Really great comedy club. We saw pandemonium and it was absolutely hilarious. Also the cast was super talented. Such a fun atmosphere. Also service was slow in the beginning but got better throughout the night and they didn't disturb the show too much.

We went to see "Pandemonium, Please Hold" at The Second City on June 10th. This was my husband's first time at an improv revue like this, and both our first times at Second City. It was a blast! It's first come, first seated essentially. If you buy a premium ticket, you're seated closer and center to the stage, but it's still first come, first seated. We ordered food and drinks there, which was our dinner for the night. Here's what we ordered: -- Hummus Platter (under Table Snacks) -- Straight-Cut French Fries (under Table Snacks) -- Chicago Hot Dog (under Handhelds) -- Diet Pepsi for me and a San Pellegrino for him The food was really good and better than we expected at a comedy club. Our server was cool also. The house staff works hard at The Second City. If you go, don't forget to tip!

This was my first visit to The Second City and I can't wait to go back! WHAT IS IT: This Chi town staple is a creative and fun theater that offers a rotation of improv and sketch comedy shows. The roster of well known Second City alumni includes greats like Tina Fey, Chris Farley, Amy Poehler, Chris Farley, Bill Murray and more. We saw Improv Supernova and what's great about this show is that no two performances are ever the same. WHERE IS IT: The Chicago location is in the historic Old Town neighborhood which has cute shops, cafes, and restaurants in the surrounding blocks. They also have locations in Toronto and NYC. PARKING and ACCESSIBILITY: There is a garage attached to Piper's Alley. They do not validate. There is also metered street parking which can be limited depending on the day and time. The building has elevators and escalators and the theater has wheelchair accessible seating. FOOD, DRINK, and MERCH: They offer fun cocktails, mocktails, wine, food items, and a selection of candy and snacks. You can also pick up cute merch such as mugs, glasses, shirts, sweaters, and hats.

First time at an improv show, Second City was a recommendation from a friend. The place is really big & well decorated. We got reasonably priced tickets and headed up to the 3rd floor. The space was small and intimate but it was great being so close to the stage. Very cute little spot and fun activity with friends or a date.

Just taking the shot with the sign.

We saw Pandemonium, Please Hold on the main stage. It was a riot. The last time I was here was the early nineties when both Tina Fey and Rachel Dratsh were performing. It was just as good the second time around. The food at Second City was actually good for a comedy club. The fries were perfect. The drinks were solid pours. They have fast service down to an Art.

I've been here a few times over the years. It's such a cool place that has had so many wonderful comedians grace the stages. We were here December 30 for holidazed & amused. It was a fun, holiday sketch show. Over 2 hours of improv & staged comedy. So many hilarious sketches. The seats all had a good view of the stage. Although our chairs were an odd height as my feet didn't touch the ground & no where for feet on the bottom of the chair. Not very comfortable. It's always crowded at comedy shows, so it wasn't bad as I remembered the last time I was here. Highly recommend & can't wait to see another show again.

I came for the "this too shall slap" 10 pm show. The cast was funny! It consists of short acts that last 5-10 minutes. The cast looked like the were having fun too! Maybe I was a little tired because it was harder to pay attention near the end.

We had way too much fun at their improv show. They mixed current events with classic bits, and the whole place was literally laughing out loud. The in-theatre menu is on point too--think delicious smash burgers, table snacks, and perfectly mixed drinks like the "Call Back" and "Obvious Song." Perfect for a date night, solo night, or girls' night-all for under $20!

If you are in Chicago this is something you need to plan on seeing! They have multiple shows every single day. We went to "The Best of Second City" and it was amazing we were cracking up the whole time. The performers were incredible and hilarious. The jokes were witty and the improv was really creative. They serve drinks and a small food menu - loved that they offered mocktails, the food was more like snacky, I would recommend eating before. The theater was great but it did get chilly so definitely bring a sweater! Also if you do not want to get called on try to avoid front or middle seats!

How can you go wrong when in Chicago? Always a great time! We got to the show about :30 before show time. We were seated on the rail and got settled in. Our server came by and got our food/drink order. We were served promptly-amazing feat given the crowd. We took our servers suggestion and nibbled on the Elote Dip. Solid suggestion! The comedy club is a must when you are in town!

