One of those moments when you are hesitant to enter and you friend convince to go inside and take a look. The reason of my doubtfulness to get into the store was fear. Fear that it was a too posh store for me and it would look weird to just say the classic 'just browsing today'. What a great surprise to find out that The Shop is, actually, a thrift shop. Posh, but second hand clothes at really good prices. Everything in the store is impecable, clean, well organized by colors and styles and in great state. I got 2 great deals that look simply fantastic on me (will post pics of that soon:). Got a jacket from Max Mara for just $20, very chic and fitting and another dark brown corduroy blazer for just $15 of no name brand but equally super fitting and flattering. I was beyond happy when I left the store. This is not your casual Salvation Army, this is high end stuff well taken care of at great prices (even the high brand with higher prices were not very expensive). read more

This is an update to my original five star rating from almost 20 years ago. The Shop was a wonderful local gem back then, but now, not so much. In the past year - since the new manager took over - The Shop has totally changed. Prices have gone way up, and the new manager is touting stuff like a whole "St. John's Knits" section which I really don't care about. I also notice that if I come in wearing my sweats & no makeup the manager doesn't say boo to me, but if I come in dressed to the nines then the manager is is super friendly, which I find shallow. She also has a weird policy on "Sales"; in the past, annual end-of-season sales were always promoted ahead of time. But the new manager insists on "flash sales" that aren't advertised, so you just have to stumble upon them by chance. All of this adds up to a poor shopping experience, so I rarely shop there now and I never donate anymore. Bring back the old manager, Robbie; she was wonderful, as are the employees who work there. In fact, the employees (outside of the current mgr) are the only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1. read more

I worked at The Shop for 14 years. I met the new manager Tracy 3 times prior to this incident and many more with her. I asked very nicely to use the bathroom. She said "The League Board" will not allow her to do so. I asked again and she said no customers are allowed. I said I worked here for 14 years and have met you before. She said "no" - I walked away shaking, because she was so odd and mean. I was battling breast cancer at the time also. I then walked back up and said who in The League said this, I 'd like to call them. In the 14 years I never ever did that to a customer. She got this very strange and odd facial expression and waived her arms and said "By all means Madam, please!" It was one of the strangest odd creepy interactions I've ever had in my life. I did use the bathroom. I did report her behavior and many more things to The League about her. She is not good for The Shop at all. I've spent a lot of money there. There are many many complaints about Tracy and I will never shop there again. The employees are very unhappy with her. She is condescending at best. This is the old Junior League behavior that should be shut down at this point in history. read more

** During Quarantine Review ** I love thrift shopping so when my good friend recommended this spot as a bay area gem I definitely wanted to check it out. On my visit I was able to browse in with no wait; however, I believe it's a limit of 7 shoppers at any given time. The selection is very well curated and the brands they carried were all very high end. Majority of the clothes looked as if they were maybe worn once and a number of them still had original price tags. I saw Tory Burch, MaxMara, Saint John, just to name a few. The few items I saw were in the size 6-10 range a tad larger than my go-to size. There was a brand new with tags J Crew White Pompon sweater that I was eyeing (Originally Priced $128) and it was priced at $50. It's certainly a bargain considering it still has the original tags, but the pricing of many garments looked closer to consignment prices as opposed to a thrift range. The prices here are much higher than what I'm use to, but if you have somewhere fancy to be, they will surely have something nice for you to wear! read more

I would have given 5 stars but i don't appreciate being booted out of the store minutes before closing. It wasn't 5 p.m. and i was told the store was closed now. I looked at my phone after the fact or o would have said something. The women in charge told me to "come back tomorrow...." Clearly I was there today because tomorrow wasn't an option. This is a nice looking thrift store. Goodwill it is not though. The stuff seems to be curated nicely. I was looking at their tea pot sets and other delicate items. They had these really nice plates with a gold leaf design that I liked. Prices are not cheap though; the tea sets were definitely like $50+ if not more. I also even saw a Tiffany's serving knife in the cabinet as well. They have clothing but I didn't really examine that section too closely. I did eye a pair of black leather boots that looked really sleek. It was $40 but what prevented me from buying it was no zipper (I need a zipper to fit into these boots). read more

