Great place to get good I love the taste. Hot dogs could taste a little better. But doesn't bother me.

If you want a dining experience that is the complete opposite of tourism-centric Myrtle Beach,…read moreLuvan's is definitely your stop. The place is truly an 800-square-foot, one-room cabin, and the proprietor, Richard, is a one-man show. He's your host, waiter, busboy, and cook. And yes, Richard is getting older and moves at a slower pace--but what he does is absolutely worth the wait and definitely worth the price. Seriously, this is the place, but you have to understand what you're getting into. It's rustic, intimate, and operates at a slow Southern pace. If you're in a hurry, this probably isn't for you. If you're looking for something unique, it's perfect. Our party of six had catfish and shrimp, and both were excellent and served in generous portions. The fried green tomatoes and fried okra literally came from Richard's garden earlier that day. Everything was fresh, homemade, and delicious. The total bill for six dinners, six sodas, fried okra, fried green tomatoes, hush puppies, and three desserts came to $140 before tip. Try finding that at a Myrtle Beach tourist restaurant. As we were leaving, Richard told us not to tell too many people about his place. I think he was only partially joking. Luvan's is by reservation only. If you don't have a reservation, don't even bother. Richard only serves a few small groups each evening, which is probably part of what makes the experience so special. And yes, as others have noted, there's no alcohol for sale--but you can bring your own beer to enjoy with dinner. Where else does that happen? A big YES to Luvan's all around. Just don't tell too many people about it!

Maybe not the best baby shrimp or slaw today,as they both had an old/odd flavor. Got here when they…read moreopened.....They also changed the hush puppies to quarter size medallions, and tea tasted like sugar cookies. Yuk. Only thing that was good was the catfish and the service. I won't be back anytime soon. It was much better the last couple of times. As like every where else, the prices continue to rise.

Yelp Fam! I'm back…read morewith another review, and this time I'm in Lake City, South Carolina. Now, there's a Shrimper in my part of SC, but the quality hasn't been consistent over the last several years. We heard that the Shrimper in Lake City was on a whole different level, so my family and I had to check it out when we were in the area. First off, when we pulled up, the parking lot was packed--no surprise since it was a Saturday. A good number of people were leaving as we walked in, so our wait time wasn't too bad. We decided to place a to go order and after about 15 minutes in line (seems like everyone else had the same idea), we were ready to order. The decor was pretty similar to the Shrimper we're used to--paneled walls, simple decor, same menu aesthetics. The cashiers were efficient, fast, and friendly considering the number of orders they were juggling. We ordered several items, including (2) flounder and shrimp plate, a large shrimp dinner, a shrimp and chicken dinner, and extra hushpuppies. The sides on the platters included rice and gravy, fries, mashed potatoes, and coleslaw. Overall, the food was good. One thing I particularly loved was that the shrimp were CLEAN! I can't stand gritty shrimp (you know, when they haven't been deveined properly). Thankfully, that wasn't the case here. The rest of my family enjoyed their food too. While we may not drive a great distance just to go again, if we're in the area, this place will definitely be on our list. If you're around, I recommend you add this spot for some good fried seafood to your list.
