My boyfriend planned a surprise date for us, and we had an appointment at 1:30. The appointment was not a lesson. We showed up early, about 1:10-1:15. There was only one lady working, and no other customers. She told us to pick our design we want to paint and seated us. From the time we sat down with our easels and paint, it took 45 minutes for her to let us start. She couldn't figure out how to send a tutorial video to our phones, and eventually figured out that a video doesn't exist for the paintings we picked. Neither of us are artists, but my boyfriend planned the date because he knows I like painting. When he started his painting, it didn't look much like the reference photo. The lady came over and wiped it off his canvas with a napkin and told him to paint over it in white and redo it. At this point we are both very annoyed bc she has already taken forever and micromanaged how we mix our paints. For the remainder of the session, she is micromanaging what my boyfriend does. Telling him he's doing something wrong, or how he could do it differently. She then tells us the studio closes at 4, and we have to leave by then. Which is RIDICULOUS considering we showed up early and she took forever to set us up. She also told us we're more than welcome to walk to Kroger down the street if we want a drink. Very awkward. When it got close to 4, she sat down with my boyfriend and basically finished his painting to get us out of there. I called the manager about it, and the most she would do is offer a 10.00 off coupon.... As if we would go back. This was meant to be a fun experience, but the lady totally ruined it. You helped us all match our skin tones to our characters and asked questions in the most respectful way possible to gain understanding and be politically/racially correct not only for our class but for your classes moving forward. I went to an event here July 8th as an employee team building exercise. Patrick was our instructor. He was unwilling to answer questions or repeat instructions to anyone in the group he dubbed a 'Type A' personality. He acted as if it pained him to give extra supplies like napkins to the 'Type A' people. I felt singled out and immediately disliked by this man. I really had a good time here. I went with a private party, so I am not sure what the procedure is for just walking in for one of their classes. The hostess of our party had already picked a painting, so they had them drawn out already and we utilized a big room for all of us. However they had another huge private party going on (I never saw those people, I only heard them) and then the walk in party that was right beside us. It's always BYOB and they are sweet enough to provide ice and corkscrews. I will say that it's pretty expensive, but I had fun. I suppose if I had done it on my own I would have tried to find a groupon. BUT I did have so much fun getting my paint on. Let me first start off by saying this was such an amazing business from top to bottom! My co-workers and I all signed up for a private party, which had to be 10 or more people. When you think about it seemed like a lot coming from a small business with not that many girls, but it was not hard at all to find some girlfriends/family to bring to the painting class to have fun PLUS wine involved... WIN WIN situation.:) We chose to do the Cherry Blossom picture, which took a while for everyone to agree on one because we liked SO many of them! They had a seperate room for us, with a door to close out all our loud sounds & laughter so the other class didnt have to hear it! (which I thought was nice & courteous) Amy, the owner was our instructor, and right off the bat she gave us the "Rules"... BASICALLY they were just HAVE FUN, RELAX and don't worry because everyones painting's were going to come out wonderful... and I thought they all did! She was very warm & inviting and we all had a really great time and we just went last night and were all ranting & raving how we want to go back again! I have done 5 paintings at this location and I love it. I used to paint at a competitor but then I found PWAT and fell in love! They have so many paintings to choose from. The staff is fun and spunky. My first trip in was by myself and I felt right at home. I had a great time. Met a girl in the class and we exchanged numbers and now we try to go together. I have also gotten several of my friends to go with me. When I felt like just doing my own thing they even let me sit in the class and paint my own pictures as long as I used the color pallette they provided. And I have to say I was happy with my personal creations as well! I find this therapeutic and have recommended it to all my friends, guys and girls alike. It is fun going and meeting new people and seeing how we all give the paintings a little different perspective, our personal signature as one of the instructors said. The other thing I love about it is that they draw on many of the hard parts of the pictures in pencil so that you have an outline to start with and you don't have to totally stress out. Other schools I've been too started with a white canvas and you had to do it all on your own and being a complete novice, this totally stressed me out! I always look at all location because each location has something different. She was so happy to go, she had so much fun there. I have been to other Painting with a Twist locations and usually had a lot of fun. This time I am sad to report I did not have a good time. The class started at 7 and we started at least 15 minutes late because other patrons had not shown up. When the instructor finally started the class, she seemed highly irritated and rushed through the painting, and when we would ask if she could move slightly so we could see what she was doing she would say "thats ok this is an open piece" and continue. At other locations, they go step by step for each piece and stop along the way to make sure no one is left behind, but many of us were standing around confused and just hoping we were doing it right. She didnt ding the bell (she actually handed it off to someone else because she said "i am totally bad at this, someone else do it") or even crack a joke to lighten the mood. She even made the comment "oh I rushed through this so, uh, if anyone wants to add something extra to their painting let us know and we can walk around and coach you through it". On top of that, my drivers license, credit card and debit card were stolen at my purse while in class. I arrived before 7 (and yes I am 110% sure my stuff was in there before I got to the location, because I had just come from my house) and set my bag on the designated bag and coat rack and did not leave the location until 9pm. When I checked my phone at the end of the class I had received several fraud alert notices at 8pm, and when I checked my purse and lo and behold, ALL of my stuff was gone. The thieves ran up $1,100 between my two cards. I called the owner and informed her that she should contact people in the class to let them know of the theft and to check their belongings, but she did not want to "tarnish her business" and that "2 instructors are in the class room at all times" (which they were not, when we started the class one of my friends walked in and hadn't checked in because no one was behind the desk, and we took a break at some point and they were hanging out outside the room by the register for a good amount of time chatting amongst themselves) so she refused to do so. So I am posting it here and on Facebook for people to be aware. Never mind the fact that I was at her business from 7-9 and did not leave, so someone there had to have stolen my stuff while I was at the facility, that did not seem to phase her. I filed a police report with Arlington Police Department. Overall, if you chose to do Painting with a Twist I suggest another location, as the instructors are more fun at the other ones (I suggest Grapevine!) and if you choose to bring any personal belongings, be VERY WARY about who is around you in class or do not bring anything at all. The owner would rather safeguard her business than the safety of her patrons! read more

