-cups). We could (and did) help ourselves. Breakfast was delicious but very very rich. Husband who never does breakfast foods SCARFED it down and ate some of mine. It was apple and mascarpone (I think) stuffed croissant soaked in syrup and butter, with a couple link sausages. Favorite part of our stay was meeting our incredible hosts: Monica and Daniel. We could have talked to them all day. Their story is fascinating and so very uplifting. There is a table in one of the rooms downstairs that they named Lucy. (see pic)...I loved Lucy and on the table was an Oprah book. So fitting as staying here was as cathartic as watching an Oprah show! Only teeny negative was parking was a bit crammed. As someone who travels often, Morehead Manor is by far one if the best places I have ever stayed. My husband and I came for a weekend to celebrate our anniversary. Monica and Daniel made our stay much more magical than we expected. They are both so warm and inviting, we had wonderful conversations and delicious breakfast every morning. While there we also enjoyed an in room couples massage. Saturday morning we had an in room picnic prepared by Monica that was to die for. We stayed in the tiger room which was spacious, comfortable, and very clean. The house is so beautifully decorated and well maintained. It's obvious d that Monica and Daniel love this home and the guest that come are well loved. We hated to leave and are already talking about making another trip. read more

The down home hospitality the you receive as soon as you arrive at the door gets a 5 star rating from me. I've had the opportunity to stay at the Manor on at least 4 occasions and have attended many events there. Monica and Daniel make everyone feel at home. It also puts one at ease that they have a 100% cleanliness rating during the Covid pandemic. Even if you live in Durham and need a getaway, the Manor is a safe and welcoming home away from home. read more

We had a lovely weekend at the Morehead Manor during alumni weekend at Duke. It was our first time staying at a B&B together, though we've done so separately. Coincidentally, it was our wedding anniversary too! Monica and Daniel are so friendly and accommodating and very good at reading social cues- they chat if you need a chat, or they disappear if you look like you want to be alone. The house is beautiful, and we sat on the porch swings and hammock outside and thought it was also magical. We stayed in the Tiger Room, which has a king size bed with a cool iron(?) frame, a comfy chair, a trunk, lots of mirrors, wifi, and no TV. And it has some diary-like books that you can write in, and it's very fun to read what previous guests have written. The perfect getaway. You can also hang out downstairs in the multiple living areas and they have VHS tapes (Titanic anyone?!?!) which we didn't partake in, and lots of magazines and the local paper, which we did. Breakfast was great- a sweet potato quiche with bacon and english muffin the first morning, and pecan-zucchini waffles with plenty of whipped cream and fruit the second day. We could've eaten a little bit more (actually we did, we went to Cocoa Cinnamon and got churros after but they are delicious). The highlight of our stay was a breakfast conversation with Monica and Daniel and another guest. They are incredibly accomplished and thoughtful people, and pillars of the Durham community. Talking to them and spending the weekend in Durham made us really fall in love with the community and city. We look forward to our next stay. read more

It took a bit to write this review because we wanted to make sure our words encompassed how wonderful our stay was.  This was a last minute unplanned trip after our flight to Puerto Rico was cancelled.  We refused to spend our anniversary looking at our three kids and found Morehead Manor.  WHAT A JEWEL!  First, Monica and Daniel, the owners,  are amazing.  Filled with joy, humor, and smiles, they made our stay so memorable.  The whole property provided peace and serenity.  The backyard has the most lush grass.  Stand in it barefoot while closing your eyes.  You will receive the best energy flowing through your body.  We sat on the swings while we drank coffee and tea.  Monica makes the best breakfast.  She's pretty fancy in the kitchen.   Ask Daniel to show you how to play bocce ball on the big court they have.  Enjoy the quiet, in the evening, while sitting at one of the many seating areas they have outside.  If you're not a fan of the outdoors, get cozy in one of the seating rooms inside.  We can't wait to go back with friends and rent out all the rooms.  The whole stay was just wonderful.  Monica and Daniel don't know it, but they are our new framily. read more

Not only is the Manor a great place to relax, when it was time for our group to host sessions and a vendor's market, the carriage house and manor provided the atmosphere we wanted to achieve. I loved our stay at the Morehead Manor! We went for a three-day holiday weekend, and had a very relaxing, pleasant experience. The pictures of the Manor don't do it justice. The first floor is beautifully decorated with lots of history and charm. The owners run a very professional B&B and seemed to have thought of everything. Monica primarily runs the place, and her husband Daniel is a local police officer who pops in and out. Monica made great breakfasts - something different every day - and would chat with us in the morning. She'd give us advice on where to go if we asked, and was around whenever we needed help. The owners were also very accomodating that we needed a very late arrival the night we checked in. We stayed in the Jasmine room, which was charming and had everything we needed. I would have liked to stay in a room with a king sized bed, but those were already checked out. Because the house is old, once or twice the fuse blew while we were blowdrying hair, but the fuse was always fixed quickly. Perhaps a powersurge protector attached to the outlets would have helped, but that is my only suggestion for improving the experience. In short, I highly recommend staying here. The owners are very professional and personable, and keep the Manor in great condition. We also really liked the location, which gave us easy access to downtown and the highway. read more

Morehead Manor is a fine place to stay while in Durham. It is in an excellent location, not far from downtown. The innkeepers are fine folks and Monica Edwards is a most excellent cook and hostess. Looking for somewhere nice to celebrate my husband's birthday, I located Morehead Manor on the Internet and we gave it a try. The decor, charming atmosphere, and comfortable furnishings in this 1910, 3-story mansion make you forget you are less than a mile away from downtown Durham with all it has to offer! Truly as good as it gets, Monica is a delight. The rooms are large and inviting, close to lots of good restaurants. The breakfasts that were served were amazing, and omlet with fresh vegetables and puffed apple pancake - scrumptious. Quite cup of tea, a friendly cat to pet, what more do you need to relax. read more
