My first shade broke after a year. It took around 6 months for The Shade Store to come and try and fix it. When the repair guy arrived he said it needed a rebuild. Then I tried to get The Shade Store to do the rebuild and they continually delayed until I gave up. 9 months of a shade that wouldn't go up later, I gave up. My second shade broke after 1.5 years. I am on month 3 and they are giving me the same runaround. If you want low quality shades that break, but you want to pay triple for a warranty that isn't usable, then The Shade Store is for you! read more

After using some of the cheaper online "made to order" blinds shops, I decided to try the Shade Store for some bedroom blackout cellular shades, given the positive reviews here. While they were fairly expensive ($850 for two normal-sized windows), the customer service during the ordering process was fantastic. So far so good. The first thing I noticed when receiving the shades, prior to installing, was that the mechanism type and quality seemed to be the exact same as some of the budget online shops that are half the price. The shades are held up by single strands of cheap-looking string and the mechanism parts are made of flimsy plastic. But I installed them as directed, and they looked fantastic in my space. One of two shades broke after 6 months of normal use. I emailed the Shade Store, and they promptly sent a replacement and directed me to dispose of the broken shade (again, fantastic customer service). Now, 6 months later, the other shade broke. I've contacted the Shade Store reps, and again, they've offered a replacement. At this point I'm ready to be done with these, as I don't feel like it's a sustainable practice to replace them every 6 months, but the Shade Store is refusing to offer a refund. They did offer store credit, but why would I want to get a different cheap product? Given the lack of refund option, I guess I'll just keep replacing them every time they break (which feels like an eventuality at this point, given the flimsy construction). So: based on my experience, the Shade Store is masking an cheap product with sleek websites, fancy storefronts, and good customer service. I've learned my lesson, and in the future I'll either find a superior product elsewhere, or at least go to one of the other cheap online shops if I want a product of this caliber. read more

Scheduling the complimentary measurement and then the installation were easy, with plenty of time slots to choose from. My shade was delivered to me in a timely fashion. The installer was on time and professional. This place is a gem! I ordered blinds and shades for French doors in my apartment from Ally Hatley, who designed and oversaw the project from start to finish. She was an enthusiastic, sure-footed, and patient guide. Frank did the measurements and installed them, and he was great as well--accurate, fast, skilled and friendly. I could not be more pleased with the result, both in terms of quality and appearance. It was not cheap, but it was money well spent considering how easy they made it and how nice it looks. This is the worst experience possible. The shades are incredibly expensive and poor quality. They arrived months and months late and the fact that they were going to be late was not communicated until after they were late. 9 months later we still do not have the proper shades installed because the first time, they delivered shades that were cut to the wrong size, and then the second time, they shipped only one side of the shades. Please go anywhere else for your shades, do not waste your money here unless you enjoy paying way too much for poor quality products. The sales people were very nice and this isn't really their fault, but the actual fulfillment of the purchase and the product is crap. read more

While they were here they gave me pros and cons in terms of where the drapes could be hung based on the configuration of where beams were etc. They shipped all the materials to me and then came to install them all. This is a follow-up review. Last November, we ordered three top-down/bottom-up shades. The top-down function on two of them didn't work. We sent them back to get repaired twice. After the second repair, the Shade Store kindly refunded our money for the two. This summer, the third shade broke and the two that had been repaired also stopped functioning properly (the top down function doesn't hold). In September, we sent all three back to the factory to get repaired again. A (very nice) installer came, they worked, and then two days later they didn't. Customer service have not responded to any of my e-mails asking for a refund of the third shade. We paid for a top-down function and have not gotten what we paid for. Show room people may be nice, but quality of product and customer care after they have your money is terrible! Buyer beware. read more

We had a positive experience at every step with the shade store in Park Slope. We had to replace two large cellular shades that had broken, and knew just what we wanted, after doing a little initial research on their site to have an idea of their offering. We emailed ahead for an appt through their site, which I highly recommend even if you are just starting to look. We met with Ally, who helped us understand all the details and options quickly and provided samples we could take right away that day. Her communication and follow up was great throughout the process. The measure and installation appts were on time and easy to track arrival. And the shade store staff for the appts were very respectful of our home and safety, super pleasant and efficient. We had zero experience with this store previously, nor their product, and after our personal experience would recommend. I think their product may be a bit more expensive than some similar options online, for example, at least for what we did. But the service and ease of the entire experience, as well as working with a local business in the neighborhood was well worth it for us. read more
