HEED THIS WARNING! We were loyal customers of this business until a recent grooming session resulted in a traumatic experience for our 4-year-old husky. Before the appointment, our dog was an active, energetic runner. Now, he's a sore, sad husky with mobility issues requiring pain medication and anti-inflammatories -- even three months later. During the grooming, our husky sustained 50-60 wounds on his back. Our vet confirmed severe "brush burn" from aggressive handling and prescribed antibiotics and pain relief to prevent infection. Unfortunately, the damage went deeper. Post-grooming, our dog lost proper use of his hind legs, couldn't jump or run, struggled with stairs, and experienced pain trying to reach his back. Over the past three months, we've had more than eight vet visits, x-rays, chiropractor adjustments, and laser treatments. Despite these efforts, his mobility remains impaired. We are now consulting an orthopedic specialist to assess the extent of the damage. Despite communicating with the business, they stand by their groomer's 20+ years of experience and continue employing them. We fear for other dogs' safety. Please protect your pets and be cautious. This place was so awesome! I went here on a Saturday, immediately after picking up my dog from the kennel and him smelling like he had peed everywhere. I've never had him smell so bad after picking him up from the kennel (that's something I'll be talking to the kennel owner about because we have been customers there for 13 years). Brought both of my dogs here today. Excellent experience. Very reasonable pricing, they were also really quick, less than four hours for my two German shepherd dogs to have a bath + nail trim. Brought my lab here to do a self wash. Tjis place was soooo dirty! The tub was filthy, full of dog hair and dirt, dirty brushes, i told them i haven't been here before and one lady barley told me how tge process works. I was trying to get my dog up the latter to the tub struggling, then a lady came over aggressively handled my dog pushing him, I had to grab her wrist to let go of my dog. I couldn't believe her aggression!!!! I would have left but my dog had river mud all over him and i dont have the right shower to wash him at home. The whole place was filthy and plies of hair every where. I could see the same lady grooming a dog and handling him aggressive and scolding it. Poor dog was sooo scared!! Awful place. We recently had an experience at Soapy Paw that unfortunately will force us to never return. We had two phone numbers on file and when we dropped our dog off we specified to the front desk attendant which number to call once our dog was done. This phone number did not receive a phone call until shortly after the business closed at 5pm and that person impatiently told us that she had reached out to the other number on file multiple times. We made it back to Soapy Paw around 6pm and the front desk attendant, Carol was upset that we had not picked up the phone when she called. However, she said she realized she had called the number that we specified not to call. Essentially, she admitted to being in the wrong on miscommunication but was upset with us for not just knowing to show up since they closed at 5pm. Huh? She tried to charge us a late fee and we refused. She told us that even though we didn't get the call until after 5pm we should have known to come pick up our dog because we should have known the business closed at 5pm. Again, Huh? We left and commented that this experience would likely mean we would not return and the next part is what assured that for us... she replied simply with, "no you will not return". She had plenty of opportunity for service recovery and failed any attempt to remedy the situation or find a mutual solution. Took my Bulldog here last month and although they did a fine job, I was taken aback by the fact that it was so chaotic and (dare I say it) dirty! I am used to getting my dog's nails done at his vet where everything is clean, tidy & sterile (but also WAY overpriced) so maybe I am out of my element here? The lady doing his nails was friendly and the lady who greeted me at the door (I believe the owner) was also very friendly but I left dissatisfied for some reason. Is it normal for a place like this to keep the dogs in stacked crates against the wall while they wait their turn? Just seems like a strange practice to me, but again...what do I know? read more

I take my dog here to the self wash as he isn't a fan of baths at home, and he will jump out of the tub. At Soapy Paw, for $18, you can use their self service dog wash stations. Wednesdays from 1-4pm is Happy Hour and the price is $10 for a self serve wash. The self wash stations include a shampoo sprayer and water hose to rinse your dog with. They also provide brushes (which I don't use as they don't look clean and are full of dog hair) and they also provide ear cleaner. I always bring my own shampoo and products as my pup has sensitive skin. They provide aprons to wear while bathing your dog and provide towels as well. The tubs are up quite high, too high for my dog to jump, so I use their portable stairs to help my pup get into the tub. What I do like is that the tubs have neck slips you can put on your dog to orient them how you'd like and keep them from jumping out of the tub, which would solve all my problems if my tub had those at home. The facility isn't the cleanest or most organized, and the staff is mediocre. At the end of the day I am satisfied as I get my dog clean and tidy without the hassle and mess at home. I don't think I would bring my dog here to get groomed based on the appearance of the facility and staff, but it does the trick for getting my pup clean. read more