I always enjoy popping in to see what The Shop has in stock. They are a higher-end resale shop that benefits the Junior League of Palo Alto-Mid Peninsula, a nonprofit training women to be leaders in our community, and that contributes to projects to get/keep girls and women in STEM careers. The Shop carries designer clothing, shoes, and accessories for men/women/children, but also mid-range items that are in style and in good condition. They have housewares including decorative items, dishes, china, glassware, candle sticks, etc. as well as books and a few nice children's toys. The team does a great job of curating their merchandise to only carry items in pristine condition. The end-of-season sales are pretty great, too. I've found a number of cute outfits, purses, shoes, and other items here! They are also really helpful if you want to donate items. Just ring the doorbell at the back door and they will help unload your items. You'll receive an itemized donation receipt by email afterwards, making it super easy to claim a tax deduction for your charitable gift. read more

Tiny little hole in the wall in the heart of beautiful and charming Menlo Park. The clerks have a heart of gold. Affiliated with the American Cancer Society so you're doing a good deed by donating there, or shopping there. The jewelry selection leaves much to be desired. Awe, The Shop. I did not realize it was here, until my friend's introduction. Vintage clothes, consignment clothes, shoes, home furnishings, nice finds to be had here. It's a step up from your regular thrift store, although much smaller and their prices here can bite. I agree that some things are overpriced for used clothing; at the same time, some are designer labels that actually don't look too out of fashion (what do I know, right?) I saw $3-$5 tops and $25 jeans; denim is priced too expensive for being used worn items (men's), and so are suit bottoms and slacks, after all, they are of specific length and sizes, hard to fit just anybody. Oddly, saw a short-sleeved men's shirt for $40... From GAP. I mean, it was hardly this expensive to begin with, and even if it was, likely marked down multiple times there, and available in a variety of sizes, and new! At the same time, my wife was able to get herself several tops the other day, which were almost new and didn't cost that much at all. All in all, the store is clean, well organized, being small, and it doesn't rig of that awful old clothe's grandma's closet that similar places often carry. In fact, this place looks more like a boutique shop, one might not realize it right away that they've just entered a used clothing place. That's a big plus! read more

SUPER CRAMMED in here!! The prices are definitely more reasonable here compared to Goodwill down the street. Jeans/pants all around $10. Diesel jeans for $10? What?? I cannot believe it. O_O But I feel it's a hit or a miss kinda spot... along with any other thrift store in town. I do feel a little claustrophobic whenever I walk into this store. There's barely any room to move in the front of the store. I do enjoy browsing at all the things here! And it's clean and doesn't smell!! I can always usually find treasures here! Last year I bought a blue leather skirt for $10 and to be quite honest the other thing I bought was also that cheap. So in essence it pays to shop their clearance racks. The Shop is a fresh and clean place to find gently used clothing and some lovely home decor pieces. You don't have to sift through battered clothing to find good buys. They are selective in what they sell and I find the prices appropriate for the quality and condition. read more

Donated better items from my closet and received a super fair tax receipt for my clothing, shoes, and home decor items. The staff (setting up an appointment, reviewing my items, correspondence afterwards) was excellent and really a pleasure to work with. I'll be sure to call The Shop for future donations to a good cause. read more

