Yep, it's that man Wetherspoon again. The Society Rooms deserves plaudits for being probably the most spacious out of all the Glasgow 'Spoons. Not so much just for its huge size but more that there is a good bit of space between all of the tables too, so you're never going to feel too claustrophobic. Although when it is at its busiest on a Saturday night you may still need to watch you don't spill someone's drink, especially near the bar, where it gets quite crowded.
It is not a particularly studenty Wetherspoons, although it does attract a largely young crowd; on a Saturday evening this is mostly woman with very short skirts and men with neck tattoos. It is usually fairly quiet during the week, so there is plenty of space to sit and plenty space up at the bar - far more so than the nearby Counting House. The seats are also much comfier than the Counting House, with several sofas as well. There is the added bonus of TV screens, although the only time I remember them showing any live football was during Euro 2008, so you needn't worry about this ruining your quiet drink.
Being very comfortable, spacious and modern - this Wetherspoons is more in line with the Edward Wylie than the slightly more mundane Counting House and Crystal Palace. Although it is very satisfactory, I would say that more caution is needed on a Saturday night, where it looks more like a warm-up pub for the Savoy. read more
