I was beyond disappointed with the service I received and waisted several weeks trying to get a couch before the holidays. The couch was made poorly - wrong dimensions, seems were coming apart in some areas. Paul said they usually checks his couches but he did not have time to do that. He offered me that couch at 50% off. I did not want it even at that price. Paul never invited me to come in to look at other product to try to make things right. Instead, he suggested other stores I can try. Thanks to the previous review, I decided to check this place out when I moved to the L.A. area. Glad I didn't waste my time driving from furniture store to furniture store searching for the ideal sofa. This morning my couch arrived. I couldn't be happier. Paul the Sofa Guy helped me think through different designs and associated cost options. I walked away with a couch within my budget that I got to design myself that was exactly what I wanted. The fabric is top grade and discontinued so it was significantly less expensive. The cushions are the perfect degree of softness (I got to choose from several options), and the body of the couch was one I'd always wanted. Why shop at Pottery Barn or some other schmarmy furniture store when you have the chance to support a top notch professionally run local business and meet some great people in the process? Great selection of sofas and fabrics but it is pretty expensive. For example to: 1. upgrade the cushion padding it would be an additional $1,500 which was pretty high compared to another custom sofa retailer. 2. Scotch gaurd sofa was $18/linear sq ft about $200 for the sectional we wanted - compared to $100 for a service plan which would cover ripe/stains, etc at another custom sofa retailer 3. only 2 cushions with an almost 3 piece sectional 4. delivery was between $120-$150 compared to $80 They have a lot of selection and good quality items but are very expensive. At this point I will still look at other custom sofa shops to find a better deal. read more

Even though we were helped by a woman (Vicki), The Sofa Guy (man behind the sofa?) is awesome! After asking all our friends and family where to get good furniture, we were stumped - no one knew! To Yelp we went, and found The Sofa Guy. I'm not a fan of big-box furniture stores, and so seems most of Yelp isn't either. Even though Thousand Oaks is a bit of a trek, it was well worth it. Stepped in here a few Sunday's ago and picked out a nice chair-and-a-half for our living room. Custom built in the exact style and fabric we wanted, it was ready for pickup about a week and a half later. Paul, the owner, is amazing, and so is Vicky, who works the showroom. I am amazed at their incredible customer service. We bought a super comfy chaise lounge sofa about three years ago. Everyone who visits our house comments on what an amazing couch it is. We've had overnight guests who sleep on the chaise part of it comfortably. But the chenille fabric doesn't hold up well and has torn at the seams. Paul repaired them for us without hesitation. While I don't recommend the chenille, I definitely recommend The Sofa Guy. We moved into a new home and started from scratch. Ordered three sofas and not one problem occurred during the whole process. Not even a minor problem. I worked with Jasmine whose memory was incredible. She remembered which sofa was for which room and which one I liked best versus my husband. All sofas were customized so we were able to pick fabric, detailing, number of cushions, firmness of cushions, etc. for each sofa. They even helped us pick just the right fabrics to resist a cat who loves to scratch. The delivery guys were friendly and went above and beyond regarding moving things around and making sure we were happy. Now we are fully enjoying three beautiful sofas in our new home. I have to say that I love the team at the Sofa Guy. We walked in and picked out a beautiful sofa in minutes after having searched for months at other stores. They worked with us on price and their ability to customize the sofa to fit our room sealed the deal. We did have some issues with the sofa and the Sofa Guy team, Jasmine and the Sofa Guy himself went above and beyond to get things taken care of for us. First of all when I first read these reviews before meeting the shop owner I was a bit suspect because the reviews list way to much information that a regular person would list. Sounded more like a sales pitch for the store and the owner of the store. I went to the store anyway and met the owner and asked the owner questions . After searching all the standard places for our new sectional (i.e. Pottery Barn, Ethan Allen, Thomasville, etc) we weren't finding anything we loved and the prices were crazy. During our first visit to the sofa guy we knew we found the perfect couch at the perfect price. Paul and his staff were super helpful in making recommendations - we even customized our couch by changing the width of the arms (try doing that at pottery barn!). The Sofa Guy is legit! We wanted to buy a leather chair and after looking everywhere, just couldn't find what we wanted. A trip to the Sofa Guy turned out to be the solution. They have binders full of different style sofas, chairs, etc., and entirely too many fabric/leather swatches to choose from. Basically what you get is exactly what you want; if you like the style of a particular piece, but want the arms longer or shorter; no problem, it can be done. It took less than 2 weeks for our chair to be made, and it turned out even better than we hoped. At first, the fact that there aren't any hard-set prices is a bit disconcerting, but rest assured, you will end up getting a great deal. If you don't buy your sofa here you are making a mistake. Paul is fantastic. We tried to describe what we wanted but weren't doing a very good job. So Paul offered to come to our home. While there he asked us a bunch of questions of what my wife and I envisioned, and he put together some sketches with his ideas. When we all came to an agreement on what we wanted, Paul got busy. Finished our couch literally in a few days and we had it within a week. His suggestions for color, design, materials, etc. were all spot on. Just purchased our second sofa from here which we love as much as our first. Jasmin patiently helped us design and customize our sofa to the exact size and style we were looking for. I thought the 2 included accent pillows was a very nice touch. My "Sofa Guy" experience was completely easy, quick and I got an incredible beautiful sofa! After looking around for a sectional that would fit our living room, a friend that had done business with the sofa guy recommended I check them out. I looked on-line and checked out the reviews. I decided to give it a shot. I cannot stress how happy that I found this company! I looked though books, 100's of fabric samples, sat on couches and ottomans and finally found our perfect sofa. I was so impressed with Paul's response when I wasn't happy with the sectional sofa I ordered. The back was too tall floating in my small familyroom. I was so concerned with the depth and the 8'x8' size that I never thought to measure the back height ( the sofa I bought was up against the wall in the showroom). We agreed that it needed to be cut down 3" and redesigned the shape of the pillows. He was more than fair on the additional cost. The only thing I would change is the firmness of the cushions. They do not seem to be getting softer/smushier with time. read more

Three thumbs up for Sofa Guy! Their staff is excellent and my furniture and furnishings are wonderful. Initially, I wanted a custom leather sofa with down cushions for my large Great Room. Barbara and Jeff came out and assessed the space discussed some ideas and my ideas, vision and needs. They came up with a design and reviewed the ideas with me. Barbara's "designer eye" tailored the fabrics to match the room, my taste and the direction of our home which we are updating. The items shown to me were wonderful. I don't have a lot of vision with regard to what swatches will look like when the fabric is on a piece, so I placed a lot of faith in Barbara and that faith paid off. My room looks so beautiful and I decided to then redo my kitchen too. Initially, I didn't get the concept that Barbara showed me and she was so wonderful in showing me other ideas and not trying to steer me. In the end, I went 100% with her original concept and when it came in, it was even better than I anticipated, once again. If I had an unlimited budget, I would immediately have Barbara restyle my entire home. She has an amazing skill set and is a wonderful woman to work with as well. I got completely ripped of by the Sofa Guy. Do not go there. He cheated my wife and I on a sofa that was defective in 2 weeks. He brought over a specialist who admitted that the fix was temporary. He completely blew scheduled appts. He did not show or call which rude, ignorant, and bad business. He refused to refund my money in full for a piece of junk. Charged me a 25% stocking fee which was a complete rip off of over $700. If I didn't hate litigation I would have gladly and rightfully sued him. Business owners within his own complex thinks he sells subpar crap. And the people who work for him are clueless. And that's what you get stuck with when you encounter a problem. Worst business owner in the Conejo Valley. Paul is not a man of his word read more