I walked in on a weekday afternoon - not busy at all, maybe one other person was browsing the store. THE STORE: Clean and well organized by color, until you realize the clothes are purely organized by color and not by size. Um, what? THE GOODS: The clothes were obviously secondhand, which is fine except I don't want to pay $25 for a used sweater. For the price, I could go to Marshall's and buy it new. THE SERVICE: When I walked in, the ladies working there didn't even look up from their incredibly important work of gossiping among themselves. What were they yapping about? Coworkers who weren't there and outfits of customers who were in there earlier. Seriously? You have a job in customer service? This place didn't feel like a vintage or secondhand store. It feels like a place where you'll get judged upon walking in and won't feel welcome unless you know the staff or are "a regular," though I can't imagine why anyone would want to be one. My little secret "shop" in the midst of beautiful, friendly Menlo Park. There are a lot of places to go in good old MP but this is my all time favorite, number one, all-time awesome place to get excellent, hi-end clothes for almost nothing. A place filled by charity-minded people who live locally and if you know this area, you know people are well-dressed, so the picking are always really good. Forget the Goodwill down the street, this kills it a million times over. The bottom line, to get right to the point as I know you want me to do is this, there are great clothes for women as it is woman-centered as most of these types of stores are. The staff is great and very helpful and the store gets a lot of new stuff every week so you can go back and search a lot. It used to be a lot better about 5 years ago but the prices have gone up and the selection down. Don't know why but I just have to be completely honest with you. Lots and lots of kids clothes, tons of neat little present like items you can buy and save up for the Christmas season or birthdays. Don't just shop here, give things back to them, especially you really fashionally dressed women who live to style. They can really use your clothes most of all. I have bought so much here over the years; shoes, coats, pants, ties, shirts, hats, watches, books, software, CD's and even a real piece of the Great Wall of China. Yes, I'm not kidding. I'm not a big thrifter, but I do appreciate a good local store. There is a higher quality selection here than most places, but it might have to do with the neighborhood. The selection is moderately sized and it all fits in a small space. The clothes are nicely edited with some designer items, though some have noticeable stains, tears, and missing elements like belts and buttons. Everything is sold as is, so be warned. There are a few gems here and some awesome deals when they have sales. The fitting rooms are quite spacious and well lighted so it makes it easy to try on the clothes. The ladies are friendly and it seems like they get a lot of regular customers since it seems like they all know each other. It's a nice environment that makes visiting this shop a fun experience. read more

Donated a bunch of gently used suits and jackets - which is why I was there in the first place. Decided to check out the store based on reviews. The selection is small, but pretty good. Definitely NOTHING like going to Goodwill. Found a Talbot's Irish linen dress ($20!!!!!!), a silk Maggie London ($20), and a silk Pamela Brown skirt ($25). Feeling as if I've just robbed the store. :) There's a seamstress just down the street (Style Alterations/Nancy Lee) if you need clothing altered. read more

Of the thrift/consignment stores in downtown Menlo Park (Goodwill Boutique, American Cancer Society store, Afterwards, Atherton Antiques), this is my favorite! It definitely has the lowest prices of all of them and a great, mixed selection. It's a small store with a decently sized collection. Everything is arranged by type, then color--kind of irritating since I just want to browse things in my size. Prices range all over the place, but there are plenty of $5 and $10 items, mixed in with $40+ designer(?) items. I picked up a pair of khaki J. Crew shorts that looked brand new for $6 and put back a gorgeous vintage lace dress that was $50 and a Forever 21 maxi dress that was $10. read more

I've shopped at The Shop on multiple occasions and am always pleasantly surprised at the selection of great quality items they have available. They have great sales periodically throughout the year - but be warned they are well attended and VERY busy! You can get great deals however so leave yourself some time and enjoy the adventure! My best finds seem to be jeans and pants and I always feel so good knowing that I'm supporting our community through The Junior League. Now that I have a daughter I find myself popping in often to look at the children's clothes and am always coming away with an item or 2. I love that as my tastes change (or my daughter grows) I can complete the cycle by donating our clothes to The Shop and receiving a great tax receipt. Selection is always changing so stop by often! read more

Nice, high end stuff. I haven't yet found much in smaller sizes but overall the quality is great. Prices though reflect that. A Goodwill this is not. Sometimes I'm dubious about their pricing strategy on things like artwork, things are hundreds of dollars and fairly unremarkable. But that's may be a taste thing. I love to browse here because they sometimes have antiques as well. Word of caution don't even think about asking or touching or thinking about buying anything on their store mannequins. They are not kidding with that sign of theirs. IT'S DISPLAY. You might as well ask them if their grandchildren are for sale, the look of horror! read more

The first time I stopped in The Shop, the traffic kept me from getting there until right before closing. Since I had driven all the way there, I wanted to browse quickly to see if it was worth a return trip. The woman working in the store was very polite while reminding me that they were about to close, and she warmly invited me back again to look around another time. I liked what I saw and appreciated the friendly attitude, so I returned today to get a closer look. The clothes were all pretty clean, mostly in good or nearly new condition, and had no strange odors. I like shopping here because I don't feel like I'm sifting through junk. The clothing brands ranged from Banana Republic, J.Crew, Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor (and Loft), Wilfred (Aritzia), J.Jill, Theory to higher end ones like St. John, Armani, and Escada. The prices were roughly $10-$250, some were a better bargain than others. They have a few fitting rooms to try things on. There was a small selection of handbags and jewelry in the glass counter, but I didn't get a close look. Pros: Carefully curated upscale second hand store with nice brands and reasonable prices. They take visa or mastercard. Cons: It is a small store. All sales are final. For donors: Just saw on their website that you can drop off your donations and they will mail you "an itemized list and donation receipt." Convenient. read more

