The owners are a lovely African American couple and their decor is exquisite (they have an amazing coffee table in the living room area). When we mentioned we were sort of celebrating my wife's birthday, they upgraded us to a larger room. We enjoyed the grounds and even walked to downtown Durham for dinner. The neighborhood was mostly quiet, excepting a few sirens that you hear in any city and the sleep quality was good. We helped ourselves to some herbal tea and sat out on their porch at night. Breakfast next morning was delicious and we had a nice conversation with the husband. All in all, a lovely experience.

All the rooms are beautiful, well appointed, quiet and spotless. Monica and Daniel, the hosts, are wonderful assuring guests are comfortable and answering any and all questions about the area. Because we had the wedding & the reception at the Hall River ballroom, we weren't able to use the property as much as we wanted to. I only wish that we knew how well this property was stocked because we would have had our reception there. She has many places where you can sit outside and enjoy the scenery with multiple grills, refrigerators, and fire pits. While I have not seen at the four seasons, I feel like this is probably on par. Everything feels luxurious here. I was told ahead of time that the showers were on point. Literally, this is a hotel you would come just for the showers. They are great. I don't know how to explain it but they have some really nice showers. Everything in the room feels super clean and nice. I did not feel the need to pull out my Lysol wipes one time. Everything feels clean. Bottled water was in the refrigerator upon entry. The top sheet/blanket on the bed actually looks clean and like something you could use if you wanted to. They have tufted ottoman and clean fabric furniture if you did want to sit on it. The light fixtures are really pretty a tray sailing. It seriously is a beautiful room. And apparently all the profits goes to Student scholarships. And then, if you have time, we can go out back on the patio. It reminds me of a resort. You can borrow a bike, sit in any of the rocking chairs. They have so many rocking chairs for you to enjoy the patio with. Multiple gas, fire, pits, heating lamps all around, And plenty of open spaces. Even when you get out of your car to check in, there's a light music playing to set the tone. The music is playing outside of the hotel and inside. It just sets the tone. I did not use the restaurant but the restaurant looks amazing. Free cookies, and water with cucumbers were downstairs complementary. Every time you and Dan leave, you're walking on some beautiful brick paths surrounded by lush green grass. It's just stunning around here. And then of course you have a beautiful campus surrounding it. If I had a reason to, I would spend a few more nights here. It's an awesome place. One of the better hotels I have stayed at.

The room was spacious and very clean, beautiful windows on two sides, central air conditioning and nice full bath. The historic house is a gem to explore with an interesting collection of artwork. Our host was super helpful in advising us on local activities and worthwhile restaurants. He is very knowledgeable about the Inn's and the local history. The cook prepared a 5 star spread for us for breakfast featuring his favourite "teddy bear" fruit sculpture. What a treat!! Enjoyed the back porch with view of garden which supports a number of species of migrating and local species of birds. An orchestra awaited us every morning! Such an enjoyable stay- hope to be back sometime.

The gym is basic but solid, with free weights up to 50 lbs, a few upper body machines, leg machines, cardio equipment, and space to stretch. We got to bottle feed the babies and mingle with them. We also got to tour the Inn and saw a glimpse of the original log cabin. It was a very educational experience and they had goat cheese; gelato and fudge for sale too! The staff was so welcoming and answered a lot of questions. I want to go stay the night at the cozy inn now. Next year, when the new baby goats are born as then I can spend as much time with them as I want :-) I am looking forward to the monthly dinners returning as well.

They have a LOT of beautiful goats, all ages, all colors and personalities, but they also have chickens, llamas and horses. The goats are very friendly and love to have someone pet them. Lunch was lemonchello chicken, a nice salad, rice pilaf and roasted veggies. We had a lemon tart for dessert. The table was set so nicely and we really enjoyed our meal. We had a great tour of the facility and our guide answered all of our questions with her super knowledge and huge amount of patience!
