Highly recommend checking out The Shellhouse since they've reopened. We had an amazing experience and the service was impeccable. We were party of 12 and they served us efficiently and with ease. We did arrive at 345 and they open at 4, and a line was already forming so I highly recommend getting there earlier. Food was amazing and fresh and honestly you can't get as much food on your plates anywhere in the Savannah areas for the cost as you can here. Highly recommend! read more

Updating my review from a few weeks ago. Still love the service and food! BUT, ironically, be careful where you sit and what you wear! I had a brand new pair of white capris that I put on at the hotel and walked across the street to eat. We didn't sit anywhere else but the bar stools in The Shell House. We were there for almost 2 hours. Loved everything until I got back to our hotel room and noticed my white Capris were now absolutely filthy on the butt end! Tried washing them in the hotel sink and it cleaned them a bit. Washed them thoroughly when we got home and they're still stained! I can wear them as long as I wear a top that covers! Restaurant needs to have a cleaning service come in and do a deep clean on those stools and keep it up at least a couple of times a year! ‍ read more

The seafood is excellent and you get very large servings. It is quite expensive, however, for the type of food and the type of restaurant.

Glad they reopened. We got our usual fried shrimp and crab legs. Got seated quickly Always great food here. read more

My shrimp and crab dinner was Delious j More than enough food to eat. I'd recommend this dinner to all of my friends mmm to this dinner. read more

This place was amazing, after almost an hour of trying to google where to eat that would fit the bill for my husbands sea food craving while being safe for my oldest and my celiacs I finally told my husband that I didn't care where we went as long as it was close to our hotel. They have a whole gluten free menu which my daughter and I ordered from. Everyone was extremely happy with our dinners, and while my husband said the peach cobblers wasn't his moms, it was incredible lol. I highly recommend this restaurant. Service was wonderful, it was clean, everyone seemed happy, and while I normally feel awkward when the manager pops by to check, this manager made it feel like he was checking on family. If I'm ever back in Savannah I will definitely be coming here read more

Nothing special to talk about. We ordered the Big Daddy, which was more than enough food for 2. Ordered potatoes and corn, which didn't have any seasoning, but then I noticed that there was a shaker of what looked like Old Bay. So must be a season to your liking restaurant. I just didn't care for the fried food. Everything had a slimy feel to me, but I do like my food cooked through. Ordered a side salad, and dressing was flavorful, but watered down. Also, there is over a 3% surcharge if you pay with anything other than cash or gift card. Pro: Our waiters were wonderful! Very attentive. I could tell that it is a popular place because the parking lot was everyday. read more

I rarely give one star. It was supposed to be a great local seafood place, as reported locally. No. It's not. The food is below average and small for what you pay. The "sausage " on the Sides menu what just a cheap, fat, hot dog. Not kielbasa sausage as stated by the waitress. The waitress was a bit attentive, but totally unhelpful when asking any question about the menu. You could tell she wanted to be somewhere else. The coleslaw as a "side" was delivered long before the main course. We finished it before the meal came. It was overly sweet and "mayonnaisey". The main plate was pretty empty. The Mahi was okay in flavor but, as stated before, the sausage was terrible. The only thing that gets better STARS is the ice tea and crackers. read more

Everything was delicious! Everything was delicious! Large portions... Took several boxes home. Service was impeccable!

New to the area. Awesome place to eat. The food was amazing. Service was good. Everyone friendly. Love the shrimp & hush puppies which I had never had before. Great job! read more

I was very excited about this place reopening & couldn't wait to try it. I was very disappointed yesterday. I ordered the Snow Country Boil, the price was outrageous at $43, then the shrimp were so salty I couldn't eat very many. The crab legs were ok. My daughter had coleslaw & it was super salty as well. I won't be returning & risking paying that much money for salty food & I love salt on my food but that was obsessive. Service was fine, food was not. read more

The restaurant is nice and comfortable and the service was good. The mahi was pretty small for the price but someone else got fried shrimp and they were very generous. Would I go back? Probably read more

We stopped by here with some friends while on a vacation trip. I think we all chose something different to eat and we were all pleased with our food. The service was great, especially for the amount of people in our party. It was a great little restaurant. read more

Waitress Alex was terrible. Slow and our food was so cold. She seemed to favor one table of young boys over mine and my families. 0/10 wouldn't recommend if all the waitresses are like that. read more