I'd never take my Akita anywhere else but Soapy Paw. They are the best! The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. They do an amazing job on my big dog. They spend a lot of time with him and he always comes out of there as happy as a clam! It's very clean and organized in the shop. They take good care of their shop. Sandra & Erica are the owners and they are incredible. Shannon is always the person who grooms my Akita as she has experience with the breed. She rocks the dog grooming world for my pooch! :) He loves her. They love dogs at Soapy Paw! Any place that will treat my dog as their own is high in my books. He always comes away with a cute scarf on his neck which just adds to the charm! The place where I work, I see a lot of dogs. There was a BABY (like, can't talk or barely walk, human baby) ON THE FLOOR... PLAYING AROUND THE DOGS, AND THE COPIOUS PILES OF HAIR (oh, and dumping the contents of his moms purse all over the ground for my happy pup to investigate.. My dog hates kids ((his past family wasn't the best but we are working on it)) so if I hadn't led my dog away from the bubbly baby boy and the piles of goodies my dog could've possibly hurt him. Not cool dog groomer with no baby sitter, not cool. I felt bad for the kid, and the dogs. Not all dogs want to be around babies. This is a disaster waiting to happen! People drop scissors, tools, nail clippers. Babies put things in their mouths.. See where this is headed? Yea me too and it isn't good. The fact that it's so insanely filthy inside is overwhelming. And I am not one of those "clean ocd people" (although I wish I was sometimes). It simply seems UNSANITARY. Their prices for self wash need to be lowered. 18$ to wash my own (corgi sized mix breed) dog? Their self wash price should be like 10$ to 15$ MAXIMUM! Especially due to their lack of cleanliness and organization (WHERE IS THE DRIER? ((Crappy drier, doesn't even get warm, incapable of completely drying my dog in a decent amount of time to hog a drier, is there only ONE DRIER?!)) CAN I HAVE A CLEAN TOWEL PLEASE? I NEED A ZOOM GROOM FOR MY SHORT HAIRED POOCH, DO YOU HAVE ONE?) (I had to go home and wrap my dog in a blanket for a couple hours to dry him out more. Their dryer, BLOWS) Pun intended. My boyfriend and I discovered this gem through an offer by Amazon Local. Our two dogs are 70 lb mutts and bathing them at home is quite the chore! We've gone there twice now to use their self bathing service and both times it's been a pleasure (well, as pleasurable as washing a dog can be!) The raised tubs save me from having to go to the chiropractor afterwards, and I absolutely LOVE the showers that dispense shampoo and warm water at the same time. It makes it so easy to quickly wet and soap up the dog, saving them a good amount of stress. They don't have the walk in tubs there, but the staff is always helpful in lifting the dog into the tub, or BACK into the tub after the dog decides to make a break for it! I was also impressed with the skill in which they professionally clipped my dogs' nails. My male shepherd/malamute mix can get a bit feisty, but one of the groomers just gave him a quick look that somehow instantly settled him. I wish they could teach me that! My female pit/shepherd mix is terrified of getting her nails clipped, but they've been able to not only clip her nails, but use the electric trimmer on her paw pad hairs and the dremel to smooth her nails, and she just stands there calmly. I highly recommend this to all dog owners in the area that truly love their dogs, but don't necessarily love having to mop up wet dog hair from their bathroom floors after bathing them! I would give this place a 5 star for sure. I take my dog there regularly to get his nails clipped and have never had a problem getting right in and out for a nail clip. I was needing my dog to have the works done and called on a whim. They were very nice and got him in and out in a couple hours. He is as clipped, cleaned, and sent on his way with a Christmas handkerchief. So cute! read more

This is coming from someone who used to trim nails as part of my job as a veterinary assistant. My dog behaves better getting her nails trimmed by other people, as a lot of owners will agree that their dog behaves better in another environment by another person. We took my dogs here about ten years ago and got horrible service, our dogs (who are very good and always cooperate) would get razor burn, bad haircuts, and get cut on their nails too short so they bled. I saw the good reviews recently, and thought it would be so convenient to be able to take my dogs in town again for their grooming. It sounded like new management, and everyone said Soapy Paw was just awesome! But that is not the case. My dog, who has anxiety with getting her nails trimmed, got cut SEVERAL times by the technician. My dog was crying and whining the whole time, but the lady never once pet her or even talked to her. She was so rude as I tried to calm my dog. My dog never nipped at her, growled, or anything. She was just scared and would whine while staying still. Nevertheless, the woman scolded my dog for whining and said, "Now don't you try to bite me like the other dogs," and that was the only thing she said to her the whole time. I worked in the vet field, and would understand being nervous if the dog was growling or struggling, but she wasn't. My dog who already hates getting her nails trimmed got traumatized by this woman who kept making her bleed, never petting her or doing anything to calm her down! I am appalled that people bring their animals here. It was cheap, but so incredibly horrible. I will never put my dogs through them again, I feel so bad for them. The only reason I didn't walk right out again after coming in the door here to bathe my dog was because the vet said he needed a medicated shampoo bath right away (for a staph skin infection) and it was getting late in the day. This place is a mess. The staff is nice enough, but the tub (which was "cleaned and ready" for me) was not clean at all, the apron (which I couldn't even find until I was done) was on the single hook buried under 4 or 5 towels, there was no place to hang or put a coat or bag, and stuff is piled haphazardly all over the place. This is the worst dog wash place I've ever been in. read more

