It takes awhile to learn to utilize the various items in the shares, but I've found that it gets easier with each additional year to adapt to the timing of various vegetables. Unlike the local farmer's markets I find the produce to always be fresh. Nancy, the owner, does a nice job of communicating the various ups and downs of farm life. Sure, there are occasional disappointments (for example, when a crop gets destroyed by insects and/or weather conditions), but that just makes me appreciate the overall wonderful quality all that much more!

But for some reason, I can spend hours ogling and playing with kitchen gadgets in stores like this. They have EVERYTHING!!!! Baking stuff, utensils, small appliances, mixes, seasonings, sauces, coffees & teas....all kinds of shapes, sizes, and colors. The best part of my most recent visit was all the samples throughtout the store. They were promoting a brand of dipping sauces and had different stations with all the flavors set up throughout the place. Delicious. My only complaint is that the checkout lines were SUPER slow. Not sure what the holdup was, but the clerks were moving at a snail's pace.

My wife and I have been habitue's of the Minneapolis Farmers Market for decades. When the Market…read moreis open we can usually be found there every weekend. Over the years we have developed a number of vendors that we patronize such as the cucumber lady, the asparagus man, the egg guy, and many others selling vegetables and other products that you just can't find at the supermarket However, this year of the pandemic (2020), we decided that it wasn't worth the risk to go to the market in person. We eat a lot of vegetables and didn't want to give up local produce so we decided to participate in Community Sustainable Agriculture (CSA) program. One of the vendors we patronized at the Market was Untiedt based in Waverly. They are one of the largest vendors selling mostly local products at the Market and we particularly liked their grape tomatoes and sugar cube melons. Since they are large they have an extensive network in the metro area for distribution of their weekly shares. We get ours at Wagners on Penn Avenue in Southwest Minneapolis. There is the added bonus of a small Untiedt vegetable stand in the parking lot which we use to supplement our CSA box. So far we have been very happy with our experience. Every week we get a nice variety of fresh veggies. Since there are only two of us at home now we debated about whether to get the family size or smaller sized box. We went with the family sized and are glad we did. However we do eat a lot of vegetables. Quality has always been high. It would be nice if you could customize your order each week but I understand that the logistics would be unmanageable. We miss going to the Farmer's market in person but the CSA box is a nice option to have.

The demo was very helpful before we broke in to groups and tried it out for ourselves. Due to this class' popularity - the group sizes were a bit larger (we had 5). Although we all found tasks to divvy up, we did feel bad that most didn't get to really try out all the steps of making this high-maintenance cookie to really get hands-on experience. Becki, our instructor & AK owner, was very interactive and helpful throughout the whole class. She provided good tips and tricks & created a fun environment, encouraging & fostering great group interaction. During the baking time we took a brief "shopping break" to explore the store. Becki has so many practical, high-quality cooking items it is a great store. You could find absolutely anything you could possibly need in your kitchen! Back to class, Becki had prepped the buttercream for us to fill the cookies. She went over different combinations we could try with jelly fillings & then we got to try our hand at filling. We only wished we had remembered to ask a few questions about making the buttercream, since we didn't get to mix this up during the baking phase & gain hands-on experience. We are always so impressed with the variety of classes Becki offers, her passion for cooking, & we loved the great environment she fostered during the class. The members of the class were from all over the metro, proving it really is worth "the drive" to Buffalo if this is not a close location for you. AK's Facebook page and website are updated frequently to keep you in-the-know on all upcoming events. Time flies by during class! But you leave with a good experience, tactical skills, a recipe card, and for this class we each took home ~10 macarons. Bon appetit!