The place is nice. Laid back feel. The waitress was really nice and checked on us often. Started with the old Fashion. Don't get it. Worst old Fashion ever. Food took a long time to come out. Really long time. Food served on paper plates. The oysters was over cooked. The cheese grits was good. Both stakes were good. The snow crab boil was also a little over cooked, and salty. So wanted to go with 1 starts, but the stake was good and other than the wait for the food the waitress did a good job she checked on us often and let us know the status of our late food so because of her and the steak we will go with 2. Will not be back. Then it took forever to get the check. read more

My goodness! The food here is amazing! We first visited this place when my family from out of town visited Savannah and they were blown away! WARNING: At first glance of the menu prices, your eyes may pop out of your head. But, I promise you, it will be money well spent. The waitstaff is polite, the decor is rustic and a bit dated but, you're not coming for the ambiance... you're coming to eat, right?! RIGHT! The portions are HUGE! This is enough food for you to eat and have lunch for the next day. If you're looking for silverware, dishes, glasses and such, you won't find it here. But, if you don't mind eating off a paper plate, using plastic cutlery, plastic cups, and sliding your food into a convenient, ready-made hole in the table for your discarded shrimp tails, shells, and cracked crab legs... come on down! I recommend the Fried Shrimp, Fried Oysters and Fried Catfish. Clearly the best seafood in Savannah... HANDS DOWN! read more

We had a party of four and arrived shortly after they opened. Food was hot and delicious and very little wait. Can highly recommend the fried flounder, shrimp and cheese grits. Also liked the hushpuppies (they add corn)! Would not recommend the catfish, as it tasted more like Swai or Basa instead of actual catfish, but to each their own if that's what you prefer. Customer service was friendly and attentive. read more

Great seafood, nice casual atmosphere, and extremely friendly staff. We would definitely go again! Snow crabs and fried catfish were outstanding! My son loved his chicken tenders. Side dishes were good but seafood star of the show... as it should be! Tip: share the snow crabs/fried catfish combo... definitely enough for two! read more

The food here is overwhelming! The platters here are most popular. I have been here twice when visiting family and I always get the fried oysters and fried catfish platter with red potatoes and Cole slaw as my sides. The coleslaw is really good too. Very fresh and crunchy. The platter helpings are great for sharing or for me I can eat all by myself. The service is really great. Servers are attentive and polite and are great southern folk for Savannah. The shellhouse is welcoming, with their pebble flooring and their spacious dining rooms it doesnt feel stuffy inside, rather it feels open and welcoming. read more

I've always loved the ShellHouse and the new remodel looks amazing. However I was "shell" shocked at the prices on the menu. What was a restaurant I went to frequently is now one that will only be for a very special occasion. The portion size on the fried seafood was way too much. One plate would have definitely fed 2 people. I would have rather seen half of the food and half the price. The steamed seafood my friend got was so salty she could not eat it which has never happened in all the years we have been going. We mentioned it to the waitress and she just said yeah she hears that sometimes. Thankfully I had an abundance of food that I could share with her. read more

Very delicious and pretty large servings! Waitress was there often and very nice! There's a live gator out back in the lake that hangs out with turtles. He's not shy! Great experience! read more

We went on a Tuesday night. My husband birthday and met some friends to celebrate. The restaurant is clean and very well up keep. The table seated 4 was very crowded when the food showed up. It has a hole in the middle for trash or shell from shrimp or crab legs. The atmosphere was very nice. The tea was alright. The water taste like it was not filtered. It had an after taste. Started with crab stew as appetizer. 8 out of 10 We ordered fried shrimps and broil shrimps 9 of 10. Order grilled Mahi Mahi with red rice. Sides coleslaw and cheese grits. 7 out of 10. Grill Salmon with red rice Sides coleslaw hush puppies. 8 out of 10 Fried flounder with fried shrimp. The fish was larger than the plate and large portion of shrimp with hush puppies. Sides coleslaw with red rice. 9 out of 10. The fried food was very large portions. I order a side of sausage. It did not come with the meal. I reminded the waitress about the sausage. It could have left it in the kitchen. It was a couple of links sausage. The server was very patient with us. She did ensure the drinks did not get low. I do recommend this restaurant. The manager or the owner greeted us at the table which was very classy. read more

Food came out hot and was very good large plate Took so long for food to come out . Wait staff was very slow

Good food, very popular. Service is great. Can't eat there very often due to the expense.

