    Awesome outdoor wedding yard
    Greg H.

Old Lystra Inn is the most beautiful wedding venue, set in rural Chapel Hill. The house is so pristine and amazing, with an incredible backyard setting for an outdoor wedding. There is an historic log cabin on premise that adds to the incredible charm of the location. Right next to the cabin is a gravel pathway with an awesome bonfire location. The hosts, Beth and Tony, are absolutely incredible. So knowledgeable, kind, and dedicated to providing the best guest experience possible. They knock it out of the park every time. There is plenty of room for parking and also a huge luxury event tent that will accommodate large events. Close to all areas in the Triangle, and all of the guests will be completely charmed. Absolutely recommend!

I came here as a guest for a wedding and must say this venue is absolutely gorgeous. The ceremony…read morewas held next to their pond and it was gorgeous. They even had a alpaca in a top hat - hard to beat that! However, the thing that stood out most was the genuinely caring staff. I'm embarrassed to say I had a little to much to drink that evening but without going into too much graphic detail I will just say that the staff went above and beyond to make sure I got back to my hotel safely. They even drove me back in their own vehicles and made a point to text my fiance in order to check up on me the next day. I would highly recommend this venue for all your event needs, you and your guests will definitely be in great hands.

Even the rain on the rooftop added to the atmosphere. You are such a talented, sweet, genuine person and it was my pleasure meeting you! You are the best at putting people at ease. The "Wedding and Reception" were like a fairytale, more beautiful than words can describe. The lightning made it look magical! I highly recommend Chapel Hill Carriage House. My family thought it was one of the most beautiful weddings they had ever been to and we have had many beautiful weddings at our family home on the Pamilico River! Best regards, Fran

If you ever have the opportunity to attend an event here--don't turn it down!…read more When I was first invited to a wedding here in June, and saw how rustic it was in photos and outdoors, I had grave concerns, but in the end no one got hurt and everyone made it back safely to civilization. The reception area is indoors and a fine place for a party of any type. They serve drinks with Lavender from their farm. They will give you packets of Lavender--it's a real Lavender Farm I will forever have great memories of attending a wedding here. Such a unique place. Some important details you may want to know: 1. Give yourself a minimum of 30 minutes from Chapel Hill to get here--45 minutes during the business week. Slow speed roads, lots of turns, dirt the last section, drive slow. 2. The last 1/2 mile is all dirt gravel--some thick. I had an SUV 4-wheel drive truck rental coincidentally--no problem at all. If I had my personal sports car--PAIN! I may not have gone down the road... If you are flying in for an event here--do yourself a favor and rent a PU Truck or SUV, not a passenger car. If you live here--borrow someones truck--you will thank me. 3. The entire parking lot is gravel--drop everyone off on the reception pavement and one person parks and does the long walk on gravel to the reception--wear appropriate shoes to walk on gravel. I cleaned my shoes for 30 minutes the next day. They have golf carts--if you are concerned about your shoes--ask for golf cart pickup from the parking lot. 4. Men's and women's bathrooms are tiny for a party more than 100 people--get in there when everyone else is not. 5. The outdoor wedding ceremony in June brought tears to my eyes...and sweat to my body--dress appropriately. 6. Spend as much time as you can on the patio outside--it's so pleasant there overlooking the Lavender fields I could sit there every night with a drink. I don't have a review of the food because the food is different for everyone based on budget and who you hire for food provision. I posted some photos of the place, but on the request of the family will not post photos of any attendees, or the wedding couple due to their national celebrity status. I had the opportunity to chat a bit with the owner of Lavender Oaks Farms who is one of the most successful and dynamic entrepreneurs you will meet. Interestingly, she was originally from the Los Angeles area of California but very happy to make a home in North Carolina more than 30 years ago.

The good: beautiful space, excellent Harney & Sons tea, and outstanding scones. Unfortunately, that's where the highlights end. The milk bread used for all the sandwiches was dense, dry, and hard to swallow, which wiped out an entire tier of the service. No one came to check on us, so we had no chance to raise our concerns. A booked baby shower in the same room completely killed the ambiance, and despite noting a special birthday at reservation, it went entirely unacknowledged. Beautiful bones, but the execution made my birthday memorable for all the wrong reasons.

The service and presentation of each plate was outstanding. We had the 3 course Prix Fixe menu, and we got something different so we could try 6 things. Overall, the food was good but did not quite rise to the same level as the presentation and service. Rating by plate: - Pumpkin Squash (2 stars): It was very hard and not very warm. Do not recommend. - Pork Osso Bucco (5 stars): Best thing we had. Wish we both ordered this one so we didn't have to share. - Beef Tenderloin (4 stars): We enjoyed it, but have definitely had better for less money. - Seared Chicken Breast (3 stars): It was a rectangular piece of meat, which was unexpected. I would compare it to chicken at a wedding, but I've had better at a wedding. - NC Cheese Trio (4 stars): Large portion of cheeses with a nice variety. I wish the crackers had more variety (not all seedy). - Chocolate Soufflé (5 stars): This is their signature item and a must get! The name on the menu is more complicated than the word chocolate, lol.