So much fun and knowing many big actors started out at The Second City like Dan Akroyd and Chevy Chase. This is where the big ppl started over 50 years ago! Greatness and the spirit of amazement rests here. We saw the Theory of Chaos today. It was fun. I would say Second City actors are my favorite in Chicago. Smart and well trained.

We had the best time! We attended the "this too shall slap" and the cast was absolutely hilarious! We laughed the whole time. We ate before hand, but had a waiter making sure we were refreshed on drinks the whole time.... The inside is dark and it's similar to an SNL performance. We had the best time and it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

Always love a second city dinner & show! The Reality Detox was a belly laugher, and so fun getting drinks to the seat.

Ask the Community - The Second City

Is there parking nearby? My husband is handicapped and can't walk too far.

There is a parking garage across the street-we booked on SpotHero!

What is the difference between front row, premium rail, and general admission.? Is the higher price worth it?

Question is more about you personally. Would it bother you if they picked you to go on stage? Or if they made you into part of a improve discussion? If it would bother you, you wouldn't want to be close/front row IMO. The Premium rail used to be…

You have a number of shows and tickets. Which is for the main club / feature show?

The mainstage show is called "Algorithm Nation or The Status Quo." That's the main club/feature show. There's also the "Second City e.t.c 43rd Revue" which is the other main show. Both are great! I recommend both.

Do you have to be over 21 to see a show here?

Hey! Thanks for reaching out! Our only age restriction is that we don't admit anyone under the age of 10. Anyone 11-17 just needs an adult present with them.

Is it worth it to buy the "Rail" (premium) seats?

I do not think so.

How long are the shows?

The total experience is a couple of hours. That includes drinks and snacks before the show , a breif intermission and the show.

When do doors open for an 11pm show?

I went to the first show and they let us in about 1/2 hour before show. That was enough time to get everyone seated and provide food and drinks

How early would you recommend coming if we just have general seating?

It honestly depends on the show you're seeing. Some sell out beforehand and some you have no problem getting tickets same night. Just to be safe, I'd do 20-30 minutes before. You can go to the restaurant/lounge and grab a drink, bite to eat or play…

Is the comedy very inappropriate/raunchy? Would it make parents (in their late 50s/early 60s) uncomfortable?

Our current shows in Chicago contain R-rated content. Everyone keeps their clothes on (we're not like 50 Shades of Grey) but content and language is R-rated (think Old School or The Hangover). If you're comfortable attending an R-rated movie with…

Where is a good place to have dinner within walking distance?

Topo Gigio (Italian) is very good but I'd allow time for more relaxed service. The Vig, Woodies…

I like its ornate décor, the stadium style seats set-up which offers good stage view, the acoustics, and the overall aesthetics of this venue which makes it an ideal place to watch live events. On my recent (late June 2026) visit to see The Human League, Soft Cell, and Alison Moyet for the Generations tour, overall, I had a good experience. There were couple of issues that we had such as lack of cool air circulation inside the auditorium (it was hot and sweaty) and a couple of people standing throughout the show to dance, blatantly blocking other peoples' view and not caring about being inconsiderate and uncourteous to people behind them to which the theatre ushers had no problem with it. Otherwise, I have not had issues at this venue. So, 4.5 stars but rounded up to five. I look forward to going back here.

We saw Romeo & Juliet--but what we saw was…read morenot the traditional play but a very modernized, highly sexualized (in the best, funniest, way) performance, based upon the basics of Shakespeare's most well-known tragedy. Let's put it this way--fight scenes were conducted with dild*** instead of swords, the language was VERY blue, with many references of LGBTQ orientation--and we laughed so hard through the WHOLE thing that my face hurt afterward. I could not recommend this experience enough for people with open minds and hearts. The venue is very small and intimate--three rows of benches--so you almost feel like you're part of the performance. If you pay for the top tier ticket, you're in the front row, and may actually BECOME part of the performance in a small way. As for refreshments, you use QR codes on your benches to order beverages delivered directly to you throughout the show, and they offer seasoned nuts or popcorn if you want something to munch on.