Thursday, May 27 6pm - party of 3 We were looking for a restaurant close by that offered seafood and more. My mom said she ate here many years ago and liked it. This large restaurant is located on I95 at 204 and is nothing more than a tourist trap. The place needs a good cleaning and sprucing. The food is overpriced and definitely not worth it. I imagine all the positive reviews are from people who don't have other options for seafood where they live. $26 for grilled mahi, $36 for shrimp & catfish and $36 for a 16 oz ribeye. My son requested it medium but got medium-well to well done. When I told the waitress that the steak was over cooked, she said they couldn't grill a new one because the kitchen was too busy. Ridiculous $104 for 3 unseasoned, overcooked food, served on paper plates with cheap plastic forks. Save your money and venture into Savannah for real seafood dinner! read more

Everything about this restaurant is 5 stars, it's really fresh seafood so of course it's gonna be a little pricey, the amount of food you get is a lot plus it's hot fresh and the taste is amazing we were in the area for couple weeks & we most definitely went back highly recommend going if you love seafood, staff super friendly, ambience is wonderful & lots of fun read more

Only three hush puppies for $45? The fried oysters were good and the fried shrimp also. Expensive though.

Great place for seafood. Very fresh, generous portions, well seasoned, very tasty......all that combined with great service. read more

Great food!! Very friendly staff! Beautiful area. Love the unique decor. Will definitely be a place I visit again.

Well, it's expensive. AF. But, you are served a LOT of good, fresh seafood. Limited beer choices, spotty service at the bar. But definitely worth a visit if you're close by and hungry. read more

The service was good. However, the prices are inflated and have been for a while. This used to be affordable and a great place to eat. The food never disappointed. Not so much now. For example.... The snow crab and boiled shrimp is $56+. The shrimp aren't deveined. For the prices, they should be deveined and the food in general should be served on real plates and silver ware, not plastic. read more

Our tour guide recommended, and Yessss they were right!! We enjoyed to the fullest, the speedy service was all I needed after a long day of sight seeing. The food was well seasoned and tasty, Ive never eaten seafood this good before in a restaurant setting!! I always ask the locals were to eat, even if I have to drive out way from the touristy spots. The prices are reasonable to be seafood, you get what you pay for. And they came thru so I didn't mind paying. Very clean and the service was awesome, I will most def revisit when Im in Savannah. Try the gumbo and catfish, you wont regret! read more

Great service! Delicious seafood. This was our first time visiting this restaurant and I've gotta say you can't get much better! It's the first time we've been back since they reopened after the fire. Once upon a time they had the best crab chowder - NO MORE. It's potato soup with some shredded crab thrown on top. Too spicy so you couldn't even taste the crab! And the prices are - RIDICULOUS - 2 bowls of crab stew and tea - $42+ tip. Never again! read more

Huge portions. Ordered the petite low country boil and brought home enough for another meal. Ordered peach cobbler for dessert and it came with ice cream which I did not like. The cobbler was homemade then they put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top which had no flavor and did not taste right. If you order the peach cobbler I recommend not having ice cream with it. I took the ice cream off of it very quickly so it wouldn't ruin the taste of the wonderful made from scratch cobbler. I ended up tossing the ice cream away because it was horrible. I did let the server know that I loved the cobbler but the ice cream was not creamy and had no flavor. Hope they change the brand of ice cream or make it homemade. Wasn't a fan of the tarter sauce. I noticed that the bottle of tattle sauce was sitting out on all the tables and the tarter sauce was room temperature. I prefer my tarter sauce cold. Service was excellent otherwise I probably would have given 3 stars. read more

I don't know what they did to this place but they really ruined it, it use to be kinda expensive but worth it and like a nice treat to go a couple times a year. I went for my birthday dinner, a Snow Crab Legs dinner with 1 lb of crab, a few broiled shrimp and 2 crappy sides was $70 without a drink. I go out for nice meals but $70 to have bad service, plastic dinnerware then insult to injury be charged a credit card fee on top of a Ludacris Bill I truly felt taken advantage of. Won't go back, total rip-off now. read more
