I went on a Thursday for a boot fitting. Wanted to get boots and use rentals until next season. Nick assisted me in measuring my foot and then we went through a few pair to find ones that I liked. I ended up with the Atomic Hawx Prime 100x. They were molded to my foot in store and they are fantastic!! All the while Nick and I were chatting about hiking and skiing, and the conversation was great!! I then stood up and started looking at skis. Nick showed me which ones were good and which to avoid. The Volkl Revolt 95 caught my eye, but they are freestyle skis. Nick told me they are one of the best all-mountain skis he has seen for the price. He has a set and so do a couple other people in the store. He was very reassuring and had a lot of info and there was zero pressure. Looked at a couple of reviews online and the Volkl were the first skis I every bought for myself. Picked the Tyrolia Attack 11 bindings and they got to work setting them up. Kept talking with the staff and the great conversation made time fly by. Picked a helmet and some poles and away I went. The following Monday I went to Blue Mountain. I was nervous but it was great to just pick up my pass and ski, not having to get worn out rental skis. These skis are FANTASTIC. It upped my ability 10 fold. Cut nice, quick when I wanted it and easy to bite in to slow down when Needed it. I had the best day of skiing I've had in my 49 years. I went on trails I would have never went on before. But when It's your gear it is just an extension of yourself. All the years I skied I finally felt like a real skier. Thanks Ski Bum for an amazing day and setting me up with awesome skis and boots. I had a problem with the bladder in one of my ski boots. It tore almost in half as I pulled the boot on. The boots were about 2 years old and I was hoping to be able to buy a new bladder. The Ski Bum talked the manufacturer, Salomon, into replacing the boots at no charge. They couldn't replace them last spring when I brought the boots in because a replacement pair wasn't available. Duane told me they would notify me in the fall when new stock arrived. I had Duane on my list of people to call in December to check on the boots. HE CALLED ME IN NOVEMBER! My young son and i were just in there. The guy that greated us ended up squaring up towards up and staring at us the entire time. It was to the point where my son asked why he was staring at us and watching us. The employee was clear that he wanted to make us uncomfortable. I had to tell my son to ignore him and that we are in a minority group and it happens a lot when youre not of the majority race. I did let my son know to get used to it but that doesnt mean its right. If the intention was to see if we needed any help, he could have asked rather than a cold stare. My experience with ski bum and the quality of the products they ship on top of damaged boxes I was charged to return wasn't pleasant. It took this company over two weeks to ship my order and wouldn't allow cancellation when the product wouldn't arrive on time for my trip. Plus customer service is horrible. I called Ski Bum to have my boots repaired. When I called they said no problem just come bring the boots in. despite my request to verify they had the part they would not do it over the phone. I brought my boots in and they could not repair them. They may be able to order the part but would have to check and they would let me know. It has been a week and no answer. My next pair of boots will come from a reliable shop and not Ski Bum. read more

Been a loyal customer for many years. All gear and winter clothes for both me and my family were purchased from Ski Bum. That relationship just ended when "Santa" purchased me the recommended ski glove and additional liner for $160. Wore one time, fingers stayed cold, even with additional liners. Returned to store, only to be told there was nothing Ski Bum could or was willing to do for me. Ski Bum informed me that spending that kind of money on a pair of gloves only ensured quality of material and craftsmanship. Ski Bum offered to sell me a warmer glove, but an exchange was out of the question. After they demonstrated a warmer glove, I went elsewhere and made my purchase. My last dollar has been spent at Ski Bum. Will shop somewhere else where a long term relationship means something. read more

Was there today to purchase ski pants for my daughter, who is going snowboarding for the first time. Selection in Medium/Large/XLarge women's was very good - she runs between an XSmall and Small, and there was very little to choose from (we got the only pair of small ski pants that were less than $100 on the rack, and there were possibly 12 pairs of pants that ran in size from XSmall to Small). While I was prepared for a more limited selection simply because we're getting toward the end of the selling season for winter apparel, I wasn't prepared for the lack of courtesy from the staff. The first employee I saw was standing in the winter gear area & made eye contact with me. No nod, no greeting, no offer to assist, said nothing to acknowledge my presence (he was just standing there, not organizing a rack or doing anything else) and mumbled a hello after I smiled & said "Hi." We found the ski pants on our own, hunted through the rack until my daughter found a pair to try on. I was looking for the employee who was doing nothing & didn't see him when a young lady made eye contact with me (she was standing perhaps 5 feet away) as I said to my daughter, "The Fitting Rooms are here, we just need someone to let us in." The young lady looked past us and went over to assist someone else. After a moment of waiting by the fitting room door, my husband walked the 10 feet to the register and asked if it was possible to try something on. The clerk at the counter who unlocked the door for us wasn't rude, but he also had no interest in seeing if we were finding the items we needed and there was no follow up to see if the items my daughter tried on actually fit. Had we not been pressed for time in making a purchase I would have left the merchandise on the nearest possible surface and left. The cashier who rang us out actually spoke to us during the sale ("Is this it?" "Are you a member?" "Here's the keypad") and while not friendly, at least was not rude and didn't seem utterly disinterested in our presence. Bottom line - I've worked in retail, and had I treated customers coming into the store the way my family was treated today, I would have been let go, probably on the spot. This disinterest in assisting us was from 2-3 employees (not sure if the guy who opened the fitting room was the first employee I encountered or a different person.) The only thing I can recommend about shopping in the store is that there is selection there. It's mostly high end brands, so don't go looking for a deal. Be prepared to be helped at the whim of the employees, rather than if you need help, even if you are trying to ask for it. I may yet return the ski pants we bought today if I can find another pair that works for the same price or less. read more

This is a great shop with an excellent eye for what is current within the industry. Any time of the year you can walk in and talk to employees that are just as stoked on the snow and the products as you are. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk to. This place would do well if not better than some of the bigger named shops in New England if you were to plop it down in a ski town up north. read more

I wish I had checked the tennis offerings Ski Bum in Newark had before now, but what a consistently great experience for a tennis player! First, I got patient and knowledgeable (and high integrity) advice on restringing my racquets, customized to my activity level, age, and skill. The racquet was restrung better than when I first bought it. When I came back to pick it up, and BTW it was ready on time even over a weekend, the second salesperson knew exactly where it was, and I was in and out in 10 seconds with my racquet. It plays great.
