Another view from the shoreline of Delaware River.

A great location to relax with your family and friends. Outdoor patio along the Delaware River shoreline with wonderful views. The drinks are a bit overpriced, but the atmosphere helps balance that out. I've tried the food truck at the Shipyard location, and while I haven't sampled the mac & cheese myself, several folks I spoke with swore it was excellent. That's definitely on my list for next time. The barkeeps are solid, friendly, attentive, and they keep things moving even when the place gets packed. Service overall is up to par. Just a heads-up: it gets busy on weekends, especially when a Philly sports event is airing on the TVs, so expect a lively crowd.

Went back for an early dinner and dog walk - Food was good, great crowd -& service top notch. Has a fun atmosphere and dogs are very much appreciated. Ambiance is good & crowd is very positive. Great spot right on the river!!

Food truck (Carolina blue) was excellent. Drinks are decently priced. Food inside is basic. View and vibe is what matters

I love the vibe... the views are beautiful, right off of the Delaware River. They have an open floor plan where you feel as close to the water as possible and have cornhole available to play. However, I rated a 4 and not a 5 for a few reason: 1. Music selection is selective... and by selective, I mean country only. 2. Most drinks are on tap. Including "mixed" cocktails such as mojitos, margaritas, etc. 3. The food selection is unfortunately, TRASH. A few apps that aren't seafood that I would eat... which are chicken tender, French fries and pretzel bites Otherwise, I'd recommend as a spot to chill with friends!

Was always told by friends that this place was worth the 50 min drive , so we gathered up some friends and decided to try it out. Pulling up it's tucked away in a not so desirable part of town but the property is well maintained and sticks out like a sore thumb. Entering the grounds you're met with large firepits and a nice view of the water, making our way into the indoor seating area it's all metal shipping containers, there's a bar and you order your food from an online site and your number comes up and you pick up your food. The service seemed fine, there's wasn't a whole lot of interaction with servicers besides picking up food and walking to the bar for drinks but it was fine no issues there. The food was good, we all basically ordered most of the menu and all kinda of picked from what we wanted, It is however pretty expensive. You can reserve fire pits I believe it was $200 for 4 hrs, my buddy handled that and I can't remember what he said. At the end of the day we had a great time, we played cornhole and watched the boats go by complete with a nice sunset. We will return however it is to far for us to become regulars.

From the outside, it doesn't look like much; in fact, it looks like a bit of a dive from outside. But when you walk in, you are transported. The design of the restaurant is so special - community tables, pillows, tapestries, waterfall features, tiles, and belly dancing. The food was a little inconsistent. We shared many dishes: Bastilla (baked layers of filo dough, eggs, chicken, almonds, sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar); hummus (chickpeas, tahini, crushed garlic, lemon juice, sprinkled with paprika and olive oil, served with pita bread); Spanakopita; salad trio (eggplant salad, cucumber and tomato salad, and carrot salad); lamb tagine (stew of lamb, onions, and roasted peppers topped with honey and served with rice); Moroccan chicken with harissa cumin sauce; mujaddara (cracked bulgur wheat cooked with lentils and caramelized onions); and mint tea. I wish they didn't serve bottled waters, and the food was mostly good but not the most consistent. Our mujaddara wasn't served with the yogurt sauce listed on the menu, and the lamb with the tagine was incredibly fatty, making some of it inedible. The mint tea was really really really sweet - like syrup! I also wish the bastilla had a little less powdered sugar (I like on the dish, but it was A LOT of powdered sugar), and it was quite dry. But the eggplant salad, carrot salad, hummus, and mujaddara (even without the yogurt sauce) were great. I would happily have eaten just those dishes. They were busy - it's a popular place - but service was also a challenge. It took us almost a half hour to get the check and pay. I had to ask for the bill twice and then it still took a while to get it, for it to get picked up, and for it to come back to us. It's pretty bad if I'm considering walking up to the bar to get the check and pay. I loved the ambiance and the character. I loved that you can't tell how amazing it's going to be inside when you see the outside of the building - it's a surprise for sure. Our experience was that the food was a bit inconsistent, but it certainly was a fun meal.

Dinner and a show, I'm down! The show was good, but the food was just fine. Everything leaned too sweet for my liking. Our group of 4 got the $30 each 7 course family style meal. Spicy (not even that spicy!! (2/5 spice level IMO)) chicken and the eggplant dish at the beginning were my favorite dishes.

It's been many things in its history, but it's been Jessop's Tavern since 1996. (The family who owns the restaurant named it after a cooper named Abraham Jessop, who lived and worked in the building in 1724.) The restaurant has a great menu of food (including dishes inspired by the cuisines important to New Castle's early history: smorgasbord, a Dutch-inspired pot roast, etc.) and an incredible list of beers (200 Belgian beers, 20+ Belgian beers on draft, and more). We shared the Jessop's Tavern Crab Dip (served in a sourdough bread bowl) for the table, and I had the New Sweden Meatloaf for my entree (meatloaf with a vodka cream sauce and lingonberry preserves). I also had a couple of colonial ales - Washington's Porter by Yards Brewing Co. (I liked it so much, I had two). The service was good, and the ambiance is great: full of colonial charm. I'm sure there are other great places to eat in New Castle, but eating at Jessop's Tavern is a special place to grab a meal if you're spending the day exploring New Castle and learning about its history.
