A beautiful theater with astonishing architecture and style! The lack of WiFi and cell signal made it impossible to coordinate travel or communicate once indoors, but it also made my attention stay on the performance the entire time.

The Chicago Theater is a beautiful landmark to see a show. The inside is inspired by French architecture with crystal chandelier, several murals and a grand staircase. 5/5 stars for the entry process! Security and bag check moved incredibly fast and were very well-organized. We had seats on the main floor and they were surprisingly roomy, and even from the side, the view of the stage was great. This is a great venue to see a show.

This historic theater is all kinds of awesome! I've seen numerous concerts and comedy shows here and it never disappoints. Love the decor and all the details inside. Seat sizing is tolerable but on the smaller end. Every view is pretty good. They do have numerous bars throughout the venue. Bathroom lines can get pretty long. I usually park in some close by lots since street parking is NOT the easiest around there. Lots of places to eat nearby if you want to grab a snack before or after.

Beautiful theater to be able to see a show in. Great to see the history within in it is preserved. Service from ushers were kind. Prices for drinks and food are pricey as expected.

Cool setup in box seats... always get those when I go and see a comedy show. Overpriced snack food is not my deal... so I'm glad we went to an early show and then go to Chinatown for dinner afterwards. Also didnt have to wait outside super long but it also took forever to get inside. Ugh

Beautiful theatre!!! Very well organized. Lots of bathrooms. I was in the longest line to get to the bathroom during intermission and it moved so quickly. I was impressed. Helpful and friendly staff. Comfy seats and great acoustics. Really fun vibe and beautiful architecture. I enjoyed my experience.

Went here to see one of my favorite comedians that I've followed online, and the experience lived up to the hype. My seat was up close, which made it even better. The theater itself is absolutely gorgeous on the inside -- classic, iconic Chicago vibes. There were a lot of people, but everything felt organized. Staff members were posted at the internal doors helping guide people to their sections, which made things move smoothly. The venue is a really good size -- big enough to feel exciting but still intimate enough to enjoy the performance. My only real complaint is the restrooms, which could definitely be better given how many people were there. Overall, an amazing place to catch a show. I'd absolutely come back when I'm in Chicago so adding to check what's going on there when I'm planning my return trips.

Was my first time seeing a concert at the Chicago Theater. The ambiance is absolutely incredible and the inside of the building is gorgeous. The service was great as far as the ushers are lovely and the bartenders were pleasant. I cannot wait to see another show there!

My family and I spent our annual Christmas Show Outing at the Chicago Theatre this year to see Twas the Night Before- a Cirque du Solei performance! We enjoyed our time! It was our first Cirque show AND our first time at the Chicago Theatre. We had great seats- first row in the upper level. We grabbed some wine and snacks to enjoy during the performance.

Chicago theatre district has bright lights that can't be missed. The iconic Chicago sign lite up at night is awesome. We aren't the only ones here taking photos.

Our daughter surprised us with tickets to see the sold-out show of standup comedian Sheng Wang at the Chicago Theatre last Saturday! My husband and I had no idea who Wang was before the show, but he's really funny and we enjoyed the show! We were seated on the first row of the Loge section, which were considered some of the best seats in the house! We had been to the Chicago Theatre numerous times years ago, and I always picked the Orchestra floor. The most memorable show was probably Donny Osmond's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in 1996! However, my memory of the theatre itself had become quite vague after all these years. This time, I had some time before the show to really soak in the beauty of the Chicago Theatre, which was built in the French Baroque style in the 1920s. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and was listed as a Chicago Landmark in 1983. The architecture of the building is indeed very impressive. The 5-story lobby is truly magnificent! There seemed to be concession and bar stands at every level. Daughter's red wine was over $18, so it was pretty pricey. I have noticed that there were restrooms in the basement and the balcony level as well. The one that I went to in the basement had many stalls and was clean. All the staff that I had encountered were nice and friendly. There was security check at the door with metal detectors. When my daughter and I got in, it was still early and the lines were not bad. However, when my husband arrived after he parked the car, it had become very crowded and lines were long. The theatre has 3600 seats, so, you may want to allow more time especially for a sold-out show.

Yes. There is a coat check.

