The owner was so nice and shared how his family had moved from Massachusetts and saw an opportunity when the business went on sale a while back. It sounds like he has great plans to expand the business both on site and online, including delivery options. Although, driving out to new Germany isn't a bad way to spend a Saturday morning. Bonus is you get to peruse their coolers where they have a variety of options, including multiple flavors of delicious beef sticks. This is definitely a place is recommend for processing and getting your locally sourced meats.

They offer feed bags to feed the animals at just $1 a bag, apple canons, hay rides through the orchard and a jumping pillow! We were able to enjoy a warm bonfire too! There was also some outdoor seating and some live music which was nice. There is a little parking right in front and then some more on the side.

I have stopped there a total of two times for their steaks, pork steaks, and beef sticks. Simply excellent. The New York Strip Steaks and Ribeyes are an excellent cut, and cheaper than Target! They have an amazing pork steak as well, big in size, but less than $5.00!! I went to close down the RV earlier today and picked up a drunken marinaded ribeye (frozen), a New York Strip, and a large pork steak on the way home. A simple seasoning of raw sugar, steak seasoning, and lemon pepper and a good sear on the charcoal grill made the trip totally worth it. Sorry no pictures. We ate it all and I forgot to take the pics! If you're in the area, stop on in and browse. They also have weekly specials as well. Well worth the drive from the Twin Cities (about an hour).

The box usually had about 8 things, and they always tried to have something sweet in the box. One week early in the season, we got maple syrup since fruits weren't growing in Minnesota yet. The variety of things we got was good and differed from week to week. (The other CSA tended to give us the same thing a lot). We did receive things that I don't usually cook with but I learned how to use them most of the time, so it was a good thing. (e.g. kale chips) They also provided a list of what was in the box so we knew what we got (which the other CSA did not provide). This was really helpful - e.g knowing that it was the corn that is sold at the state fair since Untiedts provides the corn, or they type of onion was really unique, etc. They emailed us a list and then included a more detailed sheet in the box. Here's one week example of what was in the box (at the end of the season): Haralson Apples, Beets, Carrots, Squash- Spaghetti and White Acorn, Tomatoes, Watermelon, Cucumbers, Green Beans. The food in the CSA box was local (with the exception of peaches one week which he got from a farmer that he knew in the south). They do have half and full share options. Also, you can visit the farm - they had a few events, and we did go to one with a tractor ride and food (including corn they roasted in their roasters). The previous reviewer is correct that sometimes their farm stands bring in food from outside of the Twin Cities, but it was nice to pick up some Michigan blueberries as I picked up my CSA share for the week. Over the years we have developed a number of vendors that we patronize such as the cucumber lady, the asparagus man, the egg guy, and many others selling vegetables and other products that you just can't find at the supermarket However, this year of the pandemic (2020), we decided that it wasn't worth the risk to go to the market in person. We eat a lot of vegetables and didn't want to give up local produce so we decided to participate in Community Sustainable Agriculture (CSA) program. One of the vendors we patronized at the Market was Untiedt based in Waverly. They are one of the largest vendors selling mostly local products at the Market and we particularly liked their grape tomatoes and sugar cube melons. Since they are large they have an extensive network in the metro area for distribution of their weekly shares. We get ours at Wagners on Penn Avenue in Southwest Minneapolis. There is the added bonus of a small Untiedt vegetable stand in the parking lot which we use to supplement our CSA box. So far we have been very happy with our experience. Every week we get a nice variety of fresh veggies. Since there are only two of us at home now we debated about whether to get the family size or smaller sized box. We went with the family sized and are glad we did. However we do eat a lot of vegetables. Quality has always been high. It would be nice if you could customize your order each week but I understand that the logistics would be unmanageable. We miss going to the Farmer's market in person but the CSA box is a nice option to have.
