The saga started November '24 when the 25% Black Friday discount offered some pricing relief. We ordered 9 shades, 4 roman and 5 solar shades. They were delivered early February. The Roman shades were a disaster - see the pictures rolled up. The refrain was "they will eventually develop memory and not look like that rolled up." No such thing. They did not look that great rolled down either as the wrinkles remained. And to put salt on the wound, one of the four roman shades malfunctioned within a few weeks. The "Customer Experience Manager" wrote one email saying they will replace them. And it took many emails to get one back. I am reluctant to give them credit for agreeing to replace them but given how bad they looked, cannot imagine any customer being satisfied. So we ended up with regular vinyl shades which are not ideal in a set of south facing windows as they get very hot and also have no insulating properties. And, roller shades cost about 20-25% less than roman shades, but they actually wanted to charge us extra for the downgrade - and did I mention we had a 25% discount which evaporated? And the 5 solar roller shades in the bathroom - they are the highest grade of solar shade they offer and all I can say they do a worse job in keeping the heat out than the 20 year old natural fiber shades we discarded. The moral of the story - the Shade Store is living off a legacy reputation that it can no longer support. Maybe it is because they were sold to a PE firm? The Shade Store is not worth the price premium. read more

Hess made it a wonderful experience and we're very happy with the results. We did have a bit of a miscommunication, and the quote got the incorrect fabric on 1 of the 2 shades we had them make; we unfortunately didn't notice that until both shades were installed. When I re-sent the email to Hess, where I originally indicated the 1 fabric we wanted for our entire job, he very quickly made amends: they made the shade in the correct fabric, scheduled the new installation, and didn't charge us a penny more, even though the fabric we wanted was more than the fabric he had quoted. We recently purchased a home with good bones that needed some long-overdue upgrades. After gutting the flooring and repainting the entire interior, we turned our attention to the window treatments. We looked at 3 different options and selected the Shade Store. While one of the 2 more expensive options, the customer experience of selecting the right shades and drapes, professional measurement to ensure absolute fit, shipping, installation, and drape steaming to ensure great appearance have been top tier. Starting with Hess, the Thousand Oaks in-store consultant, we reviewed materials, rods, motorized shades and blackout backing. Hess worked with us to fit our desired options into our investment budget. Hess also came to our house to personally measure all the windows (11 - 3 floor to near-ceiling drapes plus 8 Roman blinds with 2 of them motorized). He followed up on all questions and ensured we got the best possible price with available discounts. The orders were placed and were easy to track in the Shade Store system. The various boxes arrived in multiple shipments and were stored, awaiting installation day. On installation day, 2 installers (Marco and Bernardo) were on time, professional, efficient, and very careful with the new window treatments and our home. A 3rd colleague (Wally) joined them to do the finishing touches (steaming the drapes, ensuring all coverings looked great). It took about 3.5 hours for all of this work. The installation team was great. While the investment was not small, our perspective is that these will be with the house for the next 10+ years, give us a great look inside, provide the blackout experience in all bedrooms for us and our guests, and be a selling point if/when we sell the house. Very happy with my new motorized woven wood shade! The process was easy from scheduling for measuring to install. Communication and customer service were excellent. The store is clean, well organized and attractive. I knew the look I wanted to achieve, and Hess was helpful in helping me choose fabric samples to take home. After a lot of research and a long list of must haves my partner and I ended up at The Shade Store in the Promenade at Westlake Village and met with Hess Rouhafza. The store is a cool and calm place with a view of beautiful stylish shade and drapery choices of quality materials at different price points. Hess heard we wanted our wooden French doors and venting sidelines to be drill free. We wanted window treatments that would allow us easy access to any of the four doors opening to the outdoors. We wanted privacy that would preserve the natural light from the windows. We wanted clean, minimal maintenance, material and a design that was fresh, contemporary and would tie the room together. Just the most disappointing experience. We decided on our move to a new place to up our shades rather than use blinds.com. Was this a mistake for us. So much back and forth with the sales person, didn't provide the design help we needed, had to come back multiple times to repair the installed shades, measured wrong for our kitchen shade so that had to be remade which took another month. As another reviewer noted the Roman shades were flimsy and not well made. Finally asked them to stop remaking the shades as one department does not know what the other is doing and realize the quality is not there. On the first entrance in the store, glossy and their marketing materials are nice with some unique designer patterns but would not recommend as the finished product is just so disappointing. read more

Most of what they delivered was wrong, not what we ordered and or not how they described. It seems like a company that wants to grab your money and not deliver what they promise. Terrible shades. They are made with the cheapest materials, and they are stitched unevenly and poorly. I paid more than 4K (with a discount) for simple Roman shades for my children's rooms. The shades arrived and are stitched unevenly so the pleats do not line up properly one on top of the other. Some are longer than others, some shorter. One was so outright defective, the installer immediately stated it needed to be replaced. The cord system they use is connected via a magnetic piece that falls apart easily, so the cords tangle and it is impossible to open or close the shades!! I have spent hours at this point untangling the cords every time we use the shades. I went through my home trying to understand why these shades looked so much cheaper than others we have. Many Roman shades have bars or poles through them to maintain their shape and add weight to the shade. These have nothing. They are just straight fabric with stitching, so according to the shade store you need at least two weeks for the fabric to acclimate itself to the stitched pleats. I'm seeing absolutely no improvement in this regard. Very very dissatisfied read more

Huge disappointment. beautiful store and presentation. I purchased 5 motorized shades for over $5k. They came with inferior motors that were different from what i ordered, the fabrics were creased and would not correct by hanging out for days, and the shades were installed wrong - so far from the windows, they looked cheap and let in the light they were supposed to block. Shade store refused to fairly compensate me. I had to find another provider and paid over $2k more fixing the mess. read more
