My wife and I had lunch here the other day. We have been here many times in the past with complete satisfaction. We have always been very happy with everything. This visit was particularly good. I had the lasagne and Kathy had the wedge salad. Both were fantastic. So the food was great! The service was extraordinary. We were served by Kass. She is fabulous. Her sparkly personality and over the top professionalism made this a great experience. We also spoke with the manager (I wish I could remember her name) that has been with Smashed olive for only about two months. She is doing a great job and we can see the difference she makes. The decor and overall comfort of the dining and bar areas are above and beyond excellent. It was a cold day so the fireplace made it even more cozy. Went for an late lunch early dinner. Took my wife. It was festively decorated. We sat in a mostly uncrowded main dinner room, with a nicely adorned fireplace wall. Rich wood cladded horseshoe shaped soffit on the ceiling bringing the focus back to that sitting area. They started off with a complementary olive tapenade with pita bread. The bar staff took our order for drinks and also provided water. My wife had a chicken Saltumbucco dish & I had a seared salmon fillet in a bed of steamed spinach and lemons wine reduction bed of rice. Afterwards, I had a cappuccino. My wife abstained. The food was great. Very flavorful. The cappuccino was one of the better ones I have had. Thick foam with a hint of cinnamon and a flavorful espresso and milk. The ambiance is nostalgic, a mix between a nice Italian restaurant with a bar area. The staff were very nice. The gluten free options were very yummy!! The waiter even put in a gluten free olive tapenade and pita order for me without me asking. The gluten free fried calamari was good. The gluten free chicken parm was amazing!!!! The name says it all. I mean seriously who likes smashed olives. We came on a Saturday night with no reservation we opted to sit at the bar after being offered a table in a busy/tight walkway next to the kitchen and bathrooms. They bring you smashed olives and warm bread for a starter, I do not like olives so I didn't eat it. I asked the bartender for a drink recommendation that was not sweet and went with the white linen. It took about 15 minutes for the cocktails to arrive and I was confused when I got mine because it was purpose and very sweet but because it took so long I didn't say anything ... it took me the entire two hours we were there to drink it. We chose the whipped ricotta for the starter and I was so confused when it came out it was ice cold. The bread was cold the honey was barely there and honestly it was unbearable. It felt like an eternity for our food to come out I went with the short rib and my friend got the shrimp linguini. When my plate arrived I instantly knew it wasn't going to be good the short rib was in a pool of gravy and I saw not a trace of salt or pepper. My first bite was so bland I could have cried. Nothing had seasoning the meat, potatoes or broccoli. I was starving but I sent it back. The bartender and the someone else offered the menu to order something else but after the drink and the starter I was over it. When the bill came and I looked at it I was more disappointed I was given the wrong the drink, it was the lychee. Unfortunately, I would not visit the smashed olive again. read more

The ambiance at the Smashed Olive is cozy and warm. We were very pleased with the lunch we had at there. Our waitress, Juliette gave us excellent service. She was very nice!! They gave us a yummy amusement made of Pita triangles with their delicious smashed olives. Our meals came quickly as did the beverages. The portions are large. Fantastic meal! Service was a bit slow starting out it was a Saturday night and they were busy but the meal made up for it. Everything we got was delicious and perfect. Love it here! The menu is extensive and the food is delicious. My favorite is the frutti di mare. The wine on tap is something unique and enjoyable. A good variety of craft beer is also available. Went to the Smashed Olive for the first time for a quick bite on a Wednesday afternoon. Nice outdoor seating, but was grateful to be eating inside on that super hot day! Interior is well designed and very classy. I ordered a chicken sandwich, which was excellent and a generous portion for myself. The bread it was on tasted homemade! My daughter loved her chicken meal as well. I also ordered a glass of the house red wine, which was very good. The waitress, Jess, and the hostess, Sarah, were so incredibly kind and very attentive! Food was great but we had made a reservation and we walked in right in time and told them we were there. A bunch of people walked in after us and they gave our table to a group who did not have a reservation. We ended up sitting in the bar but definitely not ideal with two kids. Went here recently for a date night based on the reviews. I wanted to like this place more. The olive tapenade they give is delicious, but everything else was just okay. The service was really slow, might have just been an off night seeing as others really like it. I don't believe the prices reflect the quality of food. Everything was relatively high for what it was. Started with the complimentary olive tamponade and the warm pita, nice touch. The fried calamari was fresh not frozen and the best I have ever eaten. Lightly battered and a large portion. The ribeye was cooked as requested and the grill platter, ribs shrimp and hanger steak was also delicious. Chef Dawn the owner obviously is experienced and is sure to serve quality food that is prepared with an interesting flair. If you desire a burger, salad, chicken pasta or fish I would not hesitate to order anything on the menu. Cocktails hit the spot and the wine pours were generous. Go and enjoy. stopped by on way home, ate here years ago when it was another restaurant...it was a nice find and happy to see it reopened (march 2022). Had the apple Brie sandwich...very good! We also had the pot pie, the filling was excellent but my daughter did not really care for the "pie". My husband had the braised beef which was also very tasty. This is my new favorite place. Stopped in for a quick bite for lunch and had a super professional Burger. It was super juicy and had bacon on it. The garlic Parmesan fries that came with it were so awesome. They were crispy and flavorful. I just recently moved to Washington... this looks like a beautiful building and the menu seems super delicious sounding. I think I've maybe posted twice on Yelp... because even if I go to a restaurant I'm not satisfied with ..I won't go to the length of leaving a review... unless I think my visit was really that bad. It was. We ordered the charcuterie board. Parts of the cheese was hard.. it had sliced olives from a can and instead of "seasonal jam" it was apple sauce. I've had many a charcuterie board ... THIS was was honestly shocking and laughable. Run to ShopRite across the street and get some nice olives and fig jam for god sake. We also ordered the beef Wellington bites. again I don't normally bother putting out a review but the description of the beef Wellington bites didn't watch.. at all. Especially when you know what beef Wellington is. Honest to God this was puffed pastry with a piece of overcooked stew meat in the center... THAT. IS. ALL. This is by far one of the best restaurants we've been to in while. From the decor, to the staff to the food. The inside is beautiful and very clean. The staff was absolutely amazing, very friendly. Our waitress was Tricia and was great. We started off with the whipped ricotta appetizer and oh my lord was it delicious! Smooth and creamy, with just a bit of heat from the hot honey. It comes with bread, I could have eaten that as a meal. They also give you complimentary bread and olive tapenade. That was also delicious. I had the chicken, apple and Brie sandwich. I was concerned that the chicken was going to be a thick cutlet but it was thin and just a great combination of flavors. Boyfriend had the truffle burger which had mushrooms, cheese, truffle aioli, caramelized onions. Cooked perfectly. Was very good. Right from the start we were not valued as customers. Dining room had 2 other parties in it, tons of open tables and booths. It was 5pm, well before the 6pm rush and we asked for a booth because we had a baby with us. We were told no. During our meal, three other parties complained about their tables and on was given a booth - I guess we weren't as valuable as them. By the time we left there were MULTIPLE open booths still open from when we walked in. Food was OK. The prosciutto pizza was decent, but the special soft shell crab was inedible. Surprised the chef put it on the plate. It was supposed to be fried crispy it came out super wet and soggy and tasted funky. Chicken apple Brie sandwich was OK, fries were pretty good.