I love Painting with a Twist. I've accumulated a wall of paintings in the short time I've known about them. I can't recommend them highly enough! The instructors (artistic inspirations) are SO wonderful at giving the descriptive direction to make each and every piece of art my own. While every piece of art will turn out differently because each artist is different, the experience is really great. I would recommend this to everyone even if you "think you can't paint". I've been there with several "non-painters" and they all have left with their painting in hand and a big smile on their faces! I have to fight the urge to paint every weekend. It really is a joy to hang out with friends and paint. What a great concept, and Painting with a Twist is THE BEST of these "type" of places. I sat next to two groups of people, both were super nice and friendly. We had a blast painting our pictures and the instructor made is fun and easy. She came around and gave us pointers and help. Went with a party of 6 & had no problem with seating our group together. Instructor explained every step well and assisted when needed. She also had a way of letting all the people who had never painted before feel comfortable with whatever they wanted to do. I attended the class by self as away to escape all the testosterone in my home, and wow did I have a great time. Of course this was my first time painting since probably kindergarten, and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice my painting turned out. I amazed myself....Go Girl!!!!! Can't wait to return in a couple of weeks. Having a date night with my TEENAGE son :-) and after seeing my painting last night he is so excited. The coolest thing is I can go in on Saturday morning and modify anything I didn't like about my painting, but after letting it sit overnight I'm not changing a thing. YES! As good as it gets is the truth! I love this place! I love the concept, the artists/instructors and I love the owner. I have done close to 20 paintings through them now. My very first time to paint was by means of having a private 40th birthday party at PWAT. It's BYOB, so my friends and I all brought snacks and drinks and had a complete BLAST! I chose the Moonlit Cherry Blossoms from the library of paintings.... mainly because I lovelovelove purple and it looked easy enough for all of us newbies. The instructor was a ton of fun (Victoria). We had a private room, so we weren't bothered by the other class going on. Some paintings are a little more difficult, therefore they cost more ($45) and last longer (3 hours).. but start the the 2 hour class for $35. The instructor guides you step by step... rings a bell to remind you to lighten up (or take a drink). Trust me (even though you have no idea who I am) YOU CAN PAINT! Super fun, super easy, super addicting!!! read more

