This was a concern with me, because our house was at the end of a street, and the roof was visible to anyone driving up that street. Mapco Exteriors showed me various samples and I decided to go with the Malarkey shingles. They are made from recycled materials and have properties that make them hailstone and algae resistant. They are architectural shingles and only cost a few hundred dollars more. I'm told our insurance company may reduce our premium for using these shingles, so I plan to follow up with them. The installation crew was the best. It was a very hot and humid day, and they showed up at 6:00A, and was completely done by 1:00P. Before starting, they laid down tarps completely around our house to catch falling debris, including nails. They removed the old shingles and underlayment, and placed them in a trailer and took them away. They also drug magnet bars all around the house to ensure any nails that may have missed the tarps were retrieved. In the end, the shingles looked great, and I got compliments from several neighbors. The installation crew was some of the hardest working and polite men I have seen. If you are in need of new shingles, I strongly recommend contacting Mapco Exteriors. They are honest, they do great work, and they will treat you right.
