Lamb salad (special)

Consistently awesome. Delicious meals, generous portions, amazing pizzas. Faultless... though I'll never understand why the Fantasia pizza got scratched. The only disappointment. A varied menu (including vegetarian and gluten free options as well as kids meals), impressive specials list and strong wine list - the Strand caters for everyone. Try to get a table outdoors if you don't like the noise - it's protected from the elements and the heaters will keep you warm on cold nights.

This is one of the best cafe restaurants around. It has won cafe of the year award about four times. It is another of my favourite haunts, particularly for breakfast where I usually have the English muffin with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon served to perfection. The Strand is run by the Papatoulis brothers, John and Tuss. These guys make the place warm, inviting, fun, and a bit of a party, just quietly. They hire amazing staff, or train them well, as service is excellent. I have spotted them downing a few shots with the staff before the evening trade to make it more fun for everyone (I am sure this isn't usual, just a one off celebration, anyway whatever works!). Also they have been known to play pretty heavy duty dance music in the morning. Their pizzas are wonderful and the salt and pepper squid is to die for, especially served up with a fresh margarita! The food is consistently wonderful. Make sure you book on weekends as they get very busy and then it can be a little noisy so its great for the kids but not for Uncle Frank with the hearing aid. So for a party vibe, good food and atmosphere head on down and say hello to the boys.

This place has won the best-cafe-in-SA award about a bajillion times, and with good reason. The atmosphere's nice and friendly. It fits the beach theme it's going for well, which does a wonderful job of psyching you up for a visit to the beach once you've finished your meal. (Wait forty minutes before you go in the water, though! Or is it thirty minutes? Whatever. I never pay attention to that crap anyway.) I had what they call the Mediterranean Squicken, which is Mediterranean squid and marinated chicken served on a salad. I'm not a seafood person. I hate the stuff. Anything out of the sea gets a 'no' from me. But every now and then I like to make sure I STILL hate it. And now I'm in a pickle, because I don't know whether I've undergone a taste-bud metamorphosis, or if it's just a testament to the great food at 'The Strand'. And then I washed it down with gelati, and that's something I can comment on with the utmost confidence: it was delicious.

I have a soft spot for trying establishment that have authentic Italian dishes on the menu and this place ticked those boxes for me. As soon as our group arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome the place is very spaces but more importantly the food. For cafe style menu this place definitely knows how to cook some seriously good pasta. The taste is truly Home style. And recommend to anyone yet to try

Lunch was relatively quick on a Monday. Food was good. Service was excellent. Prices were not too bad either.

I have never been to this cafe until today and it is absolutely fantastic in more ways than one!…read moreThey were so busy I reckon the whole family was out in force serving behind the counter. The first thing I noticed was an older ethnic man standing behind the front counter, talking out loud as if to a family member but it was a customer. This was the first snapshot into the almost cult following the cafe has encountered and with service like that, being treated as if part of the family (I which I had a share in the biz) who wouldn't go back! You want panini they got it and other varieties of bread, you want cheese to go with it, no problem which one would you like! It's like a mini central market or the markets of Province right here, seriously it's got everything and anything sweet or savoury. Easy parking and located along the tramline with the stop almost directly out the front, no pushing and jostling to get there as it's away from the Jetty Rd mayhem, a great location to catch up with friends. It's definitely a destination. Some people move house to be in the school zone they want to send their kids to or want to be closer to the doctors they visit or their families...I want to live closer to this place, my diet would be out the window but who cares, this is the life!

Dear Daisy, I'm…read morewriting this review to you today to let you know that I very much appreciated your hospitality today over lunch. You are so lucky to be set in such a beautiful little neighbourhood, so close to the industrial train lines but tucked away amongst all those cute Goodwood cottages. The cute embroidered chair cushions and large wooden tables was a nice detail you added to my lunch experience. Although your prices are a little bit more than your standard cafe, the choice you provided was great for lunch. And you must have known I'm a fan of an all day brunch too. My coffee was smooth and lunch of citrus smashed avo on rye with smoked salmon and fetta was fresh and zingy. My dining partner's pulled pork bun with potato salad looked lovely too. Thank you for friendly and speedy service. I look forward to catching up again soon. Best wishes, Chloe

Imagine the excitement coursing through my veins when a brand spanking new cafe (with all the…read morehipster/trendy trimmings) opens up 5 doors down from my house, and dearest Daisy, you passed my expectations for a local with flying colours. Dear Daisy occupies the space left by the Leah St Deli and is right on the tram line next to the Forestville tram stop next to the hairdressers. I've popped in and out of here a number of times for coffee and have been most satisfied with smooth flat whites and spicy long blacks and am always pleased with the sparkly service and cheery staff. The menu here is catered to the breakfast/brunch crew (all day breakfast, huzzah!) but Dear Daisy is developing a great lunch menu. The selection features all your standards for brekkie and lunch has a mix of wraps and rolls as well as some great specials (pulled pork buns, zucchini fritters anyone?) and over the past week since its opened I've seen the menu change and evolve. Lunching here I had a pulled pork bun with coleslaw with potato salad on the side, the pork was soft and tender and the potato salad had pickles (yay!) with yumminess all round. Pricing is quite reasonable and on the cheap side for the Goodwood area. Really looking forward to getting round to breakfast here and with 7am opening on the weekdays, I'm thinking a post night duty pick me up breakfast treat is in order!