I have gone to soapy paws twice now and they did a fine job as far as I can tell with my dog but the place is chaotic and filthy. There is so much cleaning and organization that needs to be done there. Dirty laundry in every corner. The place does not match the image they project online. The small space they have has nothing to do with the mess. Things are not getting done in an organized fashion. I was going to a place in mukilteo that was smaller but neat as a pin. I think I will be going elsewhere to find. Place that is run smoother and has better customer service. The other issue I have is that they do business without computers and do not have a stream line way of calling up appointments. They look through a bunch of papers. not professional. read more

The first time I used this groomer, she cut the skin on my dog and I had warned her about his cysts on his skin when I left him there with his sister to be groomed. Ok I figured it was an accident and decided to use her again BUT after I took my dogs home, I was holding my male dog when I felt knots in his fur under his chin and on his neck. I took him into the bathroom and looked at his neck and it was BRIGHT RED WITH INFLAMMATION!! I was SHOCKED!!!!! I cut off some of the fur to get the knots out but I don't have a clue what the gummy stuff that caused the knots were!!!! After cutting off what I could without cutting into his skin, I washed his neck and lower jaw with a gentle soap and lithium. The gummy stuff came off but I wish to God I could post pictures of his neck!!!! To think I traveled 47 miles round trip to have this groomer ABUSE my dog this way makes me sick!!! And to pay $108 plus a tip for the abuse is ridiculous!!!! His feet are all red as well and their is an open cut from scissors cutting off a flat piece of skin on top of his foot!!!! I've had other groomers, in other cities, who do the poodle cut on his feet without him being hurt!!!! My dog is very gentle and happy go lucky, every groomer loves working on both of them!!!! So I would STRONGLY NOT recommend this business. They are very nice but they sure as hell do not know how to groom dogs!!!! read more

So I waited until Saturday which they say they are open, drive all the way there only to find they're closed. The site says they're open so wtf? A very good grooming salon. They do a wonderful job on the animals they groom and care about each animal individually. The staff is friendly and caring, and they know what they're doing. They take good care of the animals while they're there and make sure they are doing good. They also pay close attention to each dogs individual needs, like say I have a dog with skin allergies and it needs medicated shampoo, they will make sure that only medicated shampoo is used. They'll also use your dogs own shampoo. To me they are reasonably priced with good service. This is my favorite grooming salon! read more

The only reason I am giving this place a star is there is no other option. I came here to give my 2 dogs a bath...the store smells horrible, it is very ill kept: dirty sinks, brushes, and cages. My dogs were lucky to come out without fleas or disease. Someone helped me get my big dog up a ladder, to the sink as I said I needed help, but they all stood and watched me struggle to get him down. The whole time I was there the groomers complained about who was going to take another dog for grooming, and I paid for this experience? I took my little dog for the first time to Soapy Paw last Saturday and I tell you they did a great job, I have never seeing him so well groomed. Rosemary did the work and we love it. When I made the appointment I talked to Erica, she is very nice, so is everybody else there. I used to take my dog to PetSmart, and not only spent more money on the grooming but on gas too. I took my cousin's dog to The Soapy Paw because she was in dire need of grooming. She is a senior dog with long hair and was extremely matted and muddy. My cousin was nervous about getting her groomed because of her rough condition. When we went to pick her up, you could tell her dog felt as good as she looked. My cousin was actually brought to tears by how happy her dog looked. She said, "She looks like a puppy!". The whole experience was great. I wish I could give this place 5 stars because I really did like the owners whom I met after having to take my Shih Tzu back in to get fixed after the lady who groomed her did a terrible job. To start with, when I took my puppy in for the first time, the lady who groomed my dog did not offer any style advise for my dog...I really did not know the styles well as far as the differences between puppy cut and teddy bear cut, etc. she offered nothing to help. She kind of just stood there looking at me as I tried to explain to her that I did not have much experience with hair cuts/trims for Shih Tzus. My dog was there for about 5 hours just to be bathed and trimmed so it was evident to me that she was in a kennel for most of those hours (not ok). When I went to pick her up, the lady who groomed her didn't even bother getting her out of the kennel before expecting payment. so I had no idea what she looked like. When she did get her, I thought she looked quite funny. I thought in my head that her face looked like a Poodle's face, not a round, cute Shih Tzu face but I didn't say anything out loud. That evening, my 15 year old son said "She looks like a Poodle!" my other kids all made comments about her looking "funny". Her facial hairs had been cut down quite short along both sides of her nose, the hair on top of her head (above eyes) was crinkly and too long, giving her a kind of wild look, and the groomer had not trimmed the hair under her belly, tail, anal area, or her legs. When I took her in to show the owners, they agreed that the groomer had not done a good job and took her to a table and spent about 25 minutes working on her and fixing her. To their credit, they were very nice and gave me a $10 gift card to PetPros and told me to request one of them cut her next time. I know that you can request they do a quicker job which I will make sure I do if I bring my Shih Tzu back in there. I probably will just because I liked the owners so well. It wasn't their fault one of their groomers messed up but hopefully they train their groomers to provide better (more helpful), friendlier customer service than what I received at my initial visit. Thankfully, my dog's facial hair has grown back out and she doesn't look like a Poodle anymore. read more