We got back 15 minutes before showtime and were almost the last ones seated. It didn't really matter, the venue is quite small and I don't think there is a bad seat in the place. We sat "stage side" which means the front row. (Strongly recommend these seats). Everyone is given a shot (alcohol/not flu) upon entering. Nasty red stuff but it's just setting the stage for what was to come. The actors were in full swing even before showtime. Interacting with the audience, just working the room getting us ready to get loud. It worked! There is no food for sale but a themed drink menu is available. You can order at the bar but they encourage you to use a QR code found on the seat underneath your butt. Everyone was ordering at the same time and the system crashed. I should have taken that as a warning and skipped the drink. By the time I was able to order and the time I waited for my drink, the show was half over. I ordered a "hemoglobin": Evan Williams bourbon, cherry schnapps, black cherry syrup, and lemon juice garnished with a cherry. It was awful. Robitussin comes to mind. In this case, "Pre-gaming" would have been the way to go. The premise - one actor drinks 5 shots of whiskey and proceeds to put on a show. There was definitely some imbibing going on backstage with the other actors. As the show progressed, the laughs from not only the audience but also the actors increased exponentially. There is a lot of audience participation that I'll not ruin for you. Do be warned, if you are easily offended, you probably want to skip this one. the language is pretty raunchy but it was funny. Would we go again? Maybe to see a different show but I doubt it. It's kind of one of those experiences that you need to see once. After that, it's just redundant. (BTW, I don't know if I'm allowed to say this here but look for a Groupon. I'm always up for a deal!)

I'm a hobby magician myself, so I went into the show knowing that sometimes you can recognize the basic principles behind certain effects. But honestly, it doesn't matter. Dennis Watkins is an incredible magician and entertainer, and seeing the show up close is a completely different experience. The show is intimate, funny, entertaining, and incredibly well performed. You're close enough to see everything, which somehow makes it even more impossible. And here's my advice: Don't be the person who spends the entire show trying to figure out how every trick is done. I know you're going to do it anyway. I did too. But at some point, just sit back, enjoy the performance, and let yourself be fooled. That's part of the fun. Even as a hobby magician, I thought it was an amazing show. The combination of magic, storytelling, audience interaction, and Dennis's personality makes for a really memorable Chicago experience. Five stars. Go see it, have a drink, relax, and let the magician do his job. Small bonus out we had the VIP tickets. My wife was very awesome. It's a little intimate setting you get about another 20 to 30 minutes of Magic. Dennis asked for questions you have any doesn't really amazing magic and you get a free drink with a VIP ticket. Three Card Monte was where the audience was seated at three tables and three different close up magicians rotated through. The magic was literally happening in front of your eyes! The variety in the three magicians was great--they had a variety of tricks, varying levels of sarcasm and humor, and overall, made it one of the best Sunday evenings I have had! Your ticket comes with a drink ticket--I don't drink, but they made me a mean Shirley Temple. My daughter bought a 2nd one at intermission and it was very reasonably priced. I made sure to have cash to tip my bartender. With Dennis's solo show, there was an option to pay to be a VIP where we got a taste of close up magic right after the general show. It was very cool and I recommend adding it on. If you love magic or even if you just know someone who loves magic, I recommend! A classy venue with top notch entertainment!

Sharing a letter that I wrote to Broadway in Chicago and the Cadillac Theatre for which I never…read morereceived a response: I am writing to share a concern regarding audience management during performances at your theatre (Cadillac). I attended The Phantom of the Opera last night and unfortunately, the experience was significantly disrupted by a visibly intoxicated family seated nearby. They spoke throughout the performance and, most notably, sang very loudly during the final song--directly over the performer during what is meant to be a pinnacle and emotionally powerful moment of the production. This behavior was disruptive and diminished the experience for many audience members in the surrounding area. This was not an isolated incident. Last year, while attending Moulin Rouge at your theatre, I experienced a similar situation involving two belligerent and intoxicated audience members who talked, sang, danced, and cried audibly through much of Act I and part of Act II before finally being escorted out. I paid $250 for my ticket last night to see one of my favorite musicals, and it is deeply disappointing to have that experience compromised by behavior that should be unacceptable in a professional theatre setting. Audience etiquette is essential to preserving the integrity of live performance, and more proactive intervention would go a long way in protecting both patrons and performers. I want to emphasize that the theatre itself is beautiful, and the productions you host are outstanding. It is precisely because of the quality of your programming that I feel compelled to raise this concern. I strongly encourage you to consider stronger audience management practices to ensure that future performances can be enjoyed as intended.
