We especially appreciated this place because they make lunch sandwiches early in the morning, so we could get one early to eat on the VT Inn to Inn walk during the day. And the sandwiches were excellent. The turkey with cranberry mayo was especially good. They also had great coffee and cookies. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Went to this cute cafe for a quick bite and to try their pie. I ordered the ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sammy and tasted two different pies. The sandwich was great---lots of meat, soft bun, and fresh tasting. The pies were a mixed bag. The peach raspberry sour cream tasted grassy like a pasture (strange flavor). This was an adorable place to stumble upon in the winter months and the cozy Chester center. My almost 10-year-old and I enjoyed a breakfast here she had a cinnamon raisin bagel toasted with peanut butter. She spread on herself and I enjoyed an egg and cheese on a local brioche bun and local Vermont cheese. It was delicious! There are about four tables inside and they also have board games for kids to play it was decorated very nicely for the holiday and the customer service was wonderful. read more

I love to bake and have several apple pie recipes that are family favorites. I recently had a piece of their pie that rivaled mine-so delicious. I also had a piece of their Golden Maple Pie which was also very good. Looking forward to trying more. If you like pie, you won't be disappointed. Just stopped in here on our way out of town after staying with some friends close by for a VT ski weekend. I had the ham, egg & cheese breakfast sandwich and it was a contender for one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. The bread was flaky, light, and buttery and the ham was abundant. What a great shop! I learned about it thanks to www.Bring-Fido.com I was able to take my dogs. I got quiche. It was so good!! Then I got maple ice cream. I LOVE ice cream. My favorite ice cream I ever had was in Canada - maple ice cream. I have had maple ice cream several other times since that wonderful ice cream in Canada all those years ago - and nothing has compared to it. THIS PLACE has THE maple ice cream, though!! Leave it to Vermont to know how to make maple flavored anything that tastes perfect!! I was so happy, just eating my maple ice cream with my dogs. They brought water to my dogs too. My dogs promptly dumped the bowl. That's what they do. It's their talent. The shop keeper mopped it up cheerfully. I am so happy to have found this fun little shop in Vermont while I was visiting. Happened on this little gem when antique shopping. Quaint little shop with a great selection of sandwiches and pies. I had the roast beef with horseradish sauce and picked onions on fresh sourdough bread. Had to be one of the best sandwiches hands down I've ever had. Probably would not bother ordering anything other next time. My husband had the ham and son the chicken salad. All equally as tasty. The sandwiches had more meat than we have ever been served on a sandwich which was a nice surprise since they were a little pricey. We were so full we had to take pie to go! Side note, you can buy the whole pie abs select which flavors to make up the pie! Highly recommend you try this place out. Staff was very pleasant abs restrooms were clean!!! Enjoy! Driving around VT stopping at all our VT cheese places. All but one was closed. We stopped in Chester, looking for a light lunch. The Southern Pie Cafe was the first place we saw. My wife asked the person taking our order if the Roast Beef was rare. "Yes" she answered. My wife ordered the Dodge Rd. and I the Depot St. The sandwiches were quickly at our table. Yes the beef was rare. Both sandwiches were very tasty and pretty large. We took half of each with us. We then ordered two slices of one of their pies, I think it was called Chocolate Bourbon Walnut. It was very good. Pleasant atmosphere and not very noisy even though all the tables were occupied and people kept coming in to pick up their to go orders. We'll have to remember this place the next time where in the area. Maybe only order and split one sandwich, if we aren't hungry. That will leave room for trying their other pies. read more

I drove an hour and a half to eat here. They should have a big note on the site that reads, WE STOP SERVING SANDWICHES AT 3PM! # 1 bummer. The Caramel Latte was great, the apple square , great, the chocolate cookie, so so. My main reason for going here was a Bourbon Pecan Pie!!!!. Last one, mine. Was rather disappointed as it didn't have much bourbon flavor, nor much flavor at all, and the crust didn't want to let go from the pan, so it wasn't served well. Just an ok for the pie. We got coffees here and two pies. The golden mountain latte was amazing. I highly recommend it. The inside is so cute, and is a nice place to do work. The service was a little slow with only one person behind the counter, but that is expected at a small coffee shop/pie shop. Gosh I tried. As a southerner-transplant, I was looking forward to their pie! My chocolate pie barely had a 1/8" bottom crust (amazing it held up) and tasted more like chocolate pudding. Basically the crust was non-existent. And hubby's bourbon chocolate walnut was ok- pretty chocolate-chunky. I would say the crusts were most disappointing. I didn't buy the pecan because I really felt it might not deliver by the way it looked. I'm pretty picky. I'm sad to write this review but I wanted to be honest that these pies don't live up to their name. Maybe I'll try again. Doubt it. read more
