Shamrock Pub is a family friendly establishment, mainly known for its chargrilled burgers. So much so, the burgers are often hailed as the best in Macomb County. Its ambiance is more updated than the average pub, and outdoor seating is available during the warmer months. The menu here is concise. However, a wide array of options isn't necessary, as the majority of Shamrock's clientele come here for the burgers. For instance, I recently dined in, and noticed just one sandwich come out of kitchen that wasn't a burger. I also, unfortunately, noticed that all the buns get microwaved prior to serving. This wouldn't have bothered me, but the buns were still in the plastic bag they came in. As for the burger, it's definitely good, but frankly, it's overrated. It's enjoyable, but there's plenty of bars out there serving comparable burgers. The portion size of the French fries is generous. Similar to the burger though, the fries are worth getting, but are nothing to write home about. If you prefer a simple and affordable burger, you'll absolutely love Shamrock. On the flip side, the burger is not in the same league as Bronx Bar, Grey Ghost, Redcoat Tavern, etc. As a whole, what makes Shamrock such a desirable spot is how fairly priced the menu is. read more

Revisiting this to coincide with my burger rankings. Great little place with a very limited menu. What they do they do great in most cases. Started the meal with an order of cheese sticks. These were great, cooked to a nice crisp without overcooking the cheese. Ordered my burger medium rare and they typically nail the cook here. Today it was slightly over cooked at a medium. It was still juicy and very flavorful. Toppings are simple mayo, lettuce, pickle, onion, and tomato. I add ketchup and mustard. Fries - seasoned full order. It was the tale of two different baskets. One basket had great looking fries the other not so much. I got the other basket. For seasoned fries the season and butter was lacking on this trip. Service is great with the exception of cashing out. It always seems to take forever to cash out. I have mixed feelings about the Shamrock. I had been in the place a couple of times more than 10 years ago and enjoyed it. It's a historic, neighborhood place with some old-time charm intact, all of which I love. And I did remember that their burgers (which, I believe, they are known for) were tasty. So I recently had the opportunity to revisit the place with my wife and a friend (she had recently lost her mother and the Shamrock is her favorite place, so we were taking her out). I eagerly anticipated my return and the chance to try the current version of their burger. We sat outside on the patio, which is really pleasant. First of all, my wife is a vegetarian (pescatarian, actually) so there was not much for her on the menu. But she knew it would be that way and was OK with that. She ended up asking for the mozzarella sticks and fries. I - as well as our friend - ordered the burger. I asked for grilled onions on it and our server, Eric, assured me that was no problem. We got our drinks, and waited for our food. Just before our food was delivered, another server (a woman; I didn't catch her name) told me that grilled onions might not be possible on my burger because there were too many orders for the fryer and no room for the onions. She said that they prepare grilled onions by putting them in the deep fryer ("That's the way we do it," she said flatly.) She returned a few minutes later and informed me in a very matter-of-fact manner that grilled onions wouldn't be an option for me. (Now, anyone who knows anything about the history of the hallowed hamburger in the USA knows that grilled onions were the original way that onions were presented on hamburgers, in the early 20th century. But, I digress.) There was no apology, no attempt to ease my disappointment. No words of understanding or consolation. Nothing. Just attitude. It was going to be her way or the highway. OK. I got my burger and the slab of meat itself was good (not incredible or great, but good, 7.5 out of 10). I made do with raw onions (and lettuce) on it. The seasoned fries were good, too. But I feel that either (or both) of the servers should have apologized for the inconvenience, which they did not do. And look, the kitchen simply should have accommodated me by cooking the onions in oil on the grill (in a pan, if necessary). That's what a customer-responsive place does. You try to accommodate the customer. Find a solution. All right, it was just a burger. It's not the end of the world. And I have to say that our main server, Eric, was friendly, professional, and attentive. I do think he should have acknowledged my inconvenience, though. Will I go back to the Shamrock soon? Probably not. I have a bitter taste in my mouth about the experience, and it's not from onions. read more

My favorite for one of the best bar burgers around. Burgers are cooked to order and always great. Draft beer selection is good and covers all the flavor taste buds well. The fries are fresh and hot and you cannot beat the service. Just a wonderful place to relax, eat and not go broke at the same time. read more

I went to this place for the first time about a month ago. It was so good I went back about 2 weeks later but the food was different. The first time the burgers were cooked temperature as ordered and the fries were fresh and I couldn't believe how big a basket was, 3-4 people could really share it. The second time I went, the burger and bun was dry and the fries came out in 2 seconds limp like they had been sitting around. The beers are cheap, service is quick, ambiance fine, this is a place I eat and leave quickly rather than sit and relax at for a couple drinks. read more

