We especially appreciated this place because they make lunch sandwiches early in the morning, so we could get one early to eat on the VT Inn to Inn walk during the day. And the sandwiches were excellent. The turkey with cranberry mayo was especially good. They also had great coffee and cookies. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Funny, they only thing we did not try were the pies, but they looked awesome! read more

Went to this cute cafe for a quick bite and to try their pie. I ordered the ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sammy and tasted two different pies. The sandwich was great---lots of meat, soft bun, and fresh tasting. The pies were a mixed bag. The peach raspberry sour cream tasted grassy like a pasture (strange flavor). However, the bourbon pecan was delicious. Great crust and not too sweet like other pecan pies I've tasted. Cute place, easy parking, bathroom, good service. read more

This was an adorable place to stumble upon in the winter months and the cozy Chester center. My almost 10-year-old and I enjoyed a breakfast here she had a cinnamon raisin bagel toasted with peanut butter. She spread on herself and I enjoyed an egg and cheese on a local brioche bun and local Vermont cheese. It was delicious! There are about four tables inside and they also have board games for kids to play it was decorated very nicely for the holiday and the customer service was wonderful. read more

I love to bake and have several apple pie recipes that are family favorites. I recently had a piece of their pie that rivaled mine-so delicious. I also had a piece of their Golden Maple Pie which was also very good. Looking forward to trying more. If you like pie, you won't be disappointed. The restaurant is located on the main drag in Chester with plenty of other businesses to wander in & out of. Make an afternoon of it! read more

Just stopped in here on our way out of town after staying with some friends close by for a VT ski weekend. I had the ham, egg & cheese breakfast sandwich and it was a contender for one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. The bread was flaky, light, and buttery and the ham was abundant. We had a couple of pies with dinner last night and my boyfriend won't stop raving about how good they were. The cafe is also super cute and homey. Highly recommend!! read more

What a great shop! I learned about it thanks to www.Bring-Fido.com I was able to take my dogs. I got quiche. It was so good!! Then I got maple ice cream. I LOVE ice cream. My favorite ice cream I ever had was in Canada - maple ice cream. I have had maple ice cream several other times since that wonderful ice cream in Canada all those years ago - and nothing has compared to it. THIS PLACE has THE maple ice cream, though!! Leave it to Vermont to know how to make maple flavored anything that tastes perfect!! I was so happy, just eating my maple ice cream with my dogs. They brought water to my dogs too. My dogs promptly dumped the bowl. That's what they do. It's their talent. The shop keeper mopped it up cheerfully. I am so happy to have found this fun little shop in Vermont while I was visiting. Happened on this little gem when antique shopping. Quaint little shop with a great selection of sandwiches and pies. I had the roast beef with horseradish sauce and picked onions on fresh sourdough bread. Had to be one of the best sandwiches hands down I've ever had. Probably would not bother ordering anything other next time. My husband had the ham and son the chicken salad. All equally as tasty. The sandwiches had more meat than we have ever been served on a sandwich which was a nice surprise since they were a little pricey. We were so full we had to take pie to go! This place was so cute it makes me want to move to a little Vermont town. Egg and cheese was simple but so good, loved the brioche. Boyfriend got the "Elm St" turkey sandwich and also loved it. Driving around VT stopping at all our VT cheese places. All but one was closed. We stopped in Chester, looking for a light lunch. The Southern Pie Cafe was the first place we saw. My wife asked the person taking our order if the Roast Beef was rare. "Yes" she answered. My wife ordered the Dodge Rd. and I the Depot St. The sandwiches were quickly at our table. Yes the beef was rare. Both sandwiches were very tasty and pretty large. We took half of each with us. We then ordered two slices of one of their pies, I think it was called Chocolate Bourbon Walnut. It was very good. Pleasant atmosphere and not very noisy even though all the tables were occupied and people kept coming in to pick up their to go orders. We'll have to remember this place the next time where in the area. Maybe only order and split one sandwich, if we aren't hungry. That will leave room for trying their other pies. read more

I drove an hour and a half to eat here. They should have a big note on the site that reads, WE STOP SERVING SANDWICHES AT 3PM! # 1 bummer. The Caramel Latte was great, the apple square , great, the chocolate cookie, so so. My main reason for going here was a Bourbon Pecan Pie!!!!. Last one, mine. Was rather disappointed as it didn't have much bourbon flavor, nor much flavor at all, and the crust didn't want to let go from the pan, so it wasn't served well. Just an ok for the pie. We came at the end of the day on a Saturday in October. No pie slices, but there were a few cookie and scone options which was perfect for what my parents and I were looking for. I got a latte, my husband got a hot chocolate and my parents got decaf coffee. It was a perfect stop for a late afternoon pick me up. We got coffees here and two pies. The golden mountain latte was amazing. I highly recommend it. The inside is so cute, and is a nice place to do work. The service was a little slow with only one person behind the counter, but that is expected at a small coffee shop/pie shop. After Angela recommended the roast beef with horseradish we had to give it a shot!! The best part about it was the red onion jam - I was skeptical at first, but it ended up being the best part of the sandwich. The sourdough bread was tasty but a little crumbly. Definitely worth the trip. read more