When we first arrived, upon checking our tickets, our tickets wouldn't scan/verify. The usher was getting frustrated with us for this, and made us go to the ticket booth to get our physical tickets. We showed the person the tickets on our phone, and she printed them out for us -- after several rounds of confusion on her part. She was so soft spoken (in a noisy theatre entrance) that it led to much confusion. After this, we had to "cut" back into the entrance line (the security guard was helpful here) and we got thru the gates, finally. Then this usher/ticket checker who scanned our tickets (the 2nd time) was literally yelling at us on which direction to go (not a yelling as in being loud, but yelling like we were stupid). I go the way he yells at me because he won't stop yelling at me to go the direction he points me in -- which is the wrong direction. We had orchestra seats and were headed there, but this usher/ticket checker was yelling at us to go up the stairs. Fine, maybe I'm wrong. We get upstairs, and the 2nd usher again points us in the wrong direction to go further upstairs. This is again incorrect. We are flustered and confused, and not sure what is going on. We finally reach the 3rd usher at the top of the stairs, and he finally points us in the correct direction. The ushers here (Sans the 3rd one) were incompetent and rude.

Somehow, I learned about a children's production presented through their educational wing. I'm not sure if their education & engagement was this strong in years past or perhaps I simply wasn't dialed into their offerings, but that's definitely changing now. We went to see Splish Splash. This was a 50 minute long story about a blue heron and friends who are seeking to repair the moon after it fell into Lake Michigan. There were songs, there was play, and it was highly interactive. The kids--fellow "sailors", along with three of the cast members--learned a song to sing along at various parts of the show. There were several times when the kids were invited onto the "stage" (it was in one of their lab/classroom spaces, so there wasn't a raised stage) to help or participate. It was so well done, and kept the kids engaged. I really loved how this experience was designed. Upon arrival we were checked in and pointed to one of the classroom spaces. I was surprised because I wasn't sure how actors could be safe there, but it was actually a room for the kids to color and read books or play with toys and stuff before we were taken into the room where the performance took place. I've only seen something that was meant to keep kids busy like that before showtime is at Filament Theatre, and we've gone to kids shows at two or three other theaters by now. It was a great touch. This production was specifically geared toward children aged 0-5, which is atypical and felt so special that it was written with the littlest theatergoers. One of the important pre-show reminders was for adults, reminding us that it's a no-shush zone! I'm so excited that one of the most important theaters in the city, and the oldest non-profit theater still in operation in Chicago, is so committed to developing young audiences in an exciting way and meeting them where they're at. We'll be regulars at their Theatre for the Very Young programs.

I was reminded of the same issues I mentioned in my earlier review, issues that persist after almost a decade. Like many theatres, they make you wait outside (in this case, in the cold), while they get the theatre ready. Maybe they don't want to pay for the workers to be there for too long beforehand? It makes for a crappy experience. You are then funneled inside while security guards bark orders at you, even when all you're doing is trying to find your way inside in a polite manner. Luckily, the guard in our line was nice enough and joked around with the kids. The lobby is tiny, unlike the other major theatres downtown, so that is something to be aware of. There's really zero room to breathe, and the intermission bathroom line snakes up from the basement into the bar line. Luckily, I got there earlier on, but that's a bad experience. The bathrooms aren't that nice, sadly, and they could use extra care. There are a lot of stalls that don't lock, don't have purse hooks attached anymore, etc. Worse yet, the attendants are on a power trip, though they're not quite as mean as others in similar theatres, and the line moves quickly. I just don't appreciate them yelling "up against the wall!" It's a bit much. The orchestra seats were pretty comfortable and even have good sight lines for short people! From what I saw, the snacks weren't as expensive as one might imagine, though not cheap. Frustratingly, there is no public wifi here. What year is it?

I attended The Phantom of the Opera last night and unfortunately, the experience was significantly disrupted by a visibly intoxicated family seated nearby. They spoke throughout the performance and, most notably, sang very loudly during the final song--directly over the performer during what is meant to be a pinnacle and emotionally powerful moment of the production. This behavior was disruptive and diminished the experience for many audience members in the surrounding area. This was not an isolated incident. Last year, while attending Moulin Rouge at your theatre, I experienced a similar situation involving two belligerent and intoxicated audience members who talked, sang, danced, and cried audibly through much of Act I and part of Act II before finally being escorted out. I paid $250 for my ticket last night to see one of my favorite musicals, and it is deeply disappointing to have that experience compromised by behavior that should be unacceptable in a professional theatre setting. Audience etiquette is essential to preserving the integrity of live performance, and more proactive intervention would go a long way in protecting both patrons and performers. I want to emphasize that the theatre itself is beautiful, and the productions you host are outstanding. It is precisely because of the quality of your programming that I feel compelled to raise this concern. I strongly encourage you to consider stronger audience management practices to ensure that future performances can be enjoyed as intended.

My bf had the short rib sandwich and said it was delicious and for me the dip was my saving grace so if you're GF I wouldn't come here expecting a filling meal. Come for wine and dips and a patio vibe.