The food here is amazing like seriously good. The burgers send chicken wings are a favorite. The basket of fries are enough to share for 2-3 people. The accessibility is not great here but they did get a portable ramp to get inside. Just call and they can set it up for you. If accessibility isn't an issue for you then you'll love this place. We had been to this bar/restaurant pre-Covid on a number of occasions because they had great burgers and a warm atmosphere. Today, it's a bit cold and rushed. We were told to sit anywhere. Don't sit at the tables between the wall tables and bar - the server working the tables on the wall kicked my chair a couple of times. It was inadvertent but annoying. I was excited to return to a place we had recommended to others in the past. We quickly discovered that the food has gone WAY downhill. We each ordered cheeseburgers with a basket of fries to split. I asked for some ranch dressing on the side for the fries. I asked for my burger well done. It was burnt. The fries had been sitting for a while because they were wrinkled down the sides. At touch, our hunch was correct, they were luke warm at best. The ranch wasn't "real" ranch - it was like that non fat version that is really gross. Adding insult to injury, they charged us 75 cents for the ranch. I'd have been fine with that if there had been some head's up when I ordered it. I don't know what happened to this place in the past few years but we will not return. We were doubly disappointed because we had enjoyed it so much in the past. read more

Shamrock has really good burgers. Their seasoned fries are also pretty good although I do like mine a bit crispier than when I got there. The service was excellent. We had three or four different people stop the table too fill drinks or deliver food or check on if there was anything that was needed. I was really impressed by the teamwork. Expect a little bit of a wait if you're around meal time because there's a line. Cute on the inside too. Kind of like a old-time bar/diner. read more

Pretty good spot if your looking for a burger. I've seen a lot of positive reviews on this place so we finally gave it a try. Went at noon on a Saturday and the place was absolutely backed, clearly they have a good following. Overall, it was pretty good experience, I wouldn't say it's craveable but would definitely go back. Between my wife and I we had 2 burgers, a bowl of chili and a basket of seasoned fries. Our bill was less than $30 so, that was a great value. The burgers were great. Chargrilled and served in a classic style. Don't come here looking for a variety of crazy toppings. Just nice fresh cut lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and peppers. The burger had nice flavor and I respect that they didn't try to get too cute with them. I'm seeing too many places go overboard with toppings and presentation in an effort to distract from a lousy beef patty. My only complaint was that the buns were not toasted. Slap a little butter on those bad boys and give them a minute on the grill. The seasoned fries were terrific. Huge portion size, the basket easily could have served 3 people. The chili was the only disappointment, i found it to be very sweet with too much of a tomato sauce taste to it. Maybe this is more of a style preference issue for me. I prefer a spicier chili and this didn't fit the bill. I wouldn't order it again. I mentioned earlier that the place was packed, as such, the tables are very close together. We had a high two top table and felt like we were dining with the group next to us. I personally don't like being in that situation. So I must say, this is not the place I thought it was that I had been to years ago. It appears that place is no longer there. According to Shamrocks Yelp site, they look like they had an amazing burger, and in true yelp style. The burger was actually better than the picture looked. The shredded lettuce the flavoring the meat they use Has to be some kind of filet involved. We agree, my son, and I that it was the best burger in Michigan to date. Service was prompt, & very nice servers they all help one another which is nice so they're constantly scanning the room to see if anybody needs anything. Now when it comes to the ambience, I'm sorry they got to change the lights. They're horrible and who paints the ceiling white it kills it. It's like a interrogation room. We almost walked out because of that but I'm glad I stayed because the food was fantastic and I'd still go back, but those lights are horrible. read more

Went there because I was told the burgers are good. When we walked in there's two signs that say please wait to be seated....so we did. Were ignored by several workers and finally after 7-8 minutes a girl says you can sit down. (There was at least 5 employees just chilling and talking at the bar) Ok no biggie, so we find a spot outside and sit down. Table was dirty but also no biggie, asked the waitress if she could wipe it down. She seemed annoyed and came back with a towel and wiped one swipe which didn't do anything but spread it around. We just got up and left and went to another restaurant. I'm not looking to wined and dined like I'm royally, but at least don't act like we're an inconvenience. The Shamrock has become a new favorite, whether we're going to a Unicorns game or just in the area (or cerebrating St Patrick's Day). They have awesome burgers, and my kids love sharing one while we sit at the bar! It's always boisterous inside, and service is almost always excellent. If they get busy, it might slow down a bit, but that's to be expected. The seasoned fries are also really tasty, and the pop rocks (jalapeno poppers) had a real kick. It was a very busy time as many were grabbing a bite to eat before attending the All Star Game at Jimmy John's Field which included fireworks. What an amazing burger! I've been waiting to try this burger and today was the day. I couldn't resist the Shamrock Burger any longer. I've been on the hunt for one of the best burgers in Michigan and Shamrock is a solid contender. Great little spot in downtown Utica. I decided on the cheeseburger with a side of seasoned fries to split. Of course, I asked for extra pickles and a side of onion. What a fantastic flavor. My plan was to take half home for later, but bite after bite...poof, she gone! I couldn't stop eating; that says a lot for me because I always have left overs. The burger is simple in structure bun, beef patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo and cheese. It must be the seasoned grill and the TLC put into each burger that gives it the WOW factor. The staff are awesome and they have a nice selection of beers on draft, as well as a full bar. The patio is also open now for outside fun.
