The centerpiece of the house's interior is a rotunda supported by four Corinthian columns and lit by a stained glass window located on the roof. Walking into the foyer you cant help but embrace the timeless grace, where every corner whispers of history and a bygone era. There is a quiet serenity to the space, as if time slows just a little bit inside. The modern touch added to the old renovated mansion does come with a bit of a sharp, sterile elegance of a modern mansion. The Parlor is a great place to enjoy a delicious craft cocktail and even better, ADULTS ONLY! There are also many other lovely seating arrangements throughout the property, including outdoors, and a few even come with fire pits. Regardless of your intentions for visiting the Heights House, I am quite confident there will be no disappointments, unless they have a private event. Cheers!

Everything is lovely and though it is all modern and sleek, it still feels fitting for the original era of the house. The cocktail area takes up most of the main floor, with a stand-up bar just off the entryway with a few tables and then a larger lounging area with sofas and chairs just beyond. The drinks are exceptionally good, and the spirits menu is creative. They also offer a few small plates. There is plenty of paved parking immediately next to the hotel for guests only, so that is not a hassle as it can be at some B&B/inn-type establishments. At check-in, you are offered a complimentary glass of sparkling wine to set the tone. The rooms are comfortable, but I will say that the entry-level ones are quite small (which is apparent on the website), but for the rates charged there isn't even a place to sit and read a book other than the bed. There's one small, delicate wicker chair that would be for tying shoes or whatever, but not lounging. The bed is luxuriously dressed, and there is drawer space and a minifridge, but no closet -- hanging items can go on hooks by the door out in the open. The bathroom is spacious enough, with a broad sink and elegant tilework. The lighting fixtures throughout are nifty. I found the breakfast sort of average for this type of place. I came later on, so perhaps there is more earlier, but there were a few pastries, some hard-boiled eggs, and fruit when I arrived. There's also a fancy coffee-drink contraption, but those aren't my thing so I left that alone. It's a very easy walk across the Boylan Bridge and down a couple of blocks to the area of the Dillon with several restaurants, and the performing arts center is not far beyond that. Location-wise, there's plenty that's walkable but also more an easy drive away.

We also each got one free drink at the bar! I do wish there had been a little more Christmas feel in the room itself since there wasn't any holiday decor inside, but the hotel and surrounding area were gorgeous. The park right behind it was lit up beautifully with activities, which made it such a fun place to walk through. Parking unfortunately wasn't great since there were only a handful of spots, so we had to park a bit far away and walk back any time we left. The bed was super comfy and cozy, and room service comes from their restaurant so the food was delicious. The woman at the front desk was incredibly sweet and accommodating, and they also have extras like toothbrushes and other essentials if you forget anything. It is on the pricier side, but if you want to treat yourself for a special occasion, I highly recommend it. We're already talking about making it a tradition.

Definitely a change in scenery from our dry Colorado climate. The rooms are quaint and cozy and have a unique story for each of them as they are dedicated to a family member. Weeks in advance, we asked the owner, "How long can we have the reception?" to which she responded we could have it as long as we wanted because it's the "saddest thing in the world" to cut someone's wedding reception short. Well surprise, at 9pm the night of the reception, while dancing outdoors, the owner informed my mother that we had to turn off the music due to an Apex noise ordinance. We later found out from Apex police there is no such ordinance (my dad called). Also, this inn is on a huge piece of land, and the music was not that loud. When we asked to move the dancing inside the inn, the owner told an elaborate story of how a honeymooning couple had been dropped off, checked in, and they immediately went upstairs to their room. Of course this sounded fishy; why would a honeymooning couple be dropped off at an inn in the middle of nowhere while a wedding reception was going on? We found out later there was no such couple, but the owner planned ahead with her story and had even put a "do not disturb" sign on the "couple's" door. We should've been told upfront, when we initially asked, that we could have the reception until 9pm instead of being manipulated by such unethical tactics. We could've planned things better. It still doesn't make sense to us. If the innkeeper wanted to go home for the night, aren't there nicer ways to plan this ahead instead of not being truthful about multiple things? It was embarrassing to skip over many planned songs and suddenly announce that we had to play our last song. Our guests (and we) were shortchanged. They traveled from across the country to be with us, and our time with them was awkwardly cut short. I want to warn future brides to get every detail regarding your wedding planning in writing so things like this don't happen to you; we were too trusting. Also, some food served at dinner was tasteless and unacceptable. Six years later I still remember that dry beef. Future brides, you would be wise to take your business elsewhere!! Sure, the suite we stayed in was comfortable, but how can we recommend a place run in such a manner?

There are so many things that can go wrong with a blind selection but this one had not one disappointment! The house was built in the early 1900's and has been restored to the grandeur the original owner envisioned. Alan and Patti are the owners and they have worked hard to fill the house with furniture and art appropriate to the age. I believe every guest will be pleased when they first walk in the door. The bedding is very good and very comfortable made up with nice linens not high count cotton thread but very nice. The breakfast served each morning is wonderful. We had scrambled egg, perfectly done, bacon and toast. Fresh fruit and a fluffy croissant filled with chocolate and whipped cream. Sound decadent? It is! The next morning we had quiche with cinnamon raisin toast, fresh strawberries and yes yet another croissant. Just wonderful but breakfast was not the best part. The best part is the caring attentive inn keepers..! Patti and Alan are welcoming, caring and just great people. We talked and the conversation took on the style of friends conversing not acquaintances exchanging small talk. There is an art to that and each of them possess the prompt skills to engage strangers. Dunn is good stop along route I-95, course if you could stay at the Simply Divine Inn at another place then it too would be a good stop! Book this inn and get ready for a great stay!
