I have been a fan since I was in middle school and they had a very large collection that was well curated. Why three stars then? The actual atmosphere of the museum sucks. It takes up half of what used to be the exhibition hall at the Old Arlington convention center. And it looks like it. It also sounds like it. When we were here the other half of the area was being used for the Smurfs experience. Which I totally support and there were lots of young people having a blast. And you could hear all of them. A long with sounds from their experience. I love museums, but they have a certain type of atmosphere for a reason. They were in the old JC Penny building in downtown Arlington for ages. It was old and rather worn, but it didn't feel like you were in a convention hall, I preferred it. Also, parking is $10. Didn't see that on their website, and it would be helpful when you were looking up the location that they mention they are inside the esports arena or the old convention center. It isn't obvious.

I stumbled upon this on my way down the highway and decided to explore it. It was definitely worth it! Some of the wax figures look nothing like the real people but it definitely adds to the fun. They had way more in this location than I expected and they even had a haunted house at the end. It was truly a great time!

We spent around 3 hours to do all of them and that is when I did a 2nd walk around with the wax museum and Mr. Ripley's. They do have snacks and a gift shop as well. This includes the following 1. Mirror Maze (you can do as many times as you want) 2. Power Play 3. Wax Museum 4. Mr. Ripley's Believe it or Not 5. 7D Theatre with a shooting game Mirror Maze - this takes around 10-15 minutes to do. You have to wear gloves as you can use your hands to touch. I would definitely walk slowly on here as it is easy to bump into the mirror and hurt yourself. But once you find out the secret you can do the maze without hands. We had a fun time in here. There was a selfie room too. But I would take your time in here. Power Play - this is a shooting game that takes 5 minutes per game. You can can choose one selection. There was no line so we ended up playing 3 times. The guns do not work really well and the aiming is off. The con is you can get dizzy playing too. 7D Theatre - This moving chairs and a gun where you can shoot. The theatre holds around 14 people and small. I had a fun experience with this game. There are two games too bad we could not play the other one like the robot Wax Museum - this is the one I spent a lot of time on and had most fun. Some of the wax figures can be hideous and not look like each other. Donald Trump did not look like him and looked like a zombie. The other presidents looked alright. It does have an old smell to it. The haunted house was pretty cool, but scary to. You can opt out if you want. This is probably the main star of this place. Mr. Ripley They have some fun activities to do. It is a museum of oddities and you can learn some facts along the way. I thought it was alright. This is more of the kids I think. Overall, a great experience and something to do. Do not forget to visit the outdoor section where they have dinosaurs.

You will learn the extreme lengths Michelangelo went to over 4 years to create these paintings. You will see up close the fine detail and will learn where Michelangelo's self portrait is and why he portrays himself this way. Do NOT SKIP the audio device. I bought a VIP package, and the clerk only gave me the option to scan a bar code and listen on my cell. I did not being ear buds so this was a waste to me. Later, as the exhibit got busier, I saw the audio devices, so that was annoying that I wasn't given that option. Finally, the paintings followed a good flow but the informational panels and accompanying audio are numbered and the numbers do not match the flow. The hand held devices could simply scan in. I had to scroll through a website. I also did not like the lighting. While this is a temporary exhibit, the lighting could have been improved. I was not impressed with the exposed extension cords. Each exhibit had a stand alone light fixture, and most of the cord was tucked away. But the plugs were exposed. Finally the light itself was harsh. It looked good on the wall, but was glaring when you needed to read the informational panel. I bought a book for $12 at the end. It essentially shows each panel separately and contains the same information as the wall description. I would have loved to have this in my hand while walking through. Finally, don't miss the video presentations. I do recommend this exhibit. If they would spend a little extra effort, I would make it a high recommend.

After waiting in line at the check-in and going through a metal detector we were directed to a waiting room where a friendly employee explained that there was a mysterious story that you could try to figure out or you could just explore. Then they led us into the room to start exploring at our own pace. It was a really cool experience and full of creatively fun art. It was definitely an out of this world experience. After spending a few hours exploring we briefly visited the souvenir shop. We didn't get anything but they do have a variety of things to purchase. Overall The Real Unreal Meow Wolf is worth a visit if you like hands on experiences with a mysterious story that you can try to figure out while enjoying the creative art work.

Still, we spent 90 minutes, and, to be fair, we wondered if Meow Wolf is like heroin, and fans try to get that "first hit" feeling that will never come. But, to borrow from my Santa Fe review: Meow Wolf is the love child of a Choose Your Own Adventure Picture Book mixed with a carnival funhouse maze, and is to art what food trucks are to food.