Had the worst night at paint your pet. Instructors Chris and Jan were not helpful at all with our party of 6. Chris was more interested helping his table of friends for 45 mins than making rounds to all customers. At the end they promised to help with details and left our pics unfinished and I explained to him and he began to yell at me so I also called the owner Amy explained the night and she said " I'm taking their side not the customer" this location was very unprofessional , I recommend not visiting this location. read more

Hi Yelpers, this is my least favorite type of review to write. I have been to another Painting With a Twist location and had a very different experience, but I feel I must warn you given my recent experience at the Arlington location. I am not sure if the instructor was new or if she was having a bad night, but she lost control of the class and at times herself. People were constantly coming and going and at times the instructor was almost yelling at the class. I ran out of some of my paint and could not ever get more despite asking for it. My painting turned out ok, but I had to copy from the one hanging on the wall. The music and the atmosphere was lively. I have heard that private parties are much better, but after this experience I suggest that people enter the Arlington Painting With a Twist at their own risk. It seems to be quite inconsistent. My experience at the Arlington location was a nightmare from start to finish. One of my friends has a vision issue and requested seating near the front; this accommodation was not made. The instructor rushed through the instructions and lost several of us near the beginning, so we were left to figure out what to do on our own. Several of us actually ran out of paint and had to borrow paint from our neighbors since staff would not provide additional paint. The instructor could not handle a large class and clearly lost her composure several times. At one point she knocked her own painting off of her easel. When many of us were hurrying to complete an instruction, she became upset and said, "I said everyone's brush needs to be in the water now!" Later, she asked if everyone was caught up with her and several people in the class replied "no." So she replied, "Great, so here's what we are doing next." At another point she let the class have a break and then restarted the class even though several people were using the restroom because they had to wait in line for it. The only good thing I can say is that the music was enjoyable. My recommendation is that you save your time and your money and avoid Painting With A Twist. If I could give the Arlington Painting With A Twist zero stars I would, but the worst yelp allows is one star. To sum up: 1) Vision issue request was not accommodated 2) Instructor lost patience with class and left many of us behind 3) Ran out of paint- had to borrow from neighbors 4) Arlington location seems to be very inconsistent 5) Rather than responding to legitimate negative reviews, this business owner seems to flag negative reviews and get them blocked read more

Went to PWT for my niece's 14th birthday. She had a blast and so did her aunt's and grandmother. You sit on stools but we called ahead and told them our mother could not sit on a stool for 2 hours so they had a regular chair for her. My mom is also hard of hearing so had problems hearing the instructor but did her own thing and the instructor was perfectly fine with that. She had a blast and so did we. It was a little harder than we thought but the instructor was very helpful and very kind. We will do this again. read more

I very recently went to Painting with a Twist in Arlington for a birthday party and I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun it was. I do feel that the entry fee is too high so if there is a e-coupon, then definitely take advantage of it . The instructor was so easygoing, inspiring and helpful. Explanations of the paint brushes and tips and tricks were very concise and understandable. You do feel like an aspiring artist. They have plenty of room for large crowds and you can bring food/snacks/"spirits", which adds to the light atmosphere. One peeve I had was how difficult it was to find this place as it's not remotely visible from the street. I finally took my chances and drove into a shopping center where Krogers was, and found it. Another thing that's not really well communicated is that your seat must be reserved prior to arriving and prepayment is required. I'm assuming this is to avoid receiving payment upon arrival but the only accepted methods of payment is Visa, Mastercard and Discover. I feel that a Paypal option should definitely be added for more convenience and security. All in all, great alternative for a fun outing. read more