This is my favorite of the Menlo Park consignment/resale/thrift stores. Their stuff tends to be nice and stylist, but without being incredibly expensive. I also love their book selection. I picked up a summer dress here once that has turned in to one of my favorite pieces of clothing. Recently - in the summer - I needed a raincoat. God help me. They happened to have a cute (almost new, buttons in the pockets!) J Crew trench in my size for a great price. Perfect! While their shoe selection isn't huge, they tend to be cute and in great shape. There tends to be a lot of turn over - when I have come back after thinking about an item, it tends to be gone. read more

I love this place. I'm been shopping there since I was in highschool! I'm 29 now. It is really hit and miss but you have to keep in mind that all the items are donated so they might not always have something in "stock" that suits your taste. Prices can really be hit or miss... some items they think are "designer" and price too high while other items fall under the radar. I've recently started school and I was able to get a Coach messenger bag from here for $200 that was NWT. The retail price ion the bag at the coach store was $598. Score!!! I"m a starving student and this was a combined birthday and xmas gift for me from the family!!! When I was sitting there trying to decide if I should invest the manager was so sweet and gave me the space to try the bag on and ponder over it! Now that's good cust. service, they are not pushy at all! The manager is really sweet and remembers me from the years even though I don't get in all that often anymore. This is a super clean store, no funky smells(seriously I can not walk into the good will down the street, the smell is so bad I had to leave and promptly made a deposit from my tummy in the bushes)!! A bit cramped but oh well... that just means there is lots of good bargains all around!!! Check it out!!! best time I find is to go mid week on an afternoon. read more

What a cute do it yourself thrift shop. I'd never known that this place had existed if it weren't for my coworker telling me about it. This place has good quality clothes for cheap prices (what I got: top $5, pant $6). I know that this is going to be a shocker, but it is cheaper than the nice Goodwill down the street! There are these sweet women running the shop, a nice change from the usual snotty teenagers at places like Plato's closet and crossroads. I'm a woman in my late 20's and found some really cute clothes here, worth walking into the shop and looking around. It is a small space but has it's treasures. read more

I didn't think of myselft as a Shop shopper but my opinion has been changed. I found myself in Menlo Park with a few extra minutes to look around so I wandered into the shop. I couldn't believe what I found, a replacement globe for my chandelier. The price was one dollar and far cheaper than ordering a replacement from the light store. All excited about my find, I looked around some more and found the cutest tin gingerbread house that opens on top. I paid an entire dollar for it as well. The tin makes a great holiday decoration and my son thought it was cool to boot. If you have a few minutes to look around, I recommend stopping in to see what the Shop has for sale. The ladies are very nice and you receive an itemized listing of the things you've donated, which is perfect for your tax validation. Someone else said that it is more like Nordstrom Rack than a Goodwill -- that's a good assessment. My mom is constantly pushing me to shop at the shop because I am a young professional and they have fantastic deals on designer clothes - 2 of my favorite things! The store is small but what can you expect? It is a non profit. Sometimes it takes some effort to find the good stuff but it is definitely there. The place is A-Ok. The ladies that work there are definitely very friendly no doubt about that. The clothes are nicely organized too. The clothes are more for an older and fancier audience though. The people that frequent this area must be wealthy because both the Goodwill and The Shop are priced that way. If I was on the street I would stop in but I would not go out of my way to visit. read more

I donate here on a regular basis as they email a receipt early in the year for taxes. Better than any other place I donate too. The store is small and the goods are curated. I recently found a gold tone cuff bracelet that is amazing for little $. I stop by often to shop for my niece all the time - most 0-2 year clothes looks brand new and how can you pass up Baby Gap for $3-$5? Definitely worth a looksie. I am not a thrift store shopper as I don't have the time to sort through racks and racks but The Shop is different. I almost always finds something I can't live without! read more