Gosh I tried. As a southerner-transplant, I was looking forward to their pie! My chocolate pie barely had a 1/8" bottom crust (amazing it held up) and tasted more like chocolate pudding. Basically the crust was non-existent. And hubby's bourbon chocolate walnut was ok- pretty chocolate-chunky. I would say the crusts were most disappointing. I didn't buy the pecan because I really felt it might not deliver by the way it looked. I'm pretty picky. I'm sad to write this review but I wanted to be honest that these pies don't live up to their name. Maybe I'll try again. Doubt it. read more

We looked around at the fresh and frozen pies and they looked appealing. As others have mentioned, there are no prices so that was a little disconcerting. A gentleman came and helped us and as noted in prior reviews, he was somewhat gruff but I didn't take it as grumpy or mean. My take, unsubstantiated by any scientific evidence, is that not every store owner is pre-disposed to having a neurotypical customer-centric focus. That being said, we were offered coffee with our pie slices and a place to sit. There is currently a lot of construction going on at the place because the business was hit hard after COVID and then flooding in Vermont in 2023 caused significant damage. My blueberry coffee cake was good. I will say it wasn't worth $8 per slice. As noted, the prices are sky high here. For two slices, two coffees, a small bag of cookies and a peanut butter bar it was $36....$39 if I wanted to pay by card so I opted for cash and saved the $3. Probably if prices were posted, customers would immediately turn around and walk out. When I saw the price of the pie slice, I immediately thought "This is as expensive as Manhattan". I don't mind as much when I shell out big bucks for food there because it's expected but it was a bit of a shock to see those prices in Vermont. To wrap it up, I agree with others that this place is overpriced and service is brusque at best. However, if prices had been posted, I would have given this 3 stars easily because I appreciate a direct and no-nonsense approach to running a business.

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday to receive a Next Day Air delivery box of sinfully delicious goodies from a client. The assortment was large and the task was daunting, so after work I invited my sugar-holic staff in my office for a closed-door chocolate sampling session. Soon all 6 women had strong opinions. - We first tried the Triple Chocolate Chunk Cookie, which has a great chocolate taste. The consistency is good- not too hard and not too soft. The cookie is large and heavy and big enough to share. It's a great treat for any choco-holic. - Next, was the Almond Butter Cookie, which after the chocolate cookie, tasted a little too plain but very good. It has a crisp and flaky-like consistency and we quickly discovered that cookie eaters fall into two categories- those that like crunchy, crisp cookies and those that like soft, moist ones. The almonds added great texture. - The Double Cream Cheese Brownie is more of a cake than a brownie. It wasn't a bad size- neither too thick nor too large. The brownie connoisseurs among us felt that it was moist and delicious. - The classic Chocolate Chip Cookie was next. It is very chunky and filled with chocolate. Some likened it to Soft Chips Ahoy. Our bellies were getting filled; Our comments were getting fewer, as we were zoning out on sugar highs. - Raspberry Crumb bars, sit on a shortbread crust and are topped with an oat and pecan-studded crumb topping. Delicious and addicting. - Belgium Chocolate Ganache Brownies were not a big hit with my staff, but perhaps their taste buds were getting dulled. Most felt it was too sweet and the texture was messy. - There certainly were enough cookie types to choose from. Milk Chocolate Butterscotch is a large cookie. My tasters preferred the smaller cookies, where you can choose your portions. This cookie has a rich butterscotch taste. - The Peanut Butter Chip Brownie was delicious. The consistency is nice and chewy, with a subtle peanut butter and chocolate flavor. - Last, but not least, was the Belgium Chocolate Chunk Brownie, which are delicious brownies made with butter, cocoa powder, and walnuts. The warm brownies are topped with a nice chocolate walnut icing. It is very sweet and by this time we all had a sugar rush. I was amazed 6 petite women could devour all that chocolate goodness. They said Chocolate makes them feel loved and special and tastes great as it melts in their mouths. Nuff said. Overall, a very nice gift to receive and/or give.

I loved their beans, so I decided to buy a bag of the espresso roast. They also have single origin roasts, which I would love to try if I'm ever back here. The place is a walk up window with a very small patio, and it seems like back in the day, it used to be a place that you could walk inside. As for staff, there was one singular man making everyone's coffees and also bagging up coffee beans. Hats off to that guy (the owner? unsure). Really glad we stopped here, and I highly recommend making the stop if the line isn't too long.
