This place was amazing, after almost an hour of trying to google where to eat that would fit the bill for my husbands sea food craving while being safe for my oldest and my celiacs I finally told my husband that I didn't care where we went as long as it was close to our hotel. They have a whole gluten free menu which my daughter and I ordered from. Everyone was extremely happy with our dinners, and while my husband said the peach cobblers wasn't his moms, it was incredible lol. I highly recommend this restaurant. Service was wonderful, it was clean, everyone seemed happy, and while I normally feel awkward when the manager pops by to check, this manager made it feel like he was checking on family. Updating my review from a few weeks ago. Still love the service and food! BUT, ironically, be careful where you sit and what you wear! I had a brand new pair of white capris that I put on at the hotel and walked across the street to eat. We didn't sit anywhere else but the bar stools in The Shell House. We were there for almost 2 hours. Loved everything until I got back to our hotel room and noticed my white Capris were now absolutely filthy on the butt end! Tried washing them in the hotel sink and it cleaned them a bit. Washed them thoroughly when we got home and they're still stained! I can wear them as long as I wear a top that covers! Restaurant needs to have a cleaning service come in and do a deep clean on those stools and keep it up at least a couple of times a year! ‍ read more

I rarely give one star. It was supposed to be a great local seafood place, as reported locally. No. It's not. The food is below average and small for what you pay. The "sausage " on the Sides menu what just a cheap, fat, hot dog. Not kielbasa sausage as stated by the waitress. The waitress was a bit attentive, but totally unhelpful when asking any question about the menu. You could tell she wanted to be somewhere else. The coleslaw as a "side" was delivered long before the main course. We finished it before the meal came. It was overly sweet and "mayonnaisey". The main plate was pretty empty. I ordered the Snow Country Boil, the price was outrageous at $43, then the shrimp were so salty I couldn't eat very many. The crab legs were ok. My daughter had coleslaw & it was super salty as well. The food here is overwhelming! The platters here are most popular. I have been here twice when visiting family and I always get the fried oysters and fried catfish platter with red potatoes and Cole slaw as my sides. The coleslaw is really good too. Very fresh and crunchy. The platter helpings are great for sharing or for me I can eat all by myself. The service is really great. Servers are attentive and polite and are great southern folk for Savannah. The shellhouse is welcoming, with their pebble flooring and their spacious dining rooms it doesnt feel stuffy inside, rather it feels open and welcoming. read more

WARNING: At first glance of the menu prices, your eyes may pop out of your head. But, I promise you, it will be money well spent. I've always loved the ShellHouse and the new remodel looks amazing. However I was "shell" shocked at the prices on the menu. What was a restaurant I went to frequently is now one that will only be for a very special occasion. The portion size on the fried seafood was way too much. One plate would have definitely fed 2 people. I would have rather seen half of the food and half the price. The steamed seafood my friend got was so salty she could not eat it which has never happened in all the years we have been going. Started with crab stew as appetizer. 8 out of 10 We ordered fried shrimps and broil shrimps 9 of 10. Order grilled Mahi Mahi with red rice. Sides coleslaw and cheese grits. 7 out of 10. Grill Salmon with red rice Sides coleslaw hush puppies. 8 out of 10 Fried flounder with fried shrimp. The fish was larger than the plate and large portion of shrimp with hush puppies. Sides coleslaw with red rice. 9 out of 10. The fried food was very large portions. I order a side of sausage. It did not come with the meal. I reminded the waitress about the sausage. It could have left it in the kitchen. It was a couple of links sausage. The server was very patient with us. She did ensure the drinks did not get low. I do recommend this restaurant. Thursday, May 27 6pm - party of 3 We were looking for a restaurant close by that offered seafood and more. My mom said she ate here many years ago and liked it. This large restaurant is located on I95 at 204 and is nothing more than a tourist trap. The place needs a good cleaning and sprucing. The food is overpriced and definitely not worth it. I imagine all the positive reviews are from people who don't have other options for seafood where they live. $26 for grilled mahi, $36 for shrimp & catfish and $36 for a 16 oz ribeye. My son requested it medium but got medium-well to well done. When I told the waitress that the steak was over cooked, she said they couldn't grill a new one because the kitchen was too busy. Ridiculous $104 for 3 unseasoned, overcooked food, served on paper plates with cheap plastic forks. Save your money and venture into Savannah for real seafood dinner! read more

The food was well seasoned and tasty, Ive never eaten seafood this good before in a restaurant setting!! I always ask the locals were to eat, even if I have to drive out way from the touristy spots. Huge portions. Ordered the petite low country boil and brought home enough for another meal. Ordered peach cobbler for dessert and it came with ice cream which I did not like. The cobbler was homemade then they put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top which had no flavor and did not taste right. If you order the peach cobbler I recommend not having ice cream with it. I took the ice cream off of it very quickly so it wouldn't ruin the taste of the wonderful made from scratch cobbler. I ended up tossing the ice cream away because it was horrible. I did let the server know that I loved the cobbler but the ice cream was not creamy and had no flavor. Hope they change the brand of ice cream or make it homemade. Wasn't a fan of the tarter sauce. I noticed that the bottle of tattle sauce was sitting out on all the tables and the tarter sauce was room temperature. I prefer my tarter sauce cold. There was a big trash hole in the middle of the table to use, guess for shells, nasty and unsanitary. The food came out on paper plates with plastic ware, really at these prices.
